September 9, 2022 - The Center Police Dept Ladies Auxiliary is holding a raffle to help support The Center Police Dept K-9 division in obtaining the funds to purchase a new K-9 Unit. K-9 NYX is coming close to retirement age and has been in service since 2015. Currently she has been with the Center Police Dept and Officer Brian Wright since 2019 for the use of Narcotics Detection. With the funds raised The Center Police Dept K-9 Division would be able to purchase a new K-9 Unit, and would be for a Dual-Purpose K-9, Narcotics Detection, Tracking, Patrol Apprehension, and Article Search (guns, money, etc)
Tickets are $20 each, with only 300 tickets being sold. The drawing will be held on November 1st, 2022 with the winner receiving a Ruger American Ranch Rifle, 300 Blackout, along with a Vortex Crossfire II 4-12x40 Dead-Hold BDC Scope, valued at $700

September 8, 2022 - Deep East Texas Electric advises members served by the Hurstown Substation (Highway 87 in Shelby County), there will be an outage in the early hours of Friday, September 9th at approximately 1:45AM. The outage will last for 4 hours or less to allow crews to make substation repairs. A planned outage must occur for your area to safely complete the work.
The Huxley Substation will experience a 5 minute or less outage when the Hurstown Station is dropped and brought back on.
There is no need to report your outage during this time. We appreciate your understanding.
September 8, 2022 - As a mark of respect for the memory of Queen Elizabeth II, President Biden has ordered that the American flag be lowered to half staff until sunset on the day of interment (TBA). All flags flying with the American flag should also be lowered. If you have an outside flag that cannot be lowered, respect can be shown by tying a black ribbon or cord to the top of the flag staff.
Day of interment will be provided when known.
September 8, 2022 - Attorney General Paxton today warned Texans of scammers attempting to use Attorney General Paxton’s name, signature, and the Office of the Attorney General seal to get their personal data.
This email “phishing” scam attempts to scare consumers by claiming they have committed identify theft and are facing prosecution and significant jail time, in an email that purports to be signed by the Attorney General. Recipients are then instructed to call a toll-free number to provide their personal data.
If you or anyone you know receives an email or any other communication like this, please report the suspected fraud to the Texas Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division by calling toll-free 1-800-621-0508, or by filing an online complaint at https://www.texasattorneygeneral.gov/consumer-protection/file-consumer-complaint.
September 8, 2022 - The San Augustine County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of a deceased male that was found just off of U.S. highway 83 near Anthony Harbor in the early morning hours of Sept. 4, 2022.
The preliminary investigation indicates at approximately 1:57 a.m., on Sept. 4, the Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call and learned that a deceased body had been found. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene and identified a deceased male, later identified as 18-year-old Heath McAdams, from Angelina Co.
McAdams was transported from the scene and transported to the Forensic Medical Management of Texas in Tyler for an autopsy.
On Sept. 7, an autopsy was completed and revealed Mr. McAdams sustained injuries consistent with that of being struck by a motor vehicle.
This incident is being actively investigated by the Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Texas Rangers (DPS).
Anyone with any information about this incident, is asked to please call the San Augustine County Sheriff’s Office at (936) 275-2424.
September 7, 2022 - Texas Department of Public Safety State Troopers arrested the driver of a truck involved in a single-vehicle crash on Friday, September 2, 2022.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Dustin Ramos, at 4:15pm Troopers were dispatched to a single-vehicle rollover crash on State Highway 7 (SH 7) East just outside SL 500.
A black 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Antonio Green, 45, of Mansfield was westbound on SH 7 when the truck traveled off the roadway to the right for an unknown reason, and failed to travel in a single lane. The truck then encountered a double culvert which it traveled over before striking a highway sign.
Green over corrected left and traveled back across the roadway where it then overturned and came back to rest upright on its wheels.
No injuries were reports as a result of the crash. Green was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
According to the Shelby County Jail log, Antonio Green was charged with driving while intoxicated.
Trooper Ramos and Trooper Taylor Buster were assisted at the scene by Shelby County Sheriff's Deputy Aaron Jones.
September 7, 2022 - The Timpson Volunteer Fire Department issued their August activity report.
For the current year, the total number of calls is already at 147 and will soon exceed last years numbers. The total call count for 2021 was 151.
For the month of August the TVFD had 20 calls.

September 6, 2022 - State Loop 500 and State Highway 7 East was once again the scene of a major crash which occurred on Saturday, September 3, 2022, involving two pickup trucks.
Both of the vehicles involved were located on the northwest corner of the intersection when emergency personnel began arriving on scene. After San Augustine County EMS arrived to help those involved, Allegiance EMS also arrived at the location.
According to Center Police Officer Michael Davidson, at around 10:15am a black Ford Raptor pickup truck driven by Heath Harper, 44, of Joaquin was westbound on State Highway 7 approaching SL 500.
At that time a silver 2022 Ford Maverick pickup truck driven by Walter Parker, 48, of Campti, Louisiana was northbound, failed to come to a stop and entered the intersection with State Highway 7 failing to yield to cross traffic. This caused the Raptor to strike the Maverick causing damage to both vehicles.
Walter Parker and the 17-year-old were transported by ambulance to Nacogdcoches Medical Center in Nacogdoches for treatment of their injuries.
Mellisa was flown by PHI helicopter to LSU medical facility in Shreveport, La. for treatment of her injuries.

US Flags and other flags flying with it should be lowered to half staff at sunup on Sunday, September 11, 2022 and raised at sundown the same day. It is permissible to lower them the evening before on September 10.
If you have outdoor flags that cannot be lowered, respect for the day can be shown by tying a black cord or ribbon to the top of the mast.
