February 9, 2021 - Stay Highway 7 West was the scene of a single-vehicle crash Tuesday, February 9, 2021.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Dustin Ramos, at 7:30am Troopers and Sheriff's Department Deputies were dispatched to a single-vehicle rollover crash.
Upon arrival just east of FM 711 it was determined a 16-year-old minor driver of Center was eastbound in a blue 4-door F150 when the driver changed lanes to dodge around a trailer. Due to wet road conditions and unsafe speed the driver lost control, spun around and traveled off the roadway to the right. The truck then struck a culvert where the vehicle overturned.
No injuries were reported at the scene resulting from the crash.
The driver was issued a citation for no driver's license and unsafe speed. A parent on scene was cited for allowing an unlicensed driver to drive without a license.
February 8, 2021 - The Texas DSHS Covid-19 Dashboard reported 138 active cases on Monday, February 8, 2021 which is a decrease of 6 over the past two days. Sunday and Monday the state reported 1 new confirmed case and 5 new probable cases. The dashboard also showed 12 new recoveries.

Total Probable Cases - 628 (5 new cases)
Total Fatalities - 49
Total Estimated Active Cases - 138

February 8, 2021 - The Shelby County Sheriff's Department reports Barrett has been located safely and was found in Arkansas.
February 5, 2021 - The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department is seeking the assistance of the public in locating a missing elderly man.
Thurman Barrett, of Joaquin, is described as an 84-year-old white male. He has gray hair, blue eyes, 5’8” and weighs approximately 200 pounds.
Barrett was last seen Thursday, January, 28, 2021 between the hours of 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Williams Landing/Woodland Shores area in Joaquin. He was driving a 1997 Chevrolet extended pickup with Texas plate HVB6036. The pictured vehicle is a stock photo of what Barrett's vehicle looks like. This is not the actual vehicle.
It is requested that if you see Barrett, DO NOT approach him. He may be in possession of a firearm(s).
If you know the whereabouts of Barrett or may have seen him, you are asked to contact the SCSO at (936) 598-5601 and provide the location.
February 6, 2021 - On February 2, 2021, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the Choice public water system, 2100008 to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals, or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
The public water system has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes and has provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of 02/06/2021.

February 2, 2021 - Due to a broken water main the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the Choice water system ID# 2100005 to notify customers that were without water 2/01/2021 on HWY 96 S and all side roads ( anyone without water) to boil their water, prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc). Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions.
To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.
In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, the public water system will issue a notice to customers that rescinds the boil water notice in a manner similar to this notice.
Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

February 6, 2021 - The Cold Case Investigations is a new division to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office that is staffed with one Investigator and is responsible for all cold case investigations. Sheriff Kevin W. Windham emphasizes the great importance of solving these cases which goes to the reason he established this new division.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Division is committed to the pursuit of justice, not just for the victims, but also for the victim’s families who are left behind. Despite the passing of many years, the victims and their untimely deaths have not been forgotten, nor will the families who are left behind looking for answers and the much-needed closure. There is no statute of limitations for homicide in the State of Texas. The motto of the Cold Case Division is: “The pursuit of justice continues.”

Please note that we are in the process of adding the numerous cold cases of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office to the website with information available for release and they will be updated periodically with the latest information. February 6, 2021 - The Center Fire Department has had to fight early morning structure fires over the past two days.
According to the Center Fire Department, they responded to a house fire in the 200 block of CR 3734 early Friday, February 5, 2021.
When the firemen arrived just after 3:24am they discovered the house to be a mobile home and the fire was fully involved. Fire personnel deployed hoses and put down the fire quickly. The interior and exterior of the structure received a great deal of damage and resulted in a total loss.
The cause of the fire was undetermined.
Firemen returned to service at 7:15am.
Center Fire Department Fire personnel responed to another house fire on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the 5000 block of Highway 7 East just after 5:30am.
The house involved was also a mobile home and firemen fought the fire until after 9am.
It resulted in a total loss and a homeowner has not yet come forward.
Cause of the fire was not determined.
Fire personnel returned to service around 9am.
February 6, 2021 - The Texas DSHS Covid-19 Dashboard reported 144 active cases on Saturday, February 6, 2021. Over the past two days, Friday and Saturday, 4 of the new cases were confirmed cases and 7 were new probable cases.

February 5, 2021 - The Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 1432 County Road 3267 at 4:27pm on Friday, February 5th. Desoto Parish Fire District #1 also responded per the department’s automatic mutual aid agreement.
First arriving units found a wood veneer A-frame home fully involved. Due to heavy fire conditions, firefighters deployed an exterior attack. A quick knockdown of the fire was accomplished, and firefighters remained on the scene performing salvage and overhaul operations until 7:15pm.
The home was a total loss, however, firefighters were able to salvage some important personal items for the homeowner. There was no one home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
February 4, 2021 - The Texas DSHS Covid-19 Dashboard reported 150 active cases on Thursday, February 4, 2021. Of the new cases 4 are new confirmed cases and 10 are new probable cases.
