May 5, 2019 - Tenaha Street was the scene of a three-vehicle collision which sent two men invlolved to the emergency room Thursday, May 2, 2019.
According to Center Police Officer Robert Lee, at 7:40am a blue 2001 Ford Ranger driven by Young Jackson, 65, of Center was attempting to travel from Childs Street across Tenaha Street to Foster Street.
Jackson failed to yield right of way to a red 2003 Ford Focus driven by Antonio Yarbrough, 36, of Center which was southbound on Tenaha Street. The Focus struck the passenger side of the Ranger and caused the truck to spin into another vehicle.
The other vehicle was a silver 2018 Nissan Armada driven by Anacari Gutierrez, 29, of Center which was sitting at the Foster and Tenaha Streets intersection.
Jackson and Yarbrough were transported by ambulance to Nacogdoches Medical Center - Shelby Emergency Department for treatment of possible injuries.
Yarbrough was issued citations for no driver's license and unsafe speed. Jackson was issued citations for driving while license invalide and failure to yield right of way.
The Ranger and the Focus were towed from the location, and the Armada was able to be drive away.
The Center Police Officers were assisted at the scene by officers of the Texas Department of Public Safety and Shelby County Sheriff's Department.
Center Fire Department Firemen were dispatched to the scene to extricate one driver from his vehicle; however, and extrication turned out to not be necessary.
May 5, 2019 - Tyson Foods, Inc., a Rogers, Ark. establishment, is recalling approximately 11,829,517 million pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat chicken strip products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically pieces of metal, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.
The frozen, ready-to-eat chicken strip items were produced on various dates from Oct. 1, 2018 through March 8, 2019 and have “Use By Dates” of Oct. 1, 2019 through March 7, 2020. The chart contains a list of the products subject to recall.[View Labels (PDF only)]
The products subject to recall bear establishment number “P-7221” on the back of the product package. These items were shipped to retail and Department of Defense locations nationwide, for institutional use nationwide and to the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The problem was discovered when FSIS received two consumer complaints of extraneous material in the chicken strip products. FSIS is now aware of six complaints during this time frame involving similar pieces of metal with three alleging oral injury.
Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.

May 4, 2019 - Timpson Independent School District Trustee election May 4, 2019.
The results of the Timpson ISD Board of Trustees election have been announced for the two available positions. According to the results, Justin Timmons with a total of 132 votes and Cody Beckham with 121 votes have been elected to the two seats.

May 4, 2019 - City of TImpson General Election May 4, 2019 results.
The City of Timpson election results are in and as a result the incumbents running maintain their seat on the council. Those council members are Tiffany Collins with 86 total votes; Charleston Johnson with 73 total votes; and Kyle Allen with 56 total votes.

May 4, 2019 - Results from the Joaquin ISD School Board Trustee election held May 4, 2019.
According to the final results, Jeff Hamilton with a total of 168 votes and Jeff Cater with a total of 156 votes have won the two available positions on the Joaquin ISD School Board.

May 4, 2019 - Bill Baker won the City of Joaquin mayor race with 55 votes after votes were tallied Saturday, May 4, 2019. His opponent was Patricia Gray who received 29 votes.
May 3, 2019 - State Highway 7 East was the scene of a two-vehicle crash incident in the Lone Cedar area which caused major damage to one vehicle and caused extended traffic delays.
The Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department was on scene diverting traffic around the crash location and helped prevent further incidents.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Keith Jones, at 6:05pm a a green 2003 Ford Focus wagon driven by Linda Ann Blount, 67, of Center was eastbound on State Highway 7 when she slowed to let other motorists pass as she was preparing to turn left into a private driveway.
Roderick Dwayne Walker, 42, of Mansfiield, LA driving a white 2018 Dodge 2500 owned by KLX Energy Service hauling a flat bed trailer was passing as other vehicles had done before him in the westbound lane, and the Ford turned left into the trailor.
Both the Ford and the trailer received damage from the collision; however, no one recived any injury. Blount received a citation for turn when unsafe.
May 3, 2019 - The Center area was recently struck by a string of burglaries mostly of businesses and finally of a residence during April.
Two individuals were arrested in connection with the first two burglaries; however, they appear to have since absconded.
Lead investigator on the burglary cases, Detective Bobby Walker, responded to the La Mexicana Grocery store at sometime around the beginning of April where the two suspects allegedly broke into the grocery store through a vent in the roof of the building.
Several items were taken from the store including grocery items, a cash register, cash and some coin rolls. Two days later, Pineywoods Seafood was also broken into allegedly by the same suspects through the back door of the business and several coin rolls and cash were taken from there.
During the investigation of the two crimes, Detective Walker and his partner noted a motel located between both crime scenes. Once the officers made contact with the motel manager, two individuals staying there matched the suspects they were seeking. One peculiar thing the manager mentioned was the guests paid for their room with dollar bills.
Once the officers made contact with the men, they took them to the Center Police Department for questioning. According to Detective Walker one suspect, Hai Chrit, 21, of Center made a full confession to the burglaries; however, Dah Gay, 21, of Smyrna, TN, asked for a lawyer.
Two arrest warrants each were issued on Chrit and Gay for burglary of a building, felony 4. According to Shelby County Jail records, they also were initially arraigned by Tracy Broadway, Justice of the Peace Precinct 5, and had $10,000 bonds placed on each charge. The bonds were later replaced with personal recognizance bonds by the 123rd Judicial District Judge and were released on April 12, 2019.
Darrell's BBQ was broken into on April 21, 2019, and the primary suspects are Chrit and Gay as the burglary appeared to have been handled in the same manner. Most recently on April 23, 2019, Chrit and Gay were allegedly caught on video where a home was broken into on Henrietta Street. Two more warrants were acquired for the arrest of Gay and Chrit; however, they weren't able to be located.
However, Chrit and Gay were pulled over on May 2, 2019, in a reported stolen vehicle by a Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop A officer. Gay was arrested and held in the Lafayette County Jail on a charge of vehicle theft, felony 1, until he was released later that same day.
Chrit and Gay are still wanted on warrants out of the Center Police Department for burglary.
May 2, 2019 - (Update 10:22pm): Significant Weather Advisory for Western De Soto and Southwestern Caddo Parishes, Northeastern Panola and Northeastern Shelby Counties until 11pm CDT.
At 10:04pm CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Joaquin to near Beckville. Movement was northeast at 45 mph.
Half inch hail and winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with these storms.
The National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Southwestern Panola County in northeastern Texas, Southeastern Rusk County in northeastern Texas, North central Nacogdoches County in eastern Texas, Northwestern Shelby County in eastern Texas until 10:15pm CDT.
At 9:22pm CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Garrison, or 19 miles northeast of Nacogdoches, moving northeast at 45 mph.
Hazard: 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.
Source: Radar indicated.
Impact: Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
Locations impacted include Center, Tenaha, Timpson, Garrison, Gary City, James, Dotson, Stockman, Woods, Lawsonville and Paxton.

May 2, 2019 - The water on San Augustine Rural WSC no longer requires boiling.
On April 25, 2019, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the San Augustine Rural Public Water System, #2030007, to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
San Augustine Rural Water has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes and has provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of May 2, 2019.
