February 2, 2018 - State Highway 7 West was the scene of a one-vehicle crash Thursday, February 1, 2018 just under one mile from the San Augustine County line.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Jesse Fountain, at 2:10 DPS Troopers were dispatched to the crash just east of the Shelby County line. A grey 2011 Hyundai Sonata driven by Mustafa Hashi Yussef, 41, of Center had been traveling eastbound when the crash occurred.

A witness traveling in a vehicle behind the Hyundai indicated Yussef veered to the left and swerved to the right when it appeared he might hit another vehicle. That's when the Hyundai failed to maintain a single lane and left the roadway to the right. The Hyundai didn't come to a stop until it crashed into a wood line.

Yusseff was transported by ACE EMS to Nacogdoches Medical Center - Shelby Emergency Department for treatment and observation.

He was issued a citation for failure to drive in a single lane. Trooper Fountain was assisted at the scene by Troopers Taylor Buster and Jonathan Stinson.

The vehicle was towed from the scene by Hughes Wrecker Service.

February 2, 2018 - Center Police Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Tenaha Street Thursday, February 1, 2018 at just after 6pm in front of the EZ Mart gas station.

When officers arrived a white Ford Fusion passenger car was sitting in the inside southbound traffic lane with a black pickup truck behind it that appeared to have struck the rear of the Ford.

Officers had the driver of the pickup truck move the truck to the gas station parking lot. The Fusion remained in the middle of the road until ACE EMS personnel were able to extricate the driver to an ambulance.

Once they were clear of the vehicle, it was moved from the roadway. A minor male riding in the Fusion appeared to be unharmed, and left the scene in a private vehicle with a family member.

At this time, no further information is available until it's released by officers investigating the crash.

January 30, 2018 - Sgt. Christopher Knowlton, with his K9 “Elliott,” was patrolling the Florence Street area when he observed a known male subject. Upon running the subject’s name it was discovered that the subject (not named in this press release) was wanted, out of the Center Municipal Court.

Randal Lamar RushingAfter turning back to the suspect’s residence, the wanted individual was no longer on the porch, at that point officers observed multiple subjects in a vehicle behind the residence. Once contact was made with the vehicle, officers observed what appeared to be an active drug transaction occurring inside of the vehicle.

Trumaine Willis BazileK9 Elliott was subsequently deployed with a positive alert on the suspect vehicle. Officers recovered from the vehicle approximately 9.5 grams of “crack” cocaine and 0.55 ounces of marijuana. Arrested on scene were Randal Lamar Rushing, 31, of Center; Trumaine Willis Bazile, 31, of Center; and Donald Wayne Moss Jr., 26, of Center.

Donald Wayne Moss Jr.It is important to note that Mr. Rushing is currently out on bond for multiple drug related offenses and that Mr. Bazile is currently out on parole for drug related offenses.

January 30, 2018 - Center Police Officers were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash Sunday, January 28, 2017 on Hurst Street in Center at 12:30am.

Once on scene, assistance from additional law enforcement officers was requested. It appeared a red Dodge Ram pickup truck had been traveling southbound on Hurst Street when, for an unknown reason, the truck traveled to the right and struck a utility pole at the intersection of Sanders Street.

After hitting the utility pole, the truck continued into the R&D Distributing fuel station where it struck a fuel pump and came to a stop. The utility pole, which previously had been struck, was snapped in two and partially hung across the roadway. In addition, apparently live power lines, dangled across the remainder of the road and limited the transition of such traffic as large truck-tractors.

Units with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies and Jamie Hagler, Constable Precinct 2, quickly responded to assist the CPD officers.

Center Police Officer Angela Neal interviewed the driver at the scene.

According to the Center Police Department jail log James Hicks, 48, of Center was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.

Police Officers were directing traffic until 4:14am.
