October 17, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Thursday, October 17.
The temperature gauge on my shed this morning read 39 degrees! Autumn has arrived. I love the "seams" of the seasons - those few days, four times each year, when nature tells us that a change has come. There's that moment in May when you can suddenly smell summer, that week in March when the world turns from black and white into color, that first winter frost.
It's moments like these that bring our focus back to natural things, back to nature. Weather talk is something that connects us, and many times it's negative - the heat, the drought, the freeze, the hurricane. But today, all around town, folks will be talking about the crisp feeling of fall. And they'll have a new lightness in their step, a new energy behind their eyes.
Moments like these, the seams of the seasons, also turn our hearts to our Creator. I'm reminded, this morning, of this old hymn -
All things bright and beautiful
All creatures great and small
All things wise and wonderful
The Lord God made them all
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
