January 15, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, January 15.
Lately I’ve been reading a lot from the Bible books called the Minor Prophets. So, who were these twelve men? And why do we call them “minor”? And what truths do their writings have for our lives today?
Well, to begin, they’re referred to as the minor prophets not because of a lesser level of importance, but because of a lesser level of length. The four major prophets - Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel - make up 167 chapters in the Word, the minor prophets only 67. And, generally we know much more about men like Isaiah, than we do about men like Habakkuk. But within the pages of the minor prophets, we find major words of truth.
Here’s a memorable verse from each one of them.
Hosea - Return to the Lord your God, for you have stumbled because of your sin.
Joel - Your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.
Amos - Let justice roll down like water, and righteousness like a mighty stream.
Obadiah - Those who have been saved shall go up to Mount Zion.
Jonah - You are a gracious God, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love.
Micah - What does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
Nahum - The Lord is slow to anger, but great in power.
Habakkuk - I will stand at my watch tower, and station myself on the rampart; I will keep watch to see what God will say to me.
Zephaniah - The Lord your God is with you . . . He will rejoice over you with singing.
Haggai - I will fill this house with splendor, says the Lord.
Zechariah - When I called, they would not hear, says the Lord. So, when they called, I would not hear.
Malachi - Bring all your tithes into the storehouse, says the Lord. See if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven, and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.
Amen!
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
