Rams Take 4-2 Run Baseball Road Loss to Bobcats

The Joaquin Rams varsity baseball team suffered a 4-2 run loss on the road to the Gary Bobcats on Friday. The game was close until the later stages and now Joaquin holds an 8-6 season record and their District 23 2A mark now stands at 1-3.

Gary scored first when T. Grubbs singled to leftfield with one out in the bottom of the first inning. He later scored on a wild throw. Joaquin tied the game in the top of the second inning when Duncan McCann tripled to right-centerfield and scored on a fielder’s choice to tie the game at 1-1.

Joaquin went up 2-1 in the top of the third inning when Jake Neal doubled to leftfield and Karson Rogers singled. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Ben Stephens drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a Joaquin throwing error to tie the game at 2-2.

Gary added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to gain a 4-2 lead and eventually earn the win.

Brennan Kilpatrick pitched six innings for the Rams. He struck out six, walked four and gave up just three hits. Joaquin committed five errors.

Landon Sipes pitched six innings for Gary and struck out three, walked one, and gave up six hits. The Bobcats committed three errors. Kohl Woodfin came in to pitch the seventh inning and hit two batters early but regrouped to earn the save.

The Rams will travel to Timpson on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 for a 6 p.m. game at Bears Ballpark. The Bears took a 12-0 run loss at Garrison on Friday and they now stand at 8-2 overall and 1-2 in District 23 2A.
