David’s Daily Devotion for Sept. 4

September 4, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, September 4.

Are you a student of presidential history? It’s a fascinating area of study. Did you know that there were three presidents who, after their term had ended, took another job in government? Andrew Johnson became a senator. John Quincy Adams spent almost 20 years as a congressman from Massachusetts. And William Howard Taft became the chief justice of the Supreme Court. Imagine holding the highest office in both the executive and judicial branches of government. Amazing!

Taft had time for a second career, leaving office at the age of 55.  We’ve seen several like that in fairly recent history. Bill Clinton was just 54, Obama 55. And Jimmy Carter, who left the White House at 56, lived almost as long as a former president as he did before he rose to that lofty position. But every president, no matter their age, faces the big question - “What’s Next?”

That’s a question we all face at some point - or many points - in our lives. It may involve a career change or a relationship change or a lifestyle change.  Which way do we go? What choice do we make? Do we turn to the left or to the right? Finding ourselves at a crossroad can be a scary situation and it’s natural to be unsure of the path we should take. If you’re a student of the Bible, you know that there are countless Bible characters who found themselves in life changing moments. And if you’re a student of the Word, you know these words.

Psalm 32:8 - I will instruct you and teach you in the way that you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye upon you.

Proverbs 3:5 - Regardless of which path we choose, trust in the Lord, and He will direct our steps.

Psalm 119:105 - Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, a light unto my path.

Meet you back here tomorrow,

David
