Timpson Drops Football Homestand to Hooks by 34-28 score

The Timpson Bears varsity football team fell to the visiting Hooks Hornets by a 34-28 score on Friday. The game was the Bears final non-district contest and sets the THS season mark at 2 wins and 3 losses.

Hooks was able to score first when senior running back Cason May scored on a 5-yard touchdown run at the 8:04 mark of the first quarter. The Hornets extra point kick attempt sailed wide and the Hornets led 6-0.

The Bears bounced back with a 57-yard 3-play scoring drive which saw junior running back Jeffrey Richardson break free for a 49-yard touchdown run at the 6:22 mark of the first period. An extra point kick by junior Alexis Castillo gave the Bears a narrow 7-6 point lead.

Hooks senior quarterback Ripken Birdwell hit senior wideout Preston Nickolson for a 40-yard touchdown strike and Jasper Crain kicked an extra point to give HHS a 13-7 lead with 1:35 left in the first stanza.

The Bears next drive saw Richardson break free for a 51-yard run which gave Timpson the ball in the redzone to begin the second quarter. With 9:31 left in the second quarter Richardson scored on a 3-yard run. Another Castillo conversion kick gave THS a narrow 14-13 lead.

Hooks went on a 75-yard scoring drive which saw Birdwell hit Nickleson for a touchdown reception which gave the Hornets a 20-14 lead with 7:39 left before halftime.

Birdwell scored on a 3-yard run with 9:14 left in the third quarter and HHS extended their lead to 27-14. With 2:19 left in the third frame Birdwell found Jay Smith for a 20-yard touchdown reception which helped extend the Hornet’s lead to 34-21.

Timpson fought back with a scoring drive which Richardson ended with a 33-yard touchdown run at the 6:33 mark of the fourth quarter. Another Castillo extra point kick cut the Hornet’s lead to 34-28.

The Hornets and the Bears next offensive drives stalled and Hooks was able to stall the remaining time off the clock to end the contest.

The Bears will next travel to Hemphill’s Hornets Stadium on Friday, October 10, 2025 for a 7:30 p.m. game. Hemphill is 1-4 this season and had a bye week on Friday.
