April 7, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, April 7.
How many Bibles do you own? Do you have a favorite? Which one was the most expensive? Which one do you read the most? Or perhaps you only read the Word online. If so, you’re in good company. In the last ten years the Bible app business has exploded. The popular site “YouVersion” recently celebrated its one billionth download!
But, in the midst of the electronic scripture boom, there is another, quite surprising development - Bible sales have grown steadily in each of the last five years. A new record was set in 2025, when over 19 million were sold in the United States, the most in 20 years. And within that growth, there is particular increase in the sale of high-end, high priced Bibles.
Most Bibles cost 20-50 dollars. And, of course, many Bibles are given away for free. The Gideon organization distributed over 70 million last year. But there is growing interest in what are called “heirloom” editions. These Bibles are handcrafted and boast fine paper milled in France and calfskin leather from Italy. They feature decorative calligraphy and beautiful illustrations. And they retail for up to 500 dollars.
But, whether you read the Word from a little Gideon New Testament, or a high priced heirloom edition, or from an online site - the most important thing is that you do read the Word. And whatever your Bible may have cost, Psalm 19 assures us that it is . . . “more precious than gold”.
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
