May 13, 2026 - Newly elected Timpson public officials were sworn in during the Tuesday, May 12, 2026, meeting of the Timpson City Council.
Marilyn Corder, Timpson Municipal Court Judge, directed the statements of officers and administered oaths of office to those officials newly elected. Included were Cedric Grace, mayor; Penny Ramsey, council member; and Bert Coan, council member.

The meeting was initially opened by Debra Pate Smith, outgoing mayor, to complete some remaining items on the agenda before she left office.
SoSo Park and other areas in Timpson are still in need of storm cleanup, and the council had several bids to consider; however, as it appeared that item had multiple variables to address, Smith suggested the council table the discussion until next month. The council agreed with all in favor upon a vote on the subject.

Larry Burns, is resigning/retiring from his position as Public Works Director in Timpson after being with the city for 32 years. The council accepted the resignation and retirement of Larry Burns, City Public Works Supervisor, who Smith stated has been with the city for 32 years. Burns’ resignation will be effective June 30, 2026, and the council agreed for him to receive any paid time off balance due and leave in good standing. Misty Burgess, City Secretary, was directed to post and accept applications for the Public Works open position.
As former mayor Smith and former councilwoman Terry Alexander prepared to depart the council meeting, Smith stated, “Thank you for allowing me to serve the city for the last 16 years, it’s been fun,” said Smith.
