June 8, 2026 - In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on June 14, 1777. The United States Army also celebrates their 251st birthday on this date.
In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day. In August 1946, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress but is not an official federal holiday.
Shelby County Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8904 will celebrate Flag Day with the patrons of the Senior Nutrition Center, Loop 500 in Center on Friday, June 12, 2026 at 11:15am. The US Flag that has flown at the Nutrition Center for the past year will be replaced. Following the program, you are invited to stay for lunch.
