July 16, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, July 16.
At noon today, July will be exactly halfway over. So, I guess that means that summer will be halfway through as well. In reality, though, for a lot of folks, it’s much closer to being done than that. In our area, just like in most places, school bells will start ringing in less than a month, and that means that teachers only have a couple of weeks left in their vacation. Some of you may have fond memories of true three-month summers when you were a school boy or a school girl. Summers that ended with a long, leisurely August, following which, on Labor Day weekend, you’d shop for school clothes. I was in Walmart yesterday and the shelves were already bulging with school supplies.
So, summers aren’t what they used to be. But then again, what is? Seasons seem to rush by. Time flies. We hurriedly squeeze trips and events into an ever-shrinking calendar. And it becomes more and more challenging to follow the command that we’re given in Psalm 46:10 - “Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46 was written during a time of great stress in Israel, when it was under siege by its enemies. And it begins with this comforting promise - “God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.”
This little psalm of encouragement contains one more famous phrase. And so we join with the psalm writer this morning and say... “therefore we will not fear!”
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
