August 14, 2026 - Below is a description of the work planned for August 17 through August 21 in the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Lufkin District.
Project timelines are subject to change due to weather conditions and material availability.
TxDOT's Labor Day impaired driving campaign is underway. Statewide during Labor Day Weekend last year, a person was killed by an impaired driver every three hours. Remember: Drive Sober. No Regrets.
Area Office Projects:
Nacogdoches Area Office (Nacogdoches, San Augustine, and Shelby counties)
Nacogdoches County
- US 59, intersection improvements at SL 224.
Work on bridge deck will continue. - BU 59, SH/BS 7, SH/BS 21 and FM 2259 striping
The contractor will work on manhole covers and perform work on SH 21.
Sabine County
- US 96, road rehabilitation.
Prime coating is curing and leveling work requiring lane closures is planned for Aug. 19. .
Lufkin Area Office (Angelina, Houston, and Sabine counties)
Angelina County
- US 59, Redland Project.
Bridge work will occur during the day while paving will take place at night. - Business (BU) 59/First Street, resurfacing and striping.
Striping, line and symbol painting will occur. This will be a mobile operation and drivers should stay alert. - FM 324, bridge replacement and roadway rehabilitation.
Dirt work near the abutments will occur, and the contractor will drill shafts for the bridge. A lane closure will be in place. - US 69, cable median barrier.
Work on the barrier will occur on US 69 south of Zavalla and south of Livingston on US 59. Lanes closures will be in place for worker safety. - State Loop (SL) 287, auxiliary and turn lanes.
Hot mix will be applied, requiring lane closures on the eastbound main lane. The Feagin Drive ramp will remain closed as work continues.
Houston County
- SL 304 overlay.
Slope and shoulder work will continue, requiring intermittent lane closures. Traffic will need to follow a pilot car near the Union Pacific Railroad Bridge where concrete work will take place. - FM 2076, rehabilitation and roadway widening.
Contractors will pulverize the road, bring in flex base and treat cement on the next section of the project. Daily lane closures will occur. A pilot car and flaggers will direct traffic.
Livingston Area Office (Polk, San Jacinto, and Trinity counties)
Polk and San Jacinto counties
- US 59, cable median barrier.
Leveling and repair work will continue.
Polk County
- US 59, Corrigan Relief Route.
Workers will tie steel and prepare to pour more bridge deck for the US 287 main-lane bridge, and a section of the north railroad bridge. Bridge railings will be installed. Prime coat will be applied to the south tie-in main lanes. Work on the subgrade will take place near the US 287 eastbound lane. Shoulder work and culvert installation is planned at the north tie in and turnaround area. Concrete cutting will occur at various bridge-deck locations. Shafts will be drilled for signage and lighting structures. - US/BU 59, Diboll and norther Polk County mill and inlay
Contractors will begin removing asphalt and concrete to repair cracks. This project includes two locations. In Diboll, work will occur between FM 2497 and White Oak Creek. Work will also occur from the Polk/Angelina County line south to just north of Piney Creek. - County-road bridge projects.
o Piney Creek on Carmona Road: excavation work is planned.
o Long King Creek on Old Bearing Road: crews will work on bridge-rail forms.
o Piney Creek on Nine Bridges Road: bridge railing will be installed.
San Jacinto County
- US 59, Shepherd to Cleveland upgrade to interstate standards.
Crews will install bracing and overhangs at the main-lane U-turn bridge and excavate riprap. Work on the Tarkington Bayou and other bridges will occur and rebar forms will be assembled. - SH 156, Stephen Creek bridge replacement.
Crews will demolish temporary construction forms and excavate areas for bridge and support-column foundations. - SH 150 sidewalk project.
Riprap will be installed and concrete will be poured.
Reminder to Motorists
Drivers are urged to remain alert in work zones, obey posted traffic controls, and watch for construction crews and equipment. Remember to move over or slow down to 20 mph below the posted speed limit when passing or approaching TxDOT vehicles, law enforcement, and other vehicles with activated overhead lights on the side of the road.
