Brenda Powell, 81, of Hallsville, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026, in Longview, Texas, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on May 25, 1945, in Shelby County, Texas, to the late Delbert Joel Koonce and Betty Jane (Sayers) Koonce.
Graveside service will be held at 10am on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Ramah Cemetery with Bro. Daniel Baldwin and Bro. Stuart Lowe officiating.
Brenda graduated from Tenaha High School with the Class of 1964. She continued her education at Panola College, where she earned her cosmetology degree. Brenda spent many years doing what she loved—cutting and styling hair. Through her years as a cosmetologist, she made many lasting friendships and touched the lives of countless people.
Brenda had a deep love for the Lord and was a wonderful example of faith, kindness, and love to those around her. She was a member of First Baptist Church Hallsville and cherished opportunities to worship and fellowship with others. She especially enjoyed attending gospel singings, with the Calvary Boys holding a special place in her heart. She was a proud and devoted supporter of the Calvary Boys.
Above all, Brenda treasured her family. She enjoyed cooking and making memories with her children and grandchildren. She deeply loved her sister, and the two shared a special bond. Brenda especially enjoyed the many outings and precious times they shared together before her illness.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Holiday/AVIR Nursing Home for the love, kindness, and exceptional care they gave Brenda during her time there. Brenda loved them dearly, and it was evident that they truly loved Brenda in return. Their compassion and care brought comfort to Brenda and her family and will always be remembered with gratitude.
Brenda leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, family, friendship, and love. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. Her loving spirit, gentle heart, and unwavering faith will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Delbert and Betty Koonce; son-in-law, Ronald Samford; niece, Makon Simpson; and great-grandson, Bentley Samford.
