Mary Helen Boles Campbell, age 90, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026, in Houston, Texas.
Due to possible inclement weather a graveside service will be held at 11:30AM on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel.
Mary Helen was born in the Clever Creek Community near Center, Texas, to Aaron Stephenson Boles and Mary Ann Barbee Boles. She graduated from Center High School, where during her senior year of high school, she was honored as the first Queen of the Shelby County Broiler Grower’s 1953. After graduation, she attended business school in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Mary Helen married the love of her life, James Neil Campbell, and began their journey together while he was stationed with the United States Marine Corps in Pensacola, Florida. Their marriage spanned fifty-one devoted years, filled with love, family, and shared memories.
The couple made their home in Orange, Texas, where Mary Helen enjoyed a successful career at DuPont's Sabine River Works, dedicating more than 35 years of faithful service. Following her illness in 2018, she moved to Houston to be closer to family.
Mary Helen found immense joy in tending her gardens, keeping her daily journal, and preparing meals. She was an exceptional cook where the kitchen was a gathering place for family and friends. Above all, she treasured her roles as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by:
Daughter, Renée Colyer and husband Alan Colyer
Granddaughter, Alexandra Brock and husband Dustin Brock, and their children, Brigid, Maverick, and Colyer
Grandson, Campbell Colyer and wife Brittni Colyer, and their daughter, Quinn
Sister-in-law, Marjorie Doggett
Numerous beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Mary Helen was preceded in death by her husband, James Neil Campbell; her parents, Aaron Stephenson Boles and Mary Ann Barbee Boles; her brother, Waylon Boles and his wife, Thelma Boles; her twin brother, Weldon Boles and the mother of his children, Jimmie Boles; and brother-in-law, Trever Doggett.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Eagles Trace and Three Oaks Hospice for the exceptional care and kindness shown to Mary Helen during her time there. They also offer their sincere appreciation to Casandra Collette for her devoted friendship, support, and loving care.
