Donald Eugene Burkhalter, 72, of Texas, passed away on September 9, 2026, in the Woodlands, Texas. He was born on June 25, 1954, in Center, Texas, to Travis Franklin Burkhalter and Dora Mae Halsted Burkhalter.
Funeral service will be held at 2PM on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Mangum Funeral Home with Mike Fredrick officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 1PM at Mangum Funeral Home. Interment will follow as Asbury Chapel Cemetery.
Donald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He spent much of his life in Center and Houston, Texas, and dedicated approximately 30 years of his career to serving others as a peace officer with Shelby County, Texas, and Harris County, Texas.
Those who knew Donald will remember him for his incredible sense of humor and his gift for making people laugh. He could make almost anything funny and had a way of bringing laughter and lightness wherever he went. Beneath that humor was a quiet strength that defined him. Donald was one of the toughest men his family knew-not only because of his strength, but because of the strength of his character, his loyalty, and his unwavering love for the people around him.
Donald loved his family deeply and was fiercely loyal to them. He was generous, loving, and dependable-a good husband and a good dad. His family knew they could count on him, and he had a way of making the people he loved feel protected and cared for.
Music was another constant throughout Donald's life. He played both bass guitar and guitar throughout his life, sharing his love of music with friends and family. In his younger years, he and a close friend were known as the "home run kings," a memory that reflected Donald's competitive spirit and his ability to enjoy life and have fun.
Donald also loved coin collecting and diskjockeying, two of the many interests that kept him curious and engaged throughout his life.
Above all, Donald was a Christian, and his faith was an important part of who he was. His life was marked by service, loyalty, humor, strength, and a deep love for his family.
