Norma Kay Ermel, 78, of Shelbyville, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026, in Center, Texas. She was born on November 17, 1947, in Converse, Louisiana, to the late Buron Lee Lum and Hazel Eloise (English) Harper.
Funeral service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Mangum Funeral Home, with Bro. Amador Santos and Bro. Rusty Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Union Springs Cemetery, 1032 LA-191, Converse, Louisiana 71419. Visitation will begin prior to the service at 10AM at Mangum Funeral Home.
Norma grew up in the Hunter Community and attended Stanley High School. She met the love of her life, Philip Roger Ermel, and the two were married on October 6, 1986. Norma loved her husband dearly, and those who knew them would agree that there could not have been a more perfect match. Together, they shared a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, family, and many cherished memories.
Norma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life and had many talents and interests. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, gardening, caring for her flowers and chickens, painting, and dancing. Above all, Norma cherished the time she spent with her family and treasured the memories made with those she loved.
Her loving presence, gentle spirit, and devotion to her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Roger Ermel; son, Steve Harper; daughter, Veleda Ermel; son-in-law, Zac Bryant; parents, Buron Lee Lum and Hazel Eloise (English) Harper; and brother-in-law, Jim Worthington.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family and friends.
Pallbearers serving will be Steven Dawson, Colbe Bryant, Jesse Bryant, Casey Lum, Brackston Hildebrand, and Scotty Liles.
Food can be dropped off at Smyrna Baptist Chuch on Saturday. The family will be provided a meal after the services.
