Louis Dupre, 56, of Logansport, Louisiana, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2025, in Logansport, Louisiana.
A private family visitation will be held followed by cremation.
Louis was born February 2, 1968, in Houston, to Ben Dupre and Sandra Lymn Dupre. Louis had a quiet, gentle soul with a loud opinion. As long as could be remembered, he loved fishing, quiet time in his shop, doing odd jobs, and hanging out with friends. He was a good son, friend, and companion through the years. As a brother, he always had a kind, sweet, caring, unconditional love. He will be missed always!

Funeral services for Mr. Johnny Metcalf, 58, of Deadwood, Texas will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 12, 2025 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis Landtroop and Rev. Steven Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the Deadwood Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Saturday night at Hawthorn Funeral Home.
Mr. Johnny E. Metcalf was born December 21, 1966 in Center, Texas. He passed this life January 9, 2025 surrounded by his loving family at his Deadwood home. Johnny was born to the marriage of Doris Thompson and Melvin Metcalf. He was raised and schooled in Center but convinced his kids he went to P.T.U. Possum Trot University. Johnny married his love, Carolyn Renee LaGrone and they celebrated 19 years and 10 months together.
Johnny spent most of his career in the Oil Field working for S.H.B. and Scruggs, Inc. He was a member of the Sanctuary of Pentecost. He loved the outdoors and hunting, but fishing was a love/hate relationship. He was proudest of his five kids, “We done a pretty good job on’em didn’t we!” but what he fought the hardest for, was the light of his life, his nine grandkids. He is preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Billy Ray Thompson, Sr.

Michael David Mills, 77 of Martinsville, entered into his much-anticipated Heavenly home on January 6, 2025 at home surrounded by his family. Mike was an only child born to Milton “Erette” Mills and Dorothy Layton Mills in Nacogdoches on September 4, 1947.
Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at Spring Hill Baptist Church with Bro. Don Chumley and Larry Poe officiating. Interment will follow at Martinsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4pm to 6pm on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Laird Funeral Home.
Mike attended Martinsville school grades 1-10 then transferred to Nacogdoches High School graduating in 1965. He married his childhood sweetheart on June 25, 1966. They celebrated their 58th year of marriage last June.
Mike was a faithful member of Spring Hill Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon. He worked at TP&L, Nibco and Lone Star Feed. During that time, he took 1 semester of forestry at SFA. Around 1972 he began marking timber for LA Pacific then for Champion International, later Georgia Pacific, where he became logging superintendent. In 1980 he, Marilyn and Stacy moved into their new home at Rogers Harbor on Toledo Bend. At this time Georgia Pacific closed their mill in Logansport offering him a job in Crossett, Arkansas. He refused to go. He started guiding at Huxley Bay Marina part time and working as a sales representative for HC Hubbard Co. selling sporting goods. He later helped form a lure company selling fishing baits while still guiding at the marina.
Mike always saw a glass as half full. He wasn’t afraid to jump headfirst into something he believed in, thus starting up a rep group - Southwest Outdoor Sales. He had several good reps working for him and sold optics, hunting supplies, etc. in 4 states – Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. During this time, he was honored to have earned top salesman of the year for Swarovski Optics. After a couple years he closed that rep group and formed Southwest Tackle Sales, selling fishing tackle, mainly Shimano. His group earned the title of top sales for the 4-state region several times. He was fortune to travel to Japan, Hawaii and all over the United States.
After a couple years he decided it was time to shut this company down and retire. He sold Southwest Tackle Sales in 2008. He and Marilyn moved back to Martinsville in 2002 and raised a few cattle until he had a vision to start a big garden, Glory Land Farm, planting vegetables and advertising for people to come pick them for free. After a couple years he decided it was time to rest. He started writing devotionals and posting on social media reaching around the world. With help – he and others provided funds to help people in Africa buy bibles to put in schools in Tanzania – later he and Marilyn with help of a few churches were able to provide monetary funds to another African country to feed poor children.
Mike enjoyed his time shooting at his range, loved to reload his own bullets and make his own fishing bait. He loved to hunt, fish and visit with friends. Mike loved his family. His one wish was that everyone believes and trusts in the Lord, obey His commandments and be saved to live with the Lord forever. His favorite verse was Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

L.C. Moody, age 75, of San Augustine, Texas, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2025, at CHI St. Luke's Medical Center in San Augustine. L.C. was born May 2, 1949, in Center, Texas, to Mary Lister and the late Roscoe Moody. L.C. graduated from East Liberty High School.
L.C. began his journey following Christ at East Liberty Baptist Church. By the end of L.C.'s journey, he was a deacon of St. Matthew Baptist Church. L.C. was a "do it all man." He worked as a truck driver, entrepreneur owning a trucking company with his brother.
Serving our country in Vietnam, he was a U.S. Army veteran. L.C. had such a giving heart and would help anyone in any way possible.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roscoe Moody; grandson QuayTavious Moody; brothers, Roscoe Moody Jr., Willie L. Moody, Vernon J. Moody, and Kenneth Ray Moody; sister, Ethel M. Jenkins; and grandparents, Issac and Annie Ratcliff and Ethel and Jasper Moody.

Lois Bell O’Rear, 87, a lifelong resident of the Dreka Community of Shelby County, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2025, in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Bro. Kevin Windham will officiate. Interment will follow at Strong Cemetery in Huxley.
Born December 13, 1937, in Center, Lois is the daughter of Arthur Willis Bell and Ruby Laura Cain Bell. She finished school at Strong and worked several years as a bookkeeper for businesses in Center. Lois was the first Shelby County Sheriff’s Posse Sweetheart. On September 7, 1957, she married the love of her life, Donald O’Rear, and the two were married for sixty-one years. Her hobbies included horseback riding and rodeoing. She was a master gardener, a four-time champion poultry producer, and a lifelong cattle raiser until April 2023. Lois was a member of the Ladies Saddle Club and Oakland Missionary Baptist Church in Shelbyville.

Dr. J. Wayne Kyle, 92, of Carthage, Texas, passed away on Monday afternoon, January 6, 2025, in Tyler, Texas. James Wayne Kyle was born on October 26, 1932, in the Woods Community of Panola County, Texas to the late Kit Carson Kyle, Sr. and Berta Elizabeth Hooker Kyle.
He graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1950, and attended Panola College where he graduated in 1952. He then attended Texas A&M University where he earned a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine Degree in 1956.
Dr. Kyle married Mildred Evelyn “Milly” Williamson on July 12, 1958, at the First Methodist Church in Carthage and she preceded him in death on January 23, 2014, after 56 years together.
He enjoyed a long career practicing veterinary medicine having established Kyle Animal Clinic in Carthage and later Shelby Veterinary Center in Center. Dr. Kyle was a member of many veterinarian associations including the American Veterinarian Medical Association, the Louisiana Veterinarian Medical Association, and was the past-president of the East Texas Veterinarian Medical Association. He was honored by the Texas Veterinarian Medical Association by receiving the Practitioner of the Year Career Achievement Award in 2008. Dr. Kyle was honored to be named a Distinguished Alumni of the College of Veterinarian Medicine at Texas A&M in 2013.
He was devoted to the community having served on the Carthage I.S.D. School Board for over 36 years and was a founding board member of the Carthage I.S.D. Education Foundation. He was honored by the Education Foundation as a Distinguished Alumni in 2005. Dr. Kyle was a longtime member of the Carthage Noon Lions Club, the Panola County A&M Club, and member and past-president of the Panola County Cattleman’s Association where he served as rodeo chairman for 6 years. Dr. Kyle was a devoted member of the First Methodist Church in Carthage where he served and chaired on various committees, was a member of the Loyal Sons Sunday School Class and the Chancel Choir.
He was also preceded in death by siblings, Murph Hooker Kyle, Gwendolyn Blanche Meeks, Kit Carson “K.C.” Kyle, and Grady Stanhope Kyle and son-in-law, Michael Martin.

Kenneth Dean Cooper, 92, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025, in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Born January 19, 1932, in Shenandoah, Iowa, Kenneth is the son of Elmer Cooper and Nea Andrews Cooper. He served in the United States Air Force, retiring after twenty-one years of service. Kenneth was a member of Toledo Bend Baptist Church in Huxley.

Hubbard Lynn Hartt, Jr., 73, of Center, passed away January 3, 2025, in Denton.
Funeral service will be held at 3pm, Monday, January 6, 2025, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with visitation beginning at 2pm. Bro. Grant Murphree will officiate. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Timpson.
Lynn was born March 4, 1951, in Center, to Hubbard Lynn Hartt, Sr. “Sonny Hartt” and Mary Jo “Skeeter” Compton “Hartt”. A native of Timpson, he was a 1969 graduate of Timpson High School. He furthered his education at Stephen F. Austin University. Lynn went on to build a career of over 50 years in banking.
He was known as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Lynn was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan.
Heavily involved in his community, he was an active member of the Lions Club, a youth baseball and football coach for many years, he played minor league baseball, and served as a city judge for Timpson. Lynn founded the Capt. Jesse Amason Camp #282 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans in Shelby County. He was an Admiral in the Texas Navy and a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Timpson.

Sue Partin, 89, of Center, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025, in Center.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with visitation beginning at Noon. Bro. Micah McArthur will officiate. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.
Born November 9, 1935, in Clarksville, Sue is the daughter of Benjamin Frank Crawford and Bernice Ford Crawford. She worked at Farmers State Bank for forty-five years and worked at Center Livestock Auction for sixty-two years. Sue was a member of the Chamber of Commerce for many years, where she served as President. She was a member of numerous banking organizations and Jackson Missionary Baptist Church.

Warren John Jacobson, 87, formerly of Bear Creek, PA, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024, after a lengthy illness.
He was the son of the late Gilbert and Stella Adamitis Jacobson. He graduated from Coughlin High School in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
He lived in Houston, Texas for many years where he met his late wife, Carol Jacobson. He was a master plumber, worked for Village Plumbing and owned his own business for many years. He was a member of the Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
Warren gave of himself wholeheartedly, never refusing to help someone in need. He was a gracious man and was well liked by many friends in Texas and PA. He loved to travel, taking several cruises and was a member of the Texas Carousel Ball Room Dancing group and the Knights of Columbus.

Hazel Beasley, 92 of Center, passed away Friday, November 15, 2024 in Nacogdoches, Texas. She was born January 2, 1932 to Mary Ann McGee Edison and William I. Edison.
There will be a celebration of life hosted by family on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 3pm at the beautiful Community House, 425 San Augustine St, Center, TX 75935.
She married John Russell Shuff and together they had two sons, William and John. Her husband died in a truck accident when the boys were 4 and 2 years of age. Later, she married Kenneth Beasley who helped her raise her two sons. Hazel was in the catering business for 40 years in Houston and moved to Center in 2010. She was the director of the Senior Citizens Nutrition Site for several years.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Mary Ann McGee Edison and William I. Edison; first husband, John Russell Shuff; and her son, William Wayne Shuff.

Jimmy Lee Belrose, 79, of Center, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2024, in Center, Texas, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born November 18, 1945, in Center, Texas, to the late Cecil Emmett and Vena Mae Willoughby Belrose.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home with Melba Rodgers officiating. VFW and American Legion Members will offer Military Honors. Interment will follow at Sardis Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Noon prior to the service.
Jimmy lived his entire life in the Sardis Community. After school, he enlisted in the Army, where he served in the Vietnam War. After returning home from the Army, he met the love of his life, Linda Lou Pugh. They were married 56 years on December 21, 2024. Together, they had two children.
Jimmy worked 30+ years as a Millwright at Georgia Pacific in Logansport, Louisiana. He loved to hunt, fish, and trade guns and knives in his spare time.

Born August 5, 1943, in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, Barbara is the daughter of Lloyd Leon Rogers and Montes McDonald Rogers. She married her high school sweetheart, Johnny Pridgen, at the age of seventeen. The two created a beautiful life together and were married for almost sixty years. She was a devoted wife and Nana. Her life was her children and grandchildren. Barbara made many friends through her work at Joaquin’s City Office, and she served on the city council for many years. She was a member of Word of Faith Outreach Center for over thirty years.

John Ellis Hendrick, 78, of Timpson, Texas, passed away on December 26, 2024, surrounded by loved ones in Longview, Texas. He was born on July 23, 1946, in Timpson, Texas, to the late Leonard John Hendrick and Naomi Lee (Lilly) Hendrick.
Funeral service will be held at 2PM on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Mangum Funeral Home, with Bro. Eric Pledger officiating. Interment to follow at New Prospect Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3-5PM on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Mangum Funeral Home.
John was born and raised in Timpson. He graduated from Timpson High School Class of 1964. After graduation John went to Jacksonville Junior College, part of the Baptist Missionary Association of America where he played football. There he earned many awards such as Honorable Mention and voted Most Handsome. Later he went to Stephen F. Austin State University and received a Bachelor of Science degree then completed his master’s degree in education. He spent much of his life working as an electrician then he entered the education field. He retired after many years in education working for the Nacogdoches ISD Co-operative. After John retired he decided to return to his passion of education finishing his career at Panola Charter School in Carthage. John lived a life filled with passion for cattle farming and spent much time trying to master the Red Brangus bloodline. He loved riding his side-by-side, especially with his grandkids, checking on the cattle and fences. John was an observer. He spent lots of time riding and just enjoying the outdoors. He adored his children, and especially his grandchildren.

Mr. James Gary "Yogi" "Red Bug" Andrews, age 77, of San Augustine, Texas, passed away Monday, December 23, 2024, at Summit Health Care in San Augustine.
He was born October 27, 1947, in Center, Texas, to parents Evelyn Leona (Beasley) and James Moses Andrews and was a longtime area resident, graduating from San Augustine High School in 1966. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam working as a helicopter mechanic. He was a proud patriotic American and member of the VFW Post.
Yogi worked several years at E.L. Bruce Hardwood in Center, Toledo Automotive at Center and San Augustine locations, San Augustine Fiberglass, and the City of San Augustine, where he retired. He was "honorary shop foreman" at Bob Evans Equipment. Several generations grew up visiting with Yogi at the old Hardy's parking lot, on the square, or Brookshire Brothers parking lot.
Many only knew him as "Red Bug" from his CB handle. He was well known in the CB radio world. Many never knew his real name, only by "Yogi" and that's the way he wanted it. Every time someone called him Mr. Andrews, he would quickly reply, "That's my daddy!"
Yogi was quite the hand to work on electronics, scanners, and CBs. As time progressed, so did Yogi. When the world left CBs moving into the cell phone and computer age, he was in the middle of it. He could work on them and fix them all.
