Joe Scot (Scotty) Ramsey, 75, passed away at his home in Magnolia, Texas on Saturday, the 8th of April 2023. His high school sweetheart and wife of 55 years, Dorice Gafford Ramsey, was by his side. Scot was born on March 13th, 1948, in Memphis, TN to Samuel Price Ramsey, Jr. and Helen Stivers Ramsey Hardy but spent his childhood growing up in Center, Texas. He is preceded in death by his father and mother and his sister, Barbara Ramsey Hightower Bufford, and stepfather Augustus Lipscomb “Gus” Hardy.

Scot had many accomplishments throughout life. In high school he was on the Center Junior Rifle Club ranking 231st out of 3,000 competitors in NRA sectional tournaments where his 4-person rifle team ranked 4th best high school team in the nation. He went on to break existing shooting record and was declared State 4-H Rifle Champion in 1963. Golf was another sport he excelled at and enjoyed throughout his life, winning numerous local and state tournaments. His Dad played the piano which led him to pick up the guitar and teach himself to play lead guitar and sing in a high school band that entertained at local events. His Mom was an outstanding cook and Scot learned much from her while living at home and put those skills to use at family gatherings and over the campfire. He was an avid outdoors person who spent time with family and friends hiking, camping, canoeing, riding motorcycles, hunting, skiing, gardening, and just about anything that involved being outdoors.
Scot has always been a self-made man striving to be the best at whatever he pursues but never forgot who helped him along the way. He reunited with his classmates of 1966 last year in Center, Texas and so enjoyed visiting with them even though he was physically weak from cancer treatments…meant a lot to him seeing his high school friends again. Golf and hunting were his favorite sports and never missed a chance to get together with his friends, family and business associates for a fun-filled outing. As much as he enjoyed spending time with friends, he also enjoyed spending time with family on skiing, rafting, winery events, family gatherings and road trips to the Rockies. Scot’s greatest accomplishment of all was his love of family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who was instrumental in raising his daughter and grandkids to be the best they could be in this life and for that our family is truly blessed.
Scot acquired an Associate of Applied Engineering from Tyler Junior College and later graduated from Lamar State College of Technology in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Geology. Scot’s corporate career spanned four decades in the oil and gas industry as exploration geologist and later environmental consultant, with 15 years employed at Northern Michigan Exploration (CMS) as Gulf Coast Exploration Manager. He has been described by friends and colleagues as a Prince of a man having super brain power. He was an avid reader and historian, and being a scientist researched the facts before drawing conclusions. Scot always focused on the positive and gave no time to the negative. He had the ability to make everyone feel special, taking time to get to know them, and genuinely cared about them. He was highly respected and believed that all men could deal honestly by honest methods. He believed in courtesy, in kindness, in generosity, in good cheer in friendship and love of family. His integrity, sense of humor and wit will be forever missed.

Gwendolyn Reené Belsha Hooper, 63, of Houston, passed away Monday, April 17, 2023, in Houston.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 21, 2023, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Watson & Sons Chapel. Interment will follow at Old Center Cemetery in Panola County. Bro. Mike McMahon will officiate.
Born November 13, 1959, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Reené is the daughter of Elton Lamar Belsha and Zelna Hughes Belsha. Her hobbies included gardening and photography. She was a member of William Carroll Crawford Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Reené was of the Christian faith.

Katherine Ann Marino, 77 of Timpson, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2023 in Timpson, Texas.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Taylor Funeral Home with Andy Glenn officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Timpson. Visitation will be held from 1-2pm prior to the service.
She was born on April 5, 1946 in Morgan City, Louisiana, the daughter of Herbert and Ellen Reeves Brown. She grew up on the bayou where she learned to love fishing, crabbing and generally being outdoors with her siblings. They had a bond like no other and continued that closeness during their lifetime. In 1965, at the age of 19, Katherine married Luke Marino, Sr. She became a housewife and filled her home with love and of course, children. In 1979 they moved to Timpson and bought a store. She absolutely treasured being a mother. Her kids were the light of her life and she made sure they knew she was always there for them. Although life dealt her the sorrow of being a widow early in life, she took it in stride and raised her children to know many things, including to love The Lord, be your own person, stand up for yourself and others, always put your family in the forefront of everything and to strive to be better people with every passing day. Katherine remarried later in life and remained the family matriarch.
Katherine was a woman of strong opinions and when asked what she thought about something, you better be ready because she was going to tell you… whether you liked it or not. She was boisterous, bold and could be a bit rigid but this is what made her strong. She loved with her whole heart and if she loved you, you knew it without any doubt. She would give up anything for those she loved. Although she was stern in her teachings, she was loving and giving. Katherine was proud of her children and what they grew up to be and bragged on them to everyone. Their families were perfect in her eyes and she loved all of them. Being a mother was her greatest accomplishment and watching them grow up and be successful adults was the answer to her prayers. When she had the name of “Granny” bestowed upon her, her heart was overwhelmed with joy. She treated and loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren just as she did their parents.
Katherine was happiest when surrounded by her entire family and loved being the center of their world. She lived life to the fullest and made many memories while traveling with her sister, Lillie and best friend, Alice Blaze. They played Bingo, took their chances at the casino and saw many wonderful places together. She also made every vacation she could with her kids and grandkids. More than anything, she loved watching the happiness unfold right in front of her as they made these memories together. She loved watching old westerns, crocheting, reading and working puzzles. She also had a vast collection of movies that she spent many hours watching with her family. Katherine will forever be remembered as the strong woman who held the family close. Her teachings, devotion and dedication will remain the glue that will hold together the one thing she was most proud of… her family.

Donna Warren Holt of Center, TX passed away peacefully on April 16, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Carthage, MS and grew up in Houston, TX. She graduated from SFA with a Degree in Education after which, Mrs. Holt made her home in Center, TX for 57 years.
She joined the Chi Omega sorority during her time at SFA and was an active member of the Center chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Serving as President and on many other offices and committees.
She was a beloved teacher of Home Economics at Center High School for 26 years during which time she earned her Masters Degree in Education and another in Administration. Her students fondly remember “Mz. Warren” and her class.
She married Bill Holt on April 19, 2003 and they spent 20 beautiful years together. During which time he accepted her children, grandchildren, and great children as his own to create a strongly bonded family that will never be broken.
She was an active member of the First Methodist Church of Center, TX and enjoyed volunteering with church events and functions.
Her membership in the Piney Woods Photographic Society brought her so much pleasure and joy. She traveled the coast of Texas and other parts of the state with fellow members to photograph birds and nature of different areas. Her photos won many blue ribbons in local and state events.
Donna loved her home and yard and took much pride in the beautiful flowers, plants and lush landscaping she designed and maintained.
She loved being with her friends in the Center Woman’s Reading Club and served as treasurer for the organization. Donna served in many volunteer positions throughout Shelby County.
Donna was preceded in death by her precious parents, Ona Mae and Almon Chadwick Boozer and Granddaughter, Danielle Angel Osburn.
Donna's greatest joy in life was being “Nona”. Nothing brought her more joy than her family. She was a selfless woman who gave all her time and energy to those who needed it.

Pamela Durham, 60, of Timpson, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, April 13, 2023, in Timpson, Texas surrounded by her loving family.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
Pamela Durham was born on November 2, 1962 to Arthur and Wyceil Durham in Timpson. She attended Timpson High School. At 17, she moved to Fort Worth, Texas with her older sister Rusby, and she graduated from Dunbar High School. She then attended Fort Worth College where she graduated as a Medical Assistant. Pamela was a member at Wayside Church of God in Christ in Fort Worth, Texas. She worked for years at Frito- Lay and Tandy's Doskocil. She stayed in Fort Worth for more than 30 years and she decided to come back home in 2012. She joined Clayton Temple Church of God in Christ, where she was a faithful member until her death.
Pamela was the baby girl of seven kids. Her sisters Barbara, Jennifer, Rusby and Alice have done all they could to make sure she has been well taken care of. She was a breast cancer survivor and even through her double amputation she always kept the Faith.

Jimmy Oyd “Ish” Bradshaw, 77 of Center, TX was born on September 14, 1945, to John and Essie Gunnels Bradshaw. He passed away on April 16, 2023, in Bossier City, LA.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Chris Collins and Bro. Steven Berry officiating. On October 14, 1972, Jimmy married the love of his life, Betty. They spent 50 wonderful years together raising 3 beautiful children: Michael, Darla, and Bo. Jimmy was in the trucking business for 48 years and was known for taking pristine care and exceptional maintenance of his trucks. Jimmy loved spending time with his family and friends. He also loved working with his hands. Some of his favorite hobbies were camping, fishing, gardening, woodworking and watching his favorite show Swamp People, which he often would talk about wanting to go gator hunting. Jimmy never met a stranger and always loved to make people laugh. After he retired, you could find him fishing on Toledo bend, woodworking in his shop, or just being outdoors. He was extremely creative and crafty; He could make and invent anything. From taking an old copy machine and turning it into a pea sheller to making and selling pens. A few other things he made were keychains, cutting boards, jewelry boxes, bird houses, a fish scaling table and the list goes on. Jimmy loved the Lord and was a member of the McClelland Community Church. He truly enjoyed life and will be dearly missed.

Bobby “Bob” Ray Powell, 81, of Shelbyville, Texas, passed away on April 15, 2023, in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born on November 6, 1941, in Denton County, Texas, to the late J.M. and Mary Ella Powell.
Funeral services will be held at Mangum Funeral Home, on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at 2pm with Bro. Don Windham and Bro. Dan Flemings officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, beginning at 1PM until service time at Mangum Funeral Home. Interment will follow at West Hamilton Cemetery, in Shelbyville, Texas.
Bob was born in Denton County, Texas and that is where he also graduated from high school. Bob met the love of his life, Delsia Denby, through his Uncle Johnny and Juanita. The two were married in 1983 and have shared over 40 wonderful years of wedded bliss. Bob worked as a printer at the Taylor Publishing Company in Dallas, Texas. After retiring, they made their home in Shelby County.
Bob was a loving husband, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed every sport. He loved TCU, Texas Rangers, and the Dallas Cowboys. You could find Bob fishing, attending fellowships at church, or spending time with his friends and family. He loved the Lord and served through his membership at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

Born November 1, 1936, Faye is the daughter of Riley Bush and Bura Lee Courtney Bush. She worked for Moore Business Forms and Center Plywood. Faye also ran Martinsville Grocery Store for several years. Most of all, her devotion was to her husband, kids, and grandkids. She was a member of White Rock Missionary Baptist Church in Shelby County.

Peggy Jo Fleming, of Center Texas passed away peacefully on Friday, March 24th, 2023 in La Porte, Texas surrounded by her loving family. She was 81 years old.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Rosevine Church of God in Bronson Texas.
Peggy was born on January 17, 1942 in Center, Texas to Joe and Dorothy (Moore) Parker. She was an only child. She worked at various jobs over the years but later in life decided to go back to school and earn her nursing certification. She was a nurse for over 25 years and enjoyed caring for her patients in the Home Health field and working for various Nursing homes. Peggy also enjoyed sewing, making lots of clothes (some that we didn’t really want to wear) and twirling costumes over the years, reading and cooking for her family. Many of her recipes were passed down and will be enjoyed for years to come. Peggy loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren beyond measure and will be greatly missed by all.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents Joe Parker and Dorothy (Moore) Parker Steward and her fur baby Bella.

Kim Williams, 63, of Center, passed away Friday, April 14, 2023, in Center.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 17, 2023, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at Noon, Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Watson & Sons Chapel. Interment will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Center.

Charlotte Hughes, 76, of Center, passed away Friday, April 14, 2023, in Center.

Born July 23, 1947, in Center, Charlotte is the daughter of Julius Elzie Windham and Margaret Corinne Meyers Windham. She loved gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.

Celisha Renee Creech, 43, passed away April 13, 2023. She was born March 19, 1980.
Memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with visitation at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Jackson Cemetery in Joaquin.
Celisha was a very devoted wife and mother and a loving daughter. She enjoyed Beau and Cora’s many activities, especially Beau’s music and Cora’s softball. She encouraged them to live life to the fullest and she was so proud of them. Celisha attended several different schools, but graduated from Joaquin High School in May 1998. She married the love of her life, Brady, on November 14, 1998. She was of the Baptist faith.

James Freddie Shelton, 79, of Center, Texas, passed away on April 13, 2023, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born on September 25, 1943, in Pasadena, Texas, to the late Freddie Shelton and Ruby Gordon Davis.
A graveside service will be held at Old Home Cemetery, on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at 2pm with Bro. Gordon Vaughn officiating.

Charlsie (Ginger) Emanis Marcone, resident at Garrison Nursing Home in Garrison, TX, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2023 one day before her 103 birthday. She was born April 12, 1920, in the Arcadia Community of Shelby County to J.W. Emanis and Eva Jane Gillespie Emanis.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023, 3:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall, First Methodist Church, Garrison TX.
She served in the Coast Guard in the 1940s and married John Marcone in 1947. They settled in Houston, TX, and that is where they welcomed their daughter, Janet.
Charlsie loved cooking for crowds and enjoyed entertaining. She also loved dancing and listening to music, especially gospel music. Her love of the outdoors led to her become an avid gardener. Charlsie was very involved in her church and hosted many events at her home for her friends and fellow church members. She was a people-person with a big personality and a big heart. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
Preceded in death by husband, John Marcone; sisters, Nara Emanis Hughes Kelly, Golda Emanis Punkoney; and brothers, Eloy Emanis, Walter Emanis, F.A. Emanis, Guy Emanis, and Blaine Emanis.

Burdest LeRoy Crockett, 52, passed away Friday, April 7, 2023. He was bom on July 11, 1950 to the late Burdest Crockett and Lola Mae Dearon Crockett.
Funeral service is 1pm Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Reed Chapel Baptist Church, 206 Ironosa Road, San Augustine, Texas 75972 with Reverend A. L. Horton, Pastor. Bishop Zephaniah Swindle is officiating. Visitation is from 10am until 6pm on Friday, April 14, 2023 at Community Funeral Home Chapel in Center, Texas. Interment is at Corinth Cemetery.
LeRoy was baptized at Corinth Baptist Church at an early age.
He married his love the late Lee Argie Booth Crockett on May 26, 1979. LeRoy worked in the logging business for 45 years, before retiring, he adopted the nickname Tree Killer by many long-time friends who worked alongside him.
He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Burdest Crockett and Lola Mae Dearon Crockett; wife, Lee Argie Booth; beloved siblings, sisters, Lue Venia Bames, Lizzia Crockett, Lue Willie Mosby, Velma Crockett, and Doris Crockett; brothers, Luke Crockett and Lonnie Crockett; granddaughters, KeAudra Duncan and KeAudra Duncan; and grandson, De'Skyshen Crockett.

Leamon “Buddy” Bridwell, 78, of Center, passed away Monday, April 10, 2023, in Center.

Buddy was born October 4, 1944, in Nacogdoches, to Leamon Harvey Bridwell and Ruth Haley Bridwell. Buddy would begin his day with a cup of coffee and a honeybun, with his dog, Bailey, at his feet getting his bites also. He loved his fur babies past and present. He loved helping people and watching TV shows about Big Foot. Buddy was a member of First Baptist Church in Center.
