December 2, 2024 - The Joaquin Rams will play Honey Grove in the Region III Championship on 7pm, Thursday, December 5 at the Ford Center at The Star, 9 Cowboy Way, Frisco, Texas.

Joaquin ISD will early release on Thursday at 12:30pm and no school on Friday, December 6.

The only noise makers allowed at the game are cowbells.

Many football experts say it is hard to beat a good football team twice but that is exactly what the Joaquin Rams did on Friday when they defeated the Shelbyville Dragons by a 54-30 score. The game was a Texas UIL Region III Semifinal round game and the win sends the Rams to the Region III Finals which is in affect the State Quarterfinals. The Rams will next face Honey Grove who defeated Waskom by a 54-29 score.

Joaquin gained the first lead when they went 70 yards in 11 plays during their first possession. Senior Rams runningback Tate Bass capped the drive with a 4-yard touchdown run with 6:08 minutes left in the first period. Teammate Elijah Hardison added a 2-point conversion run and JHS led 8-0.

Shelbyville went 65 yards and senior quarterback DJ Barnes capped the drive with an 8-yard QB keeper run for the Dragons first score. Shelbyville’s conversion attempt failed and they trailed Joaquin 8-6 with 1:23 left in the first quarter.

Senior Rams quarterback Justyn Brown hit senior back Tate Bass for a 32-yard touchdown reception with 9:42 left in the second period. Senior fullback TJ Hawkins crashed into the endzone for the 2-point conversion run and JHS led 16-6.

Senior Ram Dallon Jordan scored on a 19-yard touchdown run with 3:39 left in the second stanza and Hawkins added another conversion run which gave Joaquin a 24-6 point advantage.

Barnes scored for Shelbyville on a 9-yard run with 1:07 left before halftime and then he hit senior Jon Jon Mathis for a conversion completion which cut Joaquin’s lead to 24-14.

The third quarter saw Hardison add a pair of Rams touchdown runs to his resume and Joaquin led 38-14 going into the final period.

In the final period, Barnes found senior receiver Geechie Mathis for a 13-yard touchdown reception and then Barnes hit senior Tanner Doggett for a 2-point conversion strike which cut the JHS lead to 38-22.

Jordan scored on a 10-yard touchdown run with 9:49 left to play and sophomore Cooper Bragg converted a 2-point run to give Joaquin a 46-22 advantage.

Barnes hit Doggett for an 11-yard touchdown completion at the 5:49 mark and then he hit Hunter Harvey for a 2-pont completion which saw the Dragons cut the Ram’s lead to 16 points at 46-30.

Hawkins scored on a 3-yard Rams touchdown run with 4:17 left in the contest and Bass added a conversion run to give JHS a 54-30 lead and this score held up until game’s end.

Joaquin advances and they hold a 9-4 overall record. They finished the season as the fourth seed of District 11 2A-1. Shelbyville finishes at 10-3 overall and they were the first place seed of District 11 2A-1.

November 29, 2024 - On Friday, December 6, the current Center Lady Roughrider basketball team will be honoring the legacy of the Lady Roughrider basketball program at our new coliseum at 6:00 PM. The previous alumni and district champions will be recognized.

The 12th Man Foundation's mission is funding scholarships, programs and facilities in support of championship athletics. Named in honor of Texas A&M's renowned 12th Man tradition.

Last Friday two Shelby County varsity football teams won area round football playoff game to advance on to the Texas UIL State Football Playoff Region III Semifinal elimination games. The Joaquin Rams and the Shelbyville Dragons will now face off against each other on Black Friday, November 29, 2024 at Henderson Lions Stadium at 1 p.m.

The Rams were able to hold off the Cooper Bulldogs last Friday and take the 32-24 win. They are now 8-4 overall and on a two-game win streak.

The Shelbyville Dragons took a 75-48 win over the Beckville Bearcats and they are now 10-2. They are currently on a 3-game win-streak. Shelbyville took their only district loss at Joaquin on October 31.

The Joaquin Rams varsity football team took a 32-24 win over the Cooper Bulldogs in a Texas UIL State Playoff Area Round game on Friday. The win advances the Rams to a Region III Semifinal playoff with fellow District 11 2A-1 rival Shelbyville next week. Joaquin stands at 8-4 for the season and Shelbyville is at 10-2 after taking a 75-48 area round win over Beckville on Friday.

On Cooper’s first drive of the game Courian Finney gave CHS good field position with a kickoff return to midfield and CHS went 50 yards in 12 plays for the game’s first score. Adryean Finney scored on a 2-yard run on the final play of the drive and Matthew Hudson kicked an extra point to give the Bulldogs a 7-0 point lead with 6:51 minutes left in the first quarter.

With 11:54 left in the second period Joaquin answered with a touchdown from Justyn Brown to Elijah Hardison for a 9-yard touchdown reception. Hardison scored again on a 2-point run conversion run to give JHS an 8-7 lead.

Adrien Finney scored from 9 yards away with 4:11 left in the second period. Hudson added another 1-point kick to give the Bulldogs a 14-8 advantage. Joaquin answered with a 54-yard, 5 play drive which saw Dallon Jordan score on a 2-yard touchdown run with 1:49 left in the first half. A failed conversion attempt saw the two teams tied at 14-14.

The final score of the first half came with a single second left on the clock before halftime when Hudson nailed a 32-yard field goal which gave Cooper a 17-14 lead at the half.

Joaquin regained the lead in the second half when Elijah Harrison scored on a 3-yard touchdown run with 7:59 left in the third quarter. The extra point attempt sailed wide and JHS held a narrow 20-17 lead. Cooper’s next offensive drive failed and Joaquin went 50 yards in five plays and Cooper Bragg capped the drive with a 7-yard rushing touchdown. Joaquin’s conversion attempt failed but they held a 26-17 lead with 3:07 left in the third period.

A 20-yard scoring strike from Finney to Austin Pecina helped CHS cut the Joaquin lead to 26-24 with 10:34 left in the fourth quarter. Joaquin answered with a 35-yard touchdown run by Jordan with 6:06 left in the game. Joaquin led 32-24. Cooper went on a 13-play drive but the Rams defense held them on a fourth down inside the Rams 15-yardline with just 43 seconds remaining.

Tatum Eagles Stadium on Friday, November 15, 2024 –

The Center Roughriders varsity football team fell by a 20-14 point score to the Gilmer Buckeyes during a Texas UIL Bi-District Round Playoff game at Tatum High School. The elimination loss saw Center’s 2024 season mark end at 8-3.

Center stopped the Buckeyes on their first drive and forced them to punt. The Roughriders then went 74 yards in 7 plays and scored when quarterback TJ Belin scored on a 2-yard run on third-down-and- goal. Placekicker Pablo Huichapa nailed the extra point kick and CHS led 7-0 with 7:11 minutes left in the first quarter.

Gilmer answered with a 9 play, 55-yard scoring drive which ended with a Trillyon Butler 16-yard touchdown run with 3:15 still left in the opening period. A Brayden Pate extra point kick tied the game at 7-7.

Gilmer went 54 yards in 6 plays and took 13-7 lead with another Butler run from 3 yards out with 8:09 left in the second quarter. The Buckeye’s conversion attempt failed.

After stopping Center, the Buckeyes extended their lead when quarterback Brady McCown hit Brenden Webb for a 31-yard scoring strike with 2:39 left in the second period. Gilmer went up 20-7.

The final score of the contest came in the third quarter when Tim Johnson scored on a 9-yard sweep with 1:29 left. Huichapa kicked the PAT and CHS cut Gilmer’s lead to 20-14.
