After reaching the Texas state football semifinals as finalist, for four straight seasons, the Timpson Bears varsity football team has advanced to the final round by defeating the Ganado Indians by a 35-21 score. The Bears (15-0) will now face the Tolar Rattlers (14-1) in the State 2A Division I Championship at ATT Stadium in Arlington Texas at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. Tolar defeated Stratford by a 35-7 score to reach this matchup.

Thursday saw Timpson trail early after Ganado drove 70 yards on their first drive and they then scored first when Ganado Indian quarterback Bryce Ullman found receiver Austen Pena for a 41-yard touchdown reception at the 7:48 minute mark of the first period. Joe Rodriguez added an extra point kick which gave GHS a 7-0 lead.

Timpson answered with a 62-yard drive which saw quarterback Terry Bussey score on a 6-yard touchdown run with 3:52 left in the opening quarter. Tyler Lane added an extra point kick to tie the game at 7-7.

Ganado got a huge kick return from Landon Hicks and began their next drive at the Timpson 22-yardline. Moments later Ullman scored on a quarterback sneak from the 1-foot line and gave GHS a 14-7 lead with less than 1 minute left in the opening frame.

The second quarter saw Ganado go up 21-7 when Ullman hit Cain Hayden for a 5-yard touchdown reception with 9:24 left in the first half.

Timpson went 57 yards and scored when Bussey hit Dacorian Johnson for a 14-yard touchdown reception with 3:31 left in the second stanza. Another Lane extra point kick cut Ganado’s lead to 21-14. This score remained the score at the halftime intermission.

Timpson tied the game at 21-21 when Bussey hit Shahed Cross for a 5-yard touchdown reception and Lane added an extra point at the 9:24 mark of the third quarter.

The Indians drove the ball on their next drive but the Bears were able to force a failed field goal attempt inside the redzone and THS took over possession at the Timpson 20-yardline. Bussey scored with just 2 seconds left in the third period on a 12-yard run. A Lane extra point kick gave the Bears a 28-21 advantage going into the final quarter.

Timpson stopped the Indians first drive of the fourth frame and then the Bears used up over five minutes of clock to go 64 yards.  Bussey scored from 7 yards out to cap the drive and help the Bears take a 35-21 lead. The Timpson defense then held the Indians in check and the Bears eventually ran-off the remaining 2:15 minutes to hold on to that lead.

After the game Timpson Head Football Coach Kerry Therwhanger stated, “I am proud of our boys and it is good to see them move along in this journey. This is their memories and we get to take part but this is really their journey and their accomplishments. We struggled a little early but we are a senior laden team who just kept doing what we have been doing all year. They fought back and earned the win!”

December 6, 2023 - (Photo Album) - Family and friends celebrated the Center Roughrider 5th and 6th Grade football team during a banquet held at the Community House in Center on Tuesday, December 5, 2023.

The team went 10-1 for their regular season and had the opportunity to participate in the Red Zone games at Dallas Cowboy’s AT&T Stadium on November 24, 2023, where they participated with other teams in competition where they finished 3-1, and even took a tour of the stadium.

At the onset of the banquet, Coach Jamie Jackson handed out awards to each of the players who were present and they all were presented with a goody bag.

The player roster includes: Sean Williams-Black, James Jarrett III, Cameron Williams, Lajaggar Barnes, Dallas Martinez, Dedrick Williams Jr, De’Raylin Garrett, Kayden Claybrook, Tristen Johnson, Eli Almaraz, De’Javian Wilson, Mason Bates, Jace Hubbard, Booker Belrose, Zamichael Jones, Jordan Mitchell, Darwin "DJ" Cartwright, Keegan Curtis, Cash Tyre, Jordan Polley, and Laderek Moten.

The team was coached by, Head Coach: Jamie Jackson; and Assistant Coaches: Baron Horton, Joshua Black, Dedrick Williams Sr., Justin Garrett, and Freeman Thomas.

Stephen F. Austin’s Homer Bryce Stadium on Friday, December 1, 2023 –

The Timpson Bears varsity football team has moved forward in the Texas UIL Football Playoffs with a 35-23 state quarterfinal win over the Garrison Bulldogs at Stephen F. Austin State University on Friday. Timpson now stands at 14-0 and they will face Ganado High School next week in the Semifinal round. Garrison’s season ends with a 12-2 record and both losses came against Timpson.

Timpson scored first when senior quarterback Terry Bussey broke loose for a 36-yard touchdown with 4:32 minutes left in the first quarter of play. Senior kicker Tyler Lane added an extra point kick and THS led 7-0.

With 10:09 remaining in the second period Garrison got on the scoreboard when senior quarterback Brayden Davidson scored on a 1-yard touchdown run which capped a 67-yard Bulldogs drive. Freshman kicker JT Reagan added an extra point kick which tied the game at 7-7.

Bussey found Bears senior wideout Shahed Cross for a 53-yard touchdown reception with just 8 seconds remaining in the first half. Another Lane extra point kick gave Timpson a 14-7 lead at the halftime intermission.

A 30-yard Bulldogs field goal by Reagan cut the Bears lead to 14-10 with 7:42 left in the third stanza. Bussey broke free for a 12-yard Bears score with 2:45 left in the third quarter and Lane booted another point after to give THS a 21-10 advantage.

Bussey added another score to his resume when he scored from 8 yards out with 11:18 left in the final quarter. Lane booted the extra point which gave the Bears a 28-10 lead. Garrison answered with a touchdown run by junior runningback Avery Yarbrough with 8:46 left in the game Garrison trailed Timpson 28-16.

Senior Bears linebacker Baylor Kimbro intercepted a Bulldogs pass at the GHS 40-yardline with 2:50 left and Bussey wasted no time as he weaved through Bulldogs defenders for a 35-yard score with 1:55 left in the contest to help give Timpson a 35-16 advantage.

Garrison scored the games’ final touchdown when Davidson hit senior receiver Jachristopher Shepherd for an 8-yard touchdown reception with just 1:19 left in the game. Reagan added the extra point kick and the Bears won 35-23 after controlling the clock for the remainder of the game.

November 27, 2023 - The Timpson Bears will face Garrison Bulldogs at 7pm Friday, December 1, 2023 at SFA's Homer Bryce Stadium in the State Quarterfinal Football Game. Kickoff is at 7pm and Timpson will be the home team.

Accepted passes are District 11, Senior Citizen, and THSCA. Tickets at $10 at the gate - both cash and credit card will be accepted. 

Timpson ISD will have a ticket presale - more information will be provided when it becomes available.

November 28, 2023 - (Photo Album) - The Center Tennis Association hosted a tennis tournament on November 25, 2023, at the Coach Leon Dykes Center ISD Tennis Complex.

40 participants showed up to play tennis and pickle ball during the event. Coach Leon Dykes welcomed everyone and thanked Sabine State Bank, and Steve Waters, for sponsoring the chicken lunch that was made available to those attending. 

All proceeds from the tournament and the chicken plates went to the Center Tennis Association.

Dykes said there is another summer program planned for the coming year.

Tennis, and pickle ball, registration began around 10am and play went on until 3:40pm 

At the completion of the final round Jelen Postell and Logan Galindo received 1st place; Nathan Cox and Lance Holloway received 2nd place; and 3rd place was a two-way tie between Ian Williams and Johnny Delaney with Emily Howard and Alec Dykes. Williams and Delaney lost the racket spin.

November 27, 2023 - The Center Roughrider's 9th and Junior Varsity Basketball tournament scheduled for December 1st and 2nd has been cancelled due to lack of participants.

The Timpson Bears have moved on in the 2023 Texas UIL Football Playoffs after defeating the Honey Grove Warriors by a 68-7 score. Honey Grove did not score until the final seconds of the contest.

With 8:46 minutes left in the first period Timpson quarterback Terry Bussey hit receiver Colton Carroll who scored the first touchdown from 35 yards out. Tyler Lane kicked the extra point which gave THS an early 7-0 advantage. Four minutes later Bussey intercepted a Warriors pass and returned it for another score which gave Timpson a 14-0 lead with 4:50 left in the first period. Moments later Bear Devin Tutt recovered a Warrior’s fumble and the Bears wasted no time scoring. Bussey hit junior runningback JJ Garner for a 17-yard touchdown reception. Another lane extra point gave THS a 21-0 advantage with 4:03 still left in the first stanza. Garner recovered a HGHS fumble on the next possession and Bussey scored on a 5-yard touchdown run which gave Timpson a 27-0 lead at the 3:48 mark of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw Bussey and Garner each score twice and balloon Timpson’s lead to 54-0 by the halftime intermission. Timpson scored with 10:08 left in the third quarter when Bussey hit Garner for a 14-yard touchdown and Lane kicked an extra point to boost the THS lead to 61-0. Timpson’s final score came when Garner bolted free on a 79-yard scoring run with 3:35 left in the third period and another extra point kick gave Timpson a 68-0 lead.

The Warriors scored in the waning seconds of the final period Rhylan Morris hit Dre Patt for a touchdown reception with just 4 seconds remaining in the contest and Gio Jaramillo added the extra point kick. The Warriors season ended with them holding a 10-5-1 season record.

The Bears are 13-0 and they will face the Garrison Bulldogs in a rematch, at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2023 at SFA's Homer Bryce Stadium in the State Quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Timpson will be the home team. The Bulldogs were the Bears District 11 2A-1 opponents and they hold a 12-1 season record. The two teams played on November 3 in a game which decided this year’s District 11 champion and the playoff seeding. The Bears took a 35-26 home win. The GHS Bulldogs defeated the Cooper Bulldogs 47-20 to reach the playoff with Timpson.

October 12, 2023 - Center Tennis Association met and has planned a tournament for Saturday, November 25, 10am - 4pm at the Center High School tennis courts. 

Bring your $20 entry fee and a can of balls. 

There will be two pickleball courts, also. A $10 grilled chicken sandwich lunch will be available during the tournament. Open to freshman in high school and up, no fee for high school kids.
