The Timpson Bears varsity basketball team took a 76-51 Texas UIL Quarterfinal Playoff win over the Tenaha Tigers. The win gave the Bears a 20-3 season mark and will advance them to the Semifinals where they will face the winner of Tuesday’s game between Grapeland and LaPoynor High Schools.

The Bears gained a 8-4 advantage midway through the first period and built it to a 21-13 lead by the end of the first quarter. Timpson led 33-25 at the midway break and 60-38 by the end of the third stanza.

The Bears were led by Terry Bussey with 25 points. Bears Vosky Howard, Jackson Campbell and Amare Bruton each had ten points apiece. Tenaha was led by Charles Hervey with 16 points and Kamarion Ross scored 10 points.

February 22, 2023 - The Shelbyville Boys Basketball team will play Friday, February 24 at 6pm at Henderson High School versus Hawkins. The Dragons are Visitors. Admission is $5 for Adults and $3 for Students. Senior Citizen, District, and Coaches passes will be accepted.

Rusk Eagles Gymnasium on Tuesday February 21, 2023 –

The Center Roughriders defeated the Madisonville Mustangs in a UIL Class 4A Basketball Bi-District Playoff, on Tuesday, by a narrow 63-62 final score. The game was played at Rusk Eagles High School, a neutral site. The Roughriders came in as the first place seed of District 17 and they now boast a 27-4 overall record. The Mustangs were the fourth-place representative of District 18 and finished the season with a 25-11 mark.

The game was close and hard-fought throughout. Center held a narrow 11-9 point lead midway through the first period. The game was tied at 17-17 at the end of the first period. Center gained a 25-21 advantage midway through the second frame and they led 37-31 at the midway break. Center outpaced the Mustangs 14-5 points in the third stanza to gain the biggest lead of the game. The Roughriders led 51-36 going into the final period of play. Madisonville was able to outscore CHS 26-12 in the final quarter but their comeback came up just short.

The Roughriders were led by Mar Mar Evans with 22 points, ‘Rider Cash Cross scored 14 and Bobo Gipson added 11 points to the Center tally sheet. Madisonville was led by Anqwan Morning and Cyrus Byrd who each scored 14 points apiece.

Center will next face the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns on Friday, February 24, 2023 at 6 p.m. at Woodville Eagles Gymnasium. This will be the area round of the playoffs.

February 21, 2023 - The Center Riders will play in the first round of Bi-District Basketball playoffs on Tuesday, February 21st at 6 in Rusk at Eagle Gymnasium against Madisonville. Doors open at 5:30pm with tickets $5/adults and $3/students.

Hallsville Bobcats Gymnasium on Monday, February 20, 2023 –

The Tenaha Lady Tigers won a Texas UIL Region III Quarterfinal win over the McLeod Longhorns on Monday by a 63-18 score. Tenaha is now 33-2. McLeod finished their season at 22-12.

The Lady Tigers went on a 13-0 run by the end of the first quarter. They outpaced McLeod 22-4 in the second period and took a 35-4 lead into the locker room at the midway break. By the end of the third stanza Tenaha held a 52-8 point advantage. The Lady Tigers were able to outscore the Lady Longhorns 11-10 in the final frame to earn the 63-18 final score win.

Kayanna Cox led THS with 27 points and teammate Tiyanna Dagley chipped in 14 points. McLeod was led by Chassie Gryder with 10 points.

The Lady Tigers will play Martin's Mill in the Region III semifinals at a 6 p.m. on Friday February 24 at Athens High School. Should they win they will next play in the Region III finals at noon in Athens on Saturday.

Joaquin Rams Gymnasium on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 –

The Tenaha Tigers and Joaquin Rams both finished their regular varsity basketball seasons at Joaquin Rams Gymnasium on Tuesday.

The Tigers never trailed, early on they built a 10-0 point lead and they led 15-8 midway through the first period. The Rams battled back to pull to within three points and THS led 26-23 at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers went on a 30-10 point run in the second frame and they took a 56-33 lead into the locker room at the midway break. Tenaha outpaced Joaquin 25-13 points in the third period on their way to the 97-61 win.

Tenaha was led by JT Steadman with 40 points, Ja’Tyrian Moore had 19, Kajavion Ross 14 and Charles Hervey had 10 points. Joaquin was led by Bennett Anglin with 17 points, Malik Stotts 15, Jeriko Newman 11, and Dylan Cloudy who added an amazing drive to the basket for 2 points in the waning moments of the game.

The Tigers are now 15-16 wins this season and they finished 6-6 in District 23 2A play. They will begin the Bi-District Playoffs and represent the conference as the fourth seed with a game with the Corrigan Camden Bulldogs at Wells High School on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. Corrigan-Camden is 25-3 this season and finished District 24 2A play with a perfect 12-0 mark.

Tenaha Special Events Center on Monday, February 13, 2023 –

The Timpson Lady Bears varsity basketball team took a 75-57 Bi-District win over the West Sabine Tigers and they will now advance to the UIL Area Round of the playoffs.

The Lady Bears hit four consecutive 3-point shots to open the contest with a 12-0 point lead. The Lady Bears led 16-6 at the midway point of the first period and they led 22-12 at the end of the first quarter. By halftime Timpson had a 50-27 advantage. The end of the third stanza saw THS leading 65-32, well on their way to gaining the 75-57 points win.

Timpson was led by D’Chelle Garner with 24 points. Natalie Johnson scored 19 and Cele Kruse added 10 points to the Lady Bears scoresheet. West Sabine was led by Isis Diaz with 23 and Makeh Wilson with 13 points.

Timpson has a 27-9 overall record and came into the playoffs as the second seed of District 23 2A. West Sabine came in as the third seed of District 24 2A.

Tenaha High School on Monday, February 13, 2023 –

The Tenaha Lady Tigers varsity basketball team won a UIL Bi-District Basketball Playoff over the visiting Broaddus Lady Bulldogs, by a 85-33 score on Monday. The win advances Tenaha on to the Area Round of the playoffs and they are awaiting scheduling for their next opponents.

The Lady Tigers never trailed and they had built a 12-5 points lead by the middle of the first stanza. THS led the Lady Bulldogs 24-9 by the end of the first quarter. They outpaced Broaddus 29-5 in the second period and led 53-14 at the midway break. Tenaha outscored Broaddus 16-4 in the third period on their way to ultimately sealing the 85-33 first-round win.

Tenaha is now 31-2 overall. They were led by sisters Kayanna Cox and Kaedynce Cox who each scored 24 points apiece. Teammate Christal Sparks had 12 points. Broaddus was led by Kaeli Yarbrough with 20 points.

The Lady Tigers came into the game as the top seed of District 23 2A and the Lady Bulldogs came in as fourth seed of District 24 2A.

 

Carthage Bulldogs Gymnasium on Friday, February 10, 2023 –

The Center Roughriders varsity basketball team never trailed at Carthage Friday and they took a 60-42 win over the Bulldogs. The game was Center’s District 17 4A finale and they now own at least a share of their conference title.

Center led Carthage 22-0 near the end of the first period but Bulldog Mikel Fields scored seconds before the buzzer which ended the quarter. Carthage outpaced Center 14 points to 11 in the second frame so the Roughriders carried a 33-16 lead into the locker room at the midway break.  Center led 40-22 midway through the third period and they took a 47-30 lead into the final period.

The Roughriders were led by Cash Cross with 22 points, Mar Mar Evans with 16 and Kedrin Hinson scored 11 points. Carthage was led by Mikel Fields with 13.

The win gives Center a 25-4 overall season record and a 11-1 District 17 mark. The Roughriders will now wait to see if Chapel Hill High School (10-1) wins over the Carthage Bulldogs next Tuesday, February 14 at Carthage, if Chapel Hill should win a district playoff would be needed to break the tie.

February 9, 2023 - It's playoff time Bear Nation as the Timpson Lady Bears prepare for round 1 of the 2023 AA State Basketball playoffs. The Lady Bears will face off with the West Sabine Lady Tigers Monday, February 13th at the Tenaha SEC. Tipoff is set for 6:00 PM. Let's pack the stands black and gold for our girls!
