July 7, 2022 - Texas Parks and Wildlife fishing reports are updated each week, usually by Thursday morning. The reports are compiled by an outside contractor who receives the information from bait shops, marinas and fishing guides. Only the local lakes are listed below. Toledo Bend

GOOD. Water stained; 80-82 degrees; 2.34 feet low. The water level is 169.6 with both generators running from 1-7:00 p.m. Water temperature at the dam is 80 degrees with surface temperature around 82. The back feeder creeks are clearing, and the main lake is clear with no rain again this week. Bass are biting early in the mornings as the sun rises on topwater baits like Pop Rs, buzz baits, popping frogs, and spooks. Switching mid-morning as the fish go deeper to 8-12 inch ribbon tail worms and crankbaits in 12-20 feet of water. Cast 8-12 inch dark colored worms on Texas or Carolina rig to entice a bigger bass to bite. Crappie, bream and yellow bass are in brush piles and lay downs in 15-25 feet of water. Crappie are biting best on live minnows or crappie jigs in T-Bend’s favorite colors like monkey milk, blue ice, T-shad. Catfish are off in the channels and breaks. The shallow bluegill bite has been spotty as the water is getting hotter. Summer is here with triple digit weather, so remember to wear light clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen.When on the water it is important to stay hydrated so that you do not experience heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Remember to always keep your life jacket on while on the water, and to fasten the engine kill switch lanyard to your person when operating a motorized vessel on the water. Play it safe on the water, always inform your loved ones or a friend of your expected return time to port or home. Good luck and tight lines! Sam Rayburn

GOOD. Water stained; 90 degrees; 2.80 feet low. Dock fishing is good for catfish, perch and a few bass. Bass are good early morning with topwaters over grass transitioning to points with soft plastics midday. White bass are good in the lake off points with chrome jigs. Crappie are good on brush piles with live minnows. Bluegill are mixed in with the crappie biting on worms. Catfish are in creek channels off ledges in 18 feet of water. Naconiche

GOOD. Water clear to stained; 89 degrees. The lake has settled into a typical summer pattern which will persist through the summer months. Good numbers of bass schooling over deeper water. Down-size your presentation to imitate shad size. Most fish are suspended just above the thermocline depth. So, count your lure down to the thermocline depth and keep it in the strike zone. A Mag-worm in Junebug color is getting bit in 8-12 feet of water. Try finding shade provided by standing timber or shoreline trees. The crappie population is good. Catfish are slow. Center City Baseball Park on Saturday, July 2, 2022 –

Dixie League Baseball Regional and State Tournament play is again underway at Center City Baseball Complex. Four tournaments are hosting more than 25 teams including teams from Center, EMC, Athens, Livingston, Henderson, Gilmer, Splendora, Onalaska, Pineland, Nacogdoches, Cleveland, Dayton, Bullard, Hudson, Huntington, Willis, Panola County, Howe, and Huffman. Some towns even had teams in more than one tourney.

The Center Roughriders were spotted leading EMC early Saturday morning and holding a 7-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning.  They were playing in the 2022 Dixie Jr. State Tournament and went on to win the game.

Other tournaments were: 2022 Texas 10U AAA Classic, 2022 Texas 10U Classic and the 2022 Texas AAA South Regional which included another Center ball team.

The tournament is scheduled to run from today, July 2 through July 4th but is currently experiencing delays due to inclement weather.

June 13, 2022 - The Center Tennis Association community tennis every Monday evening at 5:30pm at the high school courts, weather permitting. This is doubles play, pairing stronger players with weaker players, ages 9th grade and up.

Center Lions Club Ballpark on Sunday, June 26, 2022 –

The Joaquin Rams 6U Dixie League T-Ball team has reached the championship round of the Texas South Regional Division II T-Ball Baseball Tournament.

Joaquin has so far beaten Diboll, Tarkington and East Chambers to reach the finals. In the semifinal round Joaquin fell behind 7-0 runs to the E.C. Bucs but came back to claim a 13-8 lead in the middle stages. They then pulled away late for the win. The Rams once again will face Diboll in a rematch for the crown on Monday, June 27, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.

Forty teams have competed in four state and regional tournaments at Center Lions Club Ballpark since Saturday. Monday will see these teams conclude this round of elimination play.

May 26, 2022 - Center Tennis Association presents Free Tennis Clinics at Center HS Courts which is open to all Elementary age students!

What’s provided? Loaner racquets, tennis balls, snacks, and drinks.

Goals:

  • Introduce lifetime sport of TENNIS
  • Teach skills involved in tennis
  • Put newly learned skills into fun games and activities
  • Have guest instructors / speakers 

Session dates are June 13th - 16th and June 27th - 30th. Times are 8-9 year olds from 8am until 9:30am and 10-11 year olds from 9:30am until 11am.

Forty Texas Dixie League teams are participating in state and regional tournament elimination playoff games which started on Saturday. The games will continue through Monday, June 27,2022.

Today’s games saw Joaquin’s 6U Division II T-ball team beat Diboll to move on and play Tarkington on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

Center, the only other Shelby County team in this weekend’s T-ball tourneys faces Panola County at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday in a Division I T-ball South Regional game.

Other brackets on Saturday saw Panola T-Ball beat Bullard 27-21.  Livingston beat Hudson by a 13-2 score in a 9U State Tournament game.

Summer athletics have been spotted in progress at Center ISD despite high heated temperatures. Monday Shelby County Today was able to catch soccer and other athletic conditioning programs conducting summer workout sessions.

Hard physical work and technic drills were conducted in hopes of helping youth achieve a successful 2022-23 school year.

GOOD. Water stained; 76-78 degrees; 1.24 feet low. The water level is 170.8 with one generator running from 12-3:00 p.m. Water temperature at the dam is 76 degrees with surface temperature around 78. The back feeder creeks are stained with no current flow, and the thermocline is showing up on boat electronics at 14 feet. The main lake is clear with no rain this week. Bass are in the full summer patterns going to river bends and points. Early in the mornings as the sun comes up use top water baits like Pop Rs, buzz baits, popping frogs, and spooks. Mid-morning as the fish go deeper transition to 8-12 inch ribbon tail worms and crankbaits in 12-20 feet of water. This week we have the full strawberry moon, so we can fish all night with cooler temperatures.Cast 8-12 inch dark colored worms to entice a bigger bass to bite. Crappie and bream are in the brush piles and lay downs. Crappie are biting best on crappie jigs on the T-Bend favorite colors of monkey milk, T-shad in MGS and pie yow, and live minnows. Bluegill are good using live crickets, grasshoppers, and earthworms. Catfish continue to be slow this week due to the thermocline. Summer is here with air temperatures in the 90’s, so don’t forget to wear sun protection and gear. It is important to stay hydrated when on the water to avoid heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Bring the family out to explore the beautiful Toledo Bend on kayaks or canoes. Remember to always keep your life jacket on while on the water, and to fasten the engine kill switch lanyard to your life jacket, if you are operating a motorized vessel on the water. Some flipping bass shallow and in the grass with topwater frogs in the morning, moving to 15-18 feet off drops and ledges using Carolina rigs and crankbaits later in the day. White bass are good in the lake off points with chrome jigs. Crappie are good on brush piles and catfish are close by. Bluegill have started their game of hide and seek for the summer. Good numbers of post-spawn bass schooling up over deeper water. Most fish are suspended just above the thermocline depth, so count your lure down to 10-14 feet and keep it in the strike zone. A mag-worm in junebug color is getting bit in 8-12 feet of water. Try a square bill crankbait over the grass during the midday heat. Crappie population is good. Catfish are slow. Center ISD’s 2022 Lady Roughriders Basketball Skills Camp is now underway. The three-day event is kicked off with training for ladies grades 3rd thru 5th going from 9a.m.- 11a.m. and grades 6th thru 9th grade participating from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Ballhandling and conditioning was the theme of the activities seen kicking off Monday’s activities.
