August 6, 2019 - Whataburger in Center, Tx will be hosting a fundraiser Tuesday, August 6, 2019 from 5-8pm. 

They are going to donate 25% of sales to the Tenaha High School Football team. 

Support the Tenaha Tigers by dining in or going through the drive thru so they can raise enough money to purchase new equipment.

August 6, 2019 - The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors along with Susan Gaddy, owner of Vintage Junkie, will welcome Chamber members and the public to a "Business After Hours" event on Tuesday, August 6th, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 225 Tenaha Street.

Susan has expanded her store to allow more vendors with great lines to sell their inventory. There are fashionable and affordable ladies clothes, custom tee shirts, cute baby and children’s clothes, home decor and a new men’s personal care line, plus much more. Lines such as Kancan Jeans, BB Lila Jewelry and Oddi are available. Shop for custom signs from Sonflower Design and Southern Mess Crafts

Vintage Junkie is also the home of Java Junkie, now with a drive thru window! Enjoy a delicious hot or cold beverage while shopping!

There will be Sales and Door Prizes!

August 2, 2019 - Shelby County Outreach Ministries helps all of Shelby County by providing the programs to anyone in need. Anyone can come be a volunteer and help in their own special way. 

For the month of June 2019 programs offered by SCOM helped many people within Shelby County.

Helping Hands:

  • Emergency Food Boxes - 246
  • Needs Met - 282
  • People Fed - 524

Senior Site:

  • Congregate Meals - 490
  • Meals on Wheels - 721
  • Total Meals - 1,211

To help and get involved here are some ways to do so:

  • Food of the Month - Peanut Butter, Canned Meats, Ramen Noodle Soup, and Mac & Cheese. Please bring food items to the Helping Hands Outreach Center at 930 Shelbyville Street.
  • Volunteer Opportunities - Volunteers are needed in each of the programs. 
  • Canned Food Drives - We are always in the need of canned goods. If an individual or a business would like to have a food drive, contact for additional information.

August 1, 2019 - Center 10U Youth AAA Dixie Boys won the State Championship and now are on their way to the Dixie Youth World Series in Ruston, Louisiana. They will be playing against 10 other State Championship teams on August 3rd-8th. Click here to see photos of the players and team that was submitted by Denise Matthews.

July 31, 2019 - The Poultry Festival is coming October 3rd, 4th, and 5th to Shelby County and early bird registration is going on now! The 2019 East Texas Poultry Festival sponsored by Farmers State Bank is accepting applications for Arts and Crafts booths, Creative Art Show, Quilt Show and Car Show. Also, registration for the Chicken Trot 5K Run/Walk race is now open on runsignup.com.

July 31, 2019 - Grace Manor is hosting a school supply drive to benefit foster children in the Shelby County and Nacogdoches County areas. We are accepting donations until August 1. School supplies for all ages and grades are needed.

July 31, 2019 - Attending the Delta Kappa Gamma, Alpha State Convention in Arlington were local Delta Gamma members - President Wendy Watson, State Photographer Carol McMillan, Archive chairman Fannie Watson and Second Vice President Nora Robinson. There were approximately 850 members from all over the state present for workshops, luncheons, necrology service, and ending with the 90th Alpha State Banquet. Mrs. Fannie Watson was honored in the convention program by Delta Gamma for her many years of service, inspiration, friendship, and mentoring.

July 30, 2019 - Any City of Center trash pickup for Tuesday, July 30th that was missed will be picked up on Wednesday, July 31st.

BBQ Chicken Plate Fundraiser will take place on July 30th on the North Side of the Center Square. Plates are $10 and are available for pick-up or delivery for order 10 or more. Contact: Coach Robby Dubea at (936)-488-9979, Coach Brian Horton at (936)-332-0738, or any parent to preorder.

Plates will include: Leg Quarters, Baked Beans, Potato Salad, a drink and Dessert prepared by the Shelby County Cookers. 

The team, coaches, and parents extend a heartfelt thank you to the community for such a strong support for the boys and continuing that support. Go Riders!

July 29, 2019 - The Texas A&M Agrilife County Extension Office will be hosting the annual Poultry Festival Boiler Show Workshop Monday, July 29th from 6-8pm at 266 Nacogdoches, St. (Old Elementary School Library Building). Participants will learn about chick maintenance, feeding, how to construct a pen, and much more. This is a free program and open to anyone. If anyone has any questions call the Extension Office at (936)-598-7744
