November 28, 2018 - Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library would like to thank the William Crawford Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and the Texas Book Festival (#txbookfest) for making yesterday's Genealogy Workshop: Climbing Your Family Tree, such a wonderful success! We had a great turnout and learned so much from the women who came to teach and share at the workshop.

Another big thank you to the people at the Texas Book Festival. Without the funds provided by them through a grant, we would not have been able to purchase books to update many sections of our nonfiction area, including the Genealogy section!

November 28, 2018 - Shelby County employees worked to bring Christmas cheer to the courthouse on Wednesday, November 28th. Santa's helpers were District Clerk Lori Oliver, Tara Jones, Shelley Murphree, Nicol Shedd, Angela Walling, Judge Allison Harbison, and Officer Kevin Gratehouse. The tree was donated by Dellinger's Christmas Store.
November 27, 2018 - Today is #GivingTuesday, which is day set aside for donating and giving back to charities and your community. November 26, 2018 - Mathews Real Estate invites everyone to come out to Holiday on Foster today, November 26th starting at 5:30pm for a great time and a great cause! Bring the kids out to visit and a picture with Santa Clause and visit with a Center Police officer who is helping with Operation Blue Santa. Instead of Santa giving out gifts, Santa will be asking for toy donations for Blue Santa. The Center Police Department officer will have a Patrol unit ready for kids to see the lights and hear the sirens.
Holiday on Foster will include local vendors having a Christmas Bazaar with lots of gifts for the entire family! Face painting for the kids is $5 each and enjoy hot cocoa as well as door prizes offered by the vendors.
Holiday on Foster is hosted by Elite Hair Design, Hope Community Medicine, Lasting Impressions, Mathews Real Estate, and Pineywoods Beverage. Vendor booths will include Barnwood Divas, Boom Boom Photo Booth, CaJewel, Damsel in Distress, Gram's Kitchen, Hughes Florist and Gifts, Payne & Payne Home N'Suchlike, Perfectly Posh by Krista, Sandy Fuller, Sister Sage, Snell Photography, and Younique by Jana C. Keele.
November 26, 2018 (Blue Santa Form) - The Center Police Department Ladies Auxiliary has donated a Beautiful lighted Christmas wreath for Operation Blue Santa to use to raise funds for the Toy drive. Raffle Tickets will be sold for $1 each, and will be drawn on December 9th during Cookies & Cocoa with Santa. Please come by the Center PD to purchase your tickets. We will also have the wreath and tickets available tonight at Holiday on Foster!
Don’t forget about the Toy Drive RAFFLE DRAWING! Bring in a Toy to the Center Police Department and be entered into a drawing for a Christmas Movie Package: 32 inch Smart TV, DVD player, Popcorn, Cocoa, Cozy Blanket, and a Christmas movie set. One entry per person, one entry per day! Please bring in a New in package toy, Boy or Girl or all Ages! Drawing to be held on December 9th at the close of Cookies & Cocoa with Santa! Get your picture taken with Santa that day also!

If you would like to donate new toys, clothing, hygiene items please bring them to the Center Police Dept. Boys and girls of all ages will be needed, infant to 15yrs old. The entire Blue Santa team would like to thank everyone for your generous donation to the Blue Santa program. November 26, 2018 - Tis the season of giving and many of the kids attending the showing of "The Grinch" at the RIO Theatre on Friday night received an early Christmas gift thanks to the generosity of Old Salem Missionary Baptist Church.
After hearing Nita Adkison advise families of the unexpected gift as parents were paying for their movie tickets, Shelby County Today inquired with Nita who responded, "Old Salem Missionary Baptist Church called today and they donated $500 to give for children's tickets tonight." She advised the money provided tickets for 84 kids!
Nita said, "Everybody that came up, until those tickets were gone, they only had to buy adult tickets and it was so exciting... (Old Salem MBC) just wanted to spread some Christmas cheer. Isn't that awesome!"
The RIO Theatre had a full house on Friday night and was thankful to see all the families; however, they regretted having to post a SOLD OUT sign. "The Grinch" will be showing through Tuesday, November 27th.
November 26, 2018 - The Piney Woods Photographic Society held their regular monthly meeting this past Saturday, November 17, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Center, Tx. The monthly challenge "Seasons"showed some awesome photography done by members; along with a workshop on "Photographing Family Holidays" presented by Billie Jones. The next meeting will be the third Saturday in December, at the First United Methodist Church, on Porter St. in Center, Tx. from 9 a.m.- 12 p.m. There will be an informal meet and greet at the December meeting with refreshment and of course "camera talk". Visitors are always welcome, anyone interested in photography, whether it be very beginning or more advanced is invited to attend and share knowledge with each other. November 23, 2018 - Operation Blue Santa drew on Thanksgiving Day and announced the winner of the Savage Trophy Hunter 6.5 Creedmoor with Nikon Scope to be Billy Neal of Center. Proceeds from the raffle go to Operation Blue Santa and delivering toys to kids for Christmas.

November 23, 2018 - The Golden Harvest Ministries Club members collected toys, stuffed animals, and made money donations to the Shelby County Advocacy Center at their November 19 meeting. Anna Register made a slide presentation on updates and progress at the Center.

November 20, 2018 - Shelby County Outreach Ministries, Inc. is having our annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner! This will be on Thanksgiving Day, November 22nd, 2018 at the Senior Nutrition Site.
