June 28, 2016 - To provide education for first responders in Shelby County relating to heart patients, Nacogdoches Medical Center and Dr. Gary A. Barkocy, DO, Cardiologist were at the Shelby County courthouse on Tuesday, June 27, 2016 to meet with local emergency personnel.

Dr. Barkocy explained that Nacogdoches Medical Center meets with EMS squads, because they will be the first to provide a medical response to the patient.

"We do a lot of this stuff with education with EMS squads all the way in because it all starts in the field. These heart attack people, these are the first ones that get to see them and all, so we're encouraging them to move quickly and safely and all that kind of stuff, and we're teaching them different things to either get to the Center ER or the Nacogdoches ER where we have the cath labs open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It's all about speed," said Dr. Barkocy.
