August 20, 2024 - The Adult Protective Services Advisory Board is hosting a Mum Fundraiser. Mums sell for $20 and will be delivered week of September 16-23. All proceeds go towards helping stock the SilverStar Room and needed supplies, assist with elderly/disabled programs, and public awareness events. August 15, 2024 - The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce a community fundraiser to purchase a 20-foot artificial, pre-lit Panel Christmas Tree, with ornaments and a star. This tree will be erected in front of the 1885 Historic Courthouse where a tree lighting ceremony will be hosted each year. The chamber invites you to become a valued Sponsor of our Community Christmas Tree.
Your support will help start a new tradition and contribute to the joy and togetherness of the holiday season.

August 14, 2024 - Three local students have earned degrees from the University of Texas at Tyler. The University of Texas at Tyler will recognize summer 2024 degree candidates during Summer 2024 Commencement on August 17 in the UT Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center.
Meagan Burns earned a Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner and Jennifer Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Their commencement ceremony will be held at 9am on Saturday, August 17.
Brant Redmon earned a Bachelor of Science, Tech-Industrial Technology and his commencement ceremony will be held at 1pm on Saturday, August 17.

August 7, 2024 - The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department hosted a “School Safety Meeting” at the Shelby County Extension office Wednesday, August 7, 2024 in Center.
Representatives were present from law enforcement, fire departments, medical staff and schools.
With the school year quickly approaching, all agencies are taking proactive measures to ensure they are prepared to address any issue.

Shelby County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Chad Hooper shared that these meetings are required by law to be held twice a year, and those required to be included are: the county sheriff, or designee; municipal police chief, or designee; all constables, or designees; school district chief of police or each school district security coordinator; DPS representative; all other state agencies, county representatives; county EMS command staff; municipal EMS command staff; county fire department command staff; each school district superintendent or designee; each open enrollment charter district superintendent, or designee; and all others considered appropriate by the sheriff, also a federal law enforcement officer serving the county.
Chief Hooper shared that school safety and active shooter plans are a lot of what they cover in these meetings including planning and strategy. He also states the school districts are required to hold meeting as well.
“This gets us all in one spot, everybody can communicate about our needs, our wants, vulnerabilities and things like that,” said Chief Hooper.

Sheriff Kevin Windham appreciates everyone taking time out of their day to attend this meeting.
August 7, 2024 - Applications for the Leadership Shelby County 2024-2025 Class are due this Friday, August 9th by 4pm at the Chamber office. Applicants will be notified by Friday, August 16, 2024 following the selection process, as space is limited.

August 4, 2024 - Boss Lady Bakery celebrated it’s grand opening with a ribbon cutting event on Saturday, August 3, 2024.
The Timpson Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed the new business and area residents were present for the delicious event.
Boss Lady Bakery owner, Rachel Edwards, said they offer custom cakes, pastries, and large pies to order and bread as everything is made from scratch.


Jalapeño Cheddar Bread is one of the many baked options available at Boss Lady Bakery.
Edwards says, “if you can bake it, I can make it!”
Boss Lady Bakery also invites special orders, if a customer would like they can bring in a family recipe and she can try and replicate it for them.
The location also offers a comfortable meeting environment with self serve coffee. Parties can also be scheduled on Saturdays and packages are available and customizable.

“Each kid can get a cupcake to decorate, or a cookie, or a personal cake, whichever package they like,” said Edwards.
During the event, Boss Lady Bakery hosted a Bike Show and several motorcycles were featured and awards were presented for People’s Choice, Judge’s Choice and Best Looking Club.
The winner of the People’s Choice Award was W. Dee Daniels; Judge’s Choice Award was presented to Joshua James and the Best Looking Club went to The Looney Toons.

Boss Lady Bakery is open Tuesday through Friday from 7am until sold out and is located on the Timpson square on Jacob Street.

HOPE will have 3 booths offering CPR education, FREE blood pressure checks with a medical professional, proper medication disposal, and behavioral health tips and info!

August 1, 2024 - Amanda Woods, from Shelbyville, Texas, achieved Dean’s List honors during the 2024 Spring Semester at St. Cloud State University, Minnesota. She is attending the College of Health and Wellness Professions to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
St. Cloud State University has announced the names of more than 960 students whose academic achievement placed them on the 2024 Spring semester dean's list. To be eligible for the honor, students must have a grade point average of 3.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
St. Cloud State University is Minnesota's second-largest university, with more than 10,000 students from our regional communities, area states, and 90 different nations. Students choose from more than 60 graduate study programs and more than 200 majors, minors and pre-professional programs that hold nearly every available national accreditation.
