March 25, 2019 - Americans consider themselves to be a compassionate people, and the United States military has a long tradition of humanitarian relief operations both within and outside the continental United States. Never has this humanitarian impulse proven more dangerous to follow than in 1992 when the United States intervened to arrest famine in the midst of an ongoing civil war in the East African country of Somalia.

February 25, 2019 - President George H. W. Bush announced the start of what would be called Operation Desert Storm on January 16, 1991, a military operation of coalition forces from 34 nations to expel occupying Iraqi forces from Kuwait, which Iraq had invaded and annexed months earlier.

When the war ended on February 28th, 1991, 148 Americans had died in battle.

January 25, 2019 - As we once again plan our Memorial Day program that will happen on Monday, May 27, 2019 we would like to collect as many photos of those from Shelby County who died during a time of war that are available.  We honor those who were killed in action as well as those who died of other causes such as accidents and disease who are native from Shelby County or are now buried here. 

January 1, 2019 - Flags that have been at half staff for the past 30 days (November 30 - December 30) in honor of the passing of President Bush should now be raised.

December 2, 2018 - In honor and tribute to the memory of President George H.W. Bush and as an expression of public sorrow, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation ordering the flag of the United States to be displayed at half-staff from now until sunset on December 30, 2018.
