David's Daily Devotion for August 16

August 16, 2024 - Good Afternoon! It's Friday, August 16.

My devotional is a little late going out today. I attended a memorial service this morning for Jane Morrison. Miss Jane was the matriarch of her fine family, a cherished member of my church, and a pillar of the community. She was one of those from the "greatest generation". There are few of them left. It was an honor to honor her this morning.

In Cologne, Germany, there stands a magnificent Gothic cathedral. It is the number one tourist attraction of that large city, attracting more than six million tourists each year. It boasts distinctive twin steeples, or spires, that rise over 500 feet above the ground. That makes it the highest structure of its kind in the world. And on this day, August 15, in the year 1248, the cornerstone of the Cologne Cathedral was laid.

School starts back tomorrow here in Center, Texas. Children and teenagers are making all those last-minute preparations for the big day. But teachers have been preparing for weeks. And yesterday, at First Baptist Center, we took a moment to recognize, encourage, and pray for our educators. It was our honor to honor them. As school bells are about to ring, here's some thoughts about teachers.

*It takes a big heart to shape little minds.

August 9, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Friday, August 9.

Well, it's the end of a long week - so I'm going to keep it light today. Do you know what "Dad Jokes" are? Of course you do. They're those corny, punny one-liners that dads and granddads (of which I am proudly both) like to tell their kids and grandkids. The typical responses of groans and eye rolls just add to the fun. So, here's some Dad Jokes... for church!

David's Daily Devotion for August 8

August 8, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Thursday, August 8.

This coming Sunday morning, here at First Baptist Center, Texas, we'll begin our service with a worship song called "Lord, I Lift Your Name on High." You're probably familiar with it, it's been around for 35 years now, and that's a long time for a contemporary Christian song. It was written by a man named Rick Founds - a man who was ahead of his time.
