One of my favorite hymn writers was born on this day in 1826. His name was Robert Lowry. Heard of him? Maybe not. But you've certainly heard of his hymns. He wrote more than 500 of them. Here's just a few -
*All the Way My Savior Leads Me
*Low in the Grave He Lay
*I Need Thee Every Hour
*We're Marching to Zion
*Shall We Gather at the River
*Nothing But the Blood
March 11, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Monday, March 11.
Isn't it a wonderful season right now? The season of wildflowers, sunlit evenings, St. Patrick's Day, Easter Sunday? Well, there's another season happening, too - the Celebrity Awards season. Every other weekend we get another one - the Emmys, the Tonys, the Grammys, the Golden Globes, just to name a few. And last night, the biggest one of all, the Academy Awards, the Oscars.
March 8, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Friday, March 8.
This morning I'm thinking of the name Edwin Hubble. On this day in 1935, this astronomer produced photographs that proved a startling discovery. Before that time, most people thought that the universe was made up only of our galaxy, the Milky Way. But Hubble showed the world that there were as many other galaxies as there were stars in our own - billions. In 1990, when NASA launched its first space telescope, they gave it the name Hubble.
March 7, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Thursday, March 7.
This Saturday, March 9, First Baptist Center will welcome women from around East Texas to our annual Women's Conference. It's free, and you can register and find more info at fbccenter.org.

March 6, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, March 6.
In April of 1962, President John F. Kennedy hosted a dinner at the White House. In attendance were 49 Nobel Prize winners. Robert Oppenheimer was there, too. And when JFK rose to speak, he began with these words -
"I think that this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered at the White House - with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."
March 5, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, March 5.
What's in a name? Even if you're not a pianist, when you hear the name "Steinway", you think "greatness".
On this day in 1853, Heinrich Steinweg (he later changed his name to Henry Steinway) opened a piano factory in New York City - and it's still there today. Over 90% of concert halls and music schools around the world have Steinway pianos. We're blessed to have one at First Baptist Center.
Welcome to March, a month that serves as a symbol of newness, of beginnings, of rebirth. Old Man Winter is on his last legs, and the child of Spring is awakening.
Happy Birthday to all the March 1 babies. Here's five from the world of music -

*Glenn Miller, big band leader
*Harry Belafonte, calypso singer
*Roger Daltery, lead singer of The Who
*Justin Bieber, pop star
February 29, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Thursday, February 29!
I've been sending out these little thoughts for almost four years now, but today is a first. When I began, in late March 2020 (with the pandemic shut-down), it was a Leap Year. And so, this is my first Leap Day devotional!
February 28, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, February 28.
We're on the threshold of a new month, my favorite month here in Texas - March. And this year, March not only features the first day of Spring, but also those three great church calendar days - Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and Easter. I'm looking forward to March.
February 27, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, February 27.
On February 27, 1968, America heard a voice, a powerful voice, a voice that we could trust. Walter Cronkite, on his nightly news broadcast, said these words about the Vietnam War.
"It is increasingly clear to this reporter that the only rational way out of this war is to negotiate, not as victors, but as an honorable people who lived up to their pledge to defend democracy, and did the best they could."
