City of Center Extends Declaration of Local State of Disaster to 30 Days

March 31, 2020 - During Monday's City of Center Council meeting, the City Council took action on continuation and renewal of Declaration of Local State of Disaster due to Public Health Emergency by extending the March 27th signed Local State of Disaster to be effective for 30 days.

The declaration activates the city's emergency management plan and authorizes the furnishing of aid and assistance under the declaration; and it alters access to public facilities.

TX Governor Issues Executive Order GA-12 Restricting Travel into Texas

March 29, 2020 - Texas Governor Gregg Abbott issued an executive order, GA 12, on March 29, 2020. The order relates to roadway screening and self-quarantine during the COVID-19 disaster on a statewide basis effective at noon on March 30, 2020.

Early Voting Preliminary Totals: 2,275 Ballots Cast!

February 28, 2020 - Early voting has ended in the 2020 Primary Election and 2,275 Shelby County residents cast ballots at the end of voting on Friday which surpassed the total number of early voting turnout in 2016 of 1,676 by 599 voters!

Bad weather is forecast for Tuesday, March 3rd election day according to the National Weather Service. Tuesday's forecast is showers and possibly a thunderstorm with a high near 73 and chance of precipitation is 80%.

Shooter Incident Leads to One Arrest; No Active Shooter Incident Reported (Update)

Update - The suspect provided law enforcement with incorrect identification and will be receiving an additional charge of Failure to Identify.  The suspect is actually Jeremy Wade, age 30.


January 28, 2020 - The Center Police Department received a call Tuesday, January 28th for shots fired on Carroll Street around 10am.
