Area Residents Spot Suspicious Night Flying Aircraft

January 5, 2020 - A number of night flying aircraft flew over the Shelby County area Sunday, January 5, 2020 with a number of witnesses.

U.S. 84 Outside Timpson Scene of Major Crash

January 3, 2020 - U.S. Highway 84 outside of Timpson was the location of a major single-vehicle crash January 1, 2020.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Jonathan Stinson, at 10:20am a white 2016 Volvo SUV driven by Jared Wiggins, 22, of Timpson was westbound on U.S. Highway 84 at an unsafe speed.

Wiggins failed to drive in a single lane and traveled off the westbound shoulder. The Volvo continued westbound and vaulted across a culvert 113 feet and rolled several times before coming to rest against a tree on its right and top.

SH 7, CR 1245 Scene of Two-Vehicle Crash

January 2, 2020 - State Highway 7 in the Aiken Community was the scene of a two-vehicle crash December 28, 2019, which resulted in injury to one driver involved.

Grand Jury Indicts County Attorney on Year Old Charge

December 19, 2019 - Gary Rholes, Shelby County Attorney, was arrested on a charge of reckless driving, misdemeanor b, Thursday, December 19, 2019. He was booked in at the Shelby County Jail at 9:45am and was bonded out on a $2,500 bond.

The charge stems from an incident which took place one year ago.

House Fire Claims Life of Man in Oakdale Community

December 17, 2019 - A Shelby County man lost his life in a structure fire in the Oakdale Community, as reported by authorities.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff's Department, at 9:45am Sunday, December 15, 2019, the Sheriff's Department was notified of a structure fire with a possible fatality involved.

Deputy Jake Gross was dispatched to the location of the home on County Road 2625 in the Oakdale Community and when he arrived a fatality was confirmed. Family members identified the individual as being Bobby Joe Cartwright.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Procession 2019

December 17, 2019 - St. Therese Catholic Church in Center had their annual Lady of Guadalupe Procession Sunday, December 8, 2019.

Before the procession began, participant gathered on the Center square where prayer was given previous to the beginning of the procession.
