October 16, 2019 - October 18th is Recognition of Women in Service Day. This year Shelby County Memorial VFW Post 8904 and Auxiliary honor US Navy Veteran Dell Grant. She will be honored on Friday, October 18, 2019, 10:00 a.m. at Holiday Nursing Home, Center, Texas. As always the public is invited.
September 9, 2019 - The Flag of the United States is to be flown at half staff in honor of Patriot Day, Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from sunrise to sunset in memory of those killed in the attacks on this day, 2001.
All flags flying with the US Flag should also be lowered. If you have a flag that cannot be lowered respect for the day can be displayed by tying a black ribbon or chord at the top of the flag staff.

June 24, 2019 - Of the 16 million men and women who served in World War II there are less than 500,000 alive today with 348 passing each day. The average age of the WW II Veteran is approximately 93 with the last of America’s “Greatest Generation” to be gone in the next 25 years.
May 20, 2019 - Officers for the year 2019 – 2020 of Shelby County Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8904 Auxiliary were installed at their monthly meeting on Saturday, May 18.
January 21, 2019 - The Paris Peace Accord ending the Vietnam War was signed on January 27, 1973, and was followed by the withdrawal of the remaining American troops. The terms of the accord called for a complete ceasefire in South Vietnam, allowed North Vietnamese forces to retain the territory they had captured, release of US prisoners of war, and called for both sides to find a political solution to the conflict.
November 29, 2018 (entry form) - If you received a Purple Heart for being wounded in Vietnam, you could be one of nine lucky veterans to win VFW’s “Return to Vietnam” trip. This in-country tour from April 25 - May 8, 2019, will include Hanoi, Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), the DMZ, Khe Sanh, Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An, Marble Mountain, Cu Chi and Tay Ninh.
November 7, 2018 - In honor of the 100th Anniversary that ended World War I the public is cordially invited to join Shelby County Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8904 and Auxiliary at their Veteran’s Day Program in remembrance of those from Shelby County who so honorably served during that time. The program will be held Sunday, November 11, 2018, 1 p.m. inside the 1885 Shelby County Historic Courthouse, Center, Texas. You are encouraged to bring children and grandchildren to this historic and once in a lifetime event.
September 21, 2018 - The United States’ National POW/MIA Recognition Day is observed across the nation on the third Friday of September each year. Americans take the time to remember those who are or were at one time prisoners of war (POW) and those who are still missing in action (MIA), as well as their families. National POW/MIA Recognition Day is not a federal public holiday in the United States but it is a national observance.
