October 14, 2020 – Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO), an American Electric Power (Nasdaq: AEP) company, has submitted a request to the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) for a net annual increase of $90.2 million in the company’s non-fuel base rates. On a total customer bill basis, the net increase is approximately 15.6%.

If approved, new rates would likely go into effect in the first billing cycle of January 2022.

September 15, 2020 - Sixty-three employees of Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO), an AEP company, are heading to Pensacola Beach, Fla., in preparation for Hurricane Sally. Gulf Power has asked for assistance from SWEPCO crews after the hurricane makes landfall.

August 27, 2020 – The intense winds and driving rains of Hurricane Laura shoved trees, utility poles and wires to the ground, leaving 94% of Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) customers in eight central Louisiana parishes without power.

At 5 p.m. today, with restoration in progress, 41,000 customers in DeSoto, Bienville, Grant, Natchitoches, Red River, Sabine, Winn and Vernon parishes remained without power.

In total, approximately 128,000 customers were without power, including 79,000 in the Shreveport-Bossier area, 8,100 in Texas and 400 in Arkansas.

August 25, 2020 – As Hurricane Laura approaches, Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) advises customers to prepare now for the storm. Customers who are on life support systems or need uninterrupted electric service for health reasons should make alternate arrangements in preparation for potential power outages. 

April 15, 2020 (1 p.m. Wednesday) - SWEPCO One Voice #6 = Easter Sunday Storms

At 1 p.m. Wednesday, approximately 4,600 customers in East Texas remain without power after three waves of severe storms swept across SWEPCO’s three-state service territory on Easter Sunday. At the peak, 64,000 customers were without power.
