April 13, 2020 - At 10:30 a.m. Monday, approximately 45,300 customers remain without power after three waves of severe storms with high winds and lightning swept across SWEPCO’s service territory on Easter Sunday.
The outages include 31,200 in Texas, 12,300 in Louisiana and 1,800 in Arkansas.
March 26, 2020 – The American Electric Power Foundation has announced $42,000 in emergency funding for an East Texas nonprofit impacted by COVID-19 in Southwestern Electric Power Co’s (SWEPCO) service area.
March 16, 2020 – Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO), an American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) company, has reached a settlement agreement with all parties, including the Louisiana Public Service Commission (LPSC) Staff, the Alliance for Affordable Energy and Walmart, Inc., regarding SWEPCO’s proposal to add 810 megawatts (MW) of wind energy.
The settlement agreement is subject to final approval by the LPSC following the submission of testimony and a settlement hearing.
March 5, 2020 – Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) has received reports of individuals posing as SWEPCO representatives contacting East Texas customers and demanding immediate payment.

January 24, 2020 - Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO), an American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) company, has reached a settlement agreement with the Arkansas Public Service Commission (APSC) General Staff, the Office of Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge and Walmart, Inc. regarding SWEPCO’s proposal to add 810 megawatts (MW) of wind energy.
The unanimous settlement agreement, filed Jan. 24, 2020, seeks final APSC approval for SWEPCO’s proposed purchase of three wind generation facilities in Oklahoma.
January 11, 2020 - SWEPCO employees and contract crews have restored power to more than half of its customers in the Ark-La-Tex who lost power after overnight storms broke utility poles, downed wires and felled trees.
At the peak, about 29,300 customers were without power.
As of 3 p.m. Saturday, approximately 12,500 customers remained without power. SWEPCO is working as quickly and safely as possible to restore power to about 9,800 customers in Louisiana and 2,700 customers in Texas. Power is expected to be restored to all Arkansas customers by 4 p.m. today.
January 9, 2020 – Employees of Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO), an American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) company, are standing ready to respond to winter storms, and 150 additional field personnel have been called to the area.
A powerful storm system capable of producing winds of up to 60 mph is forecast to move across the Ark-La-Tex late Friday and early Saturday. Through its network of mutual aid, SWEPCO has 150 utility workers from Ft. Worth, Abilene and Austin, Texas to assist with power restoration.
November 19, 2019 Shreveport – Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO), an American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) company, will join Utilities United Against Scams (UUAS) to recognize the fourth annual Utility Scam Awareness Day on Wednesday, November 20. Utility Scam Awareness Day is part of the week-long National Scam Awareness Week, an advocacy and awareness campaign focused on educating customers and exposing the tactics used by scammers. This year’s theme is “It Happened to Me, Don’t Let it Happen to You.”
Updated - SWEPCO expects to restore power tonight to all East Texas customers affected by outages that began Sunday afternoon.
“We’re methodically energizing our substations to ensure we can restore power to all customers tonight,” said Gary Guin, SWEPCO Director of Risk & Reliability. “The SWEPCO team appreciates our customers’ patience.”
Customers who have turned off their air conditioners and appliances may turn them on again. SWEPCO has resolved voltage problems experienced earlier today.
