May 21, 2025 - With Memorial Day and the launch of summer on the horizon, Texans across the state will spend time on the water for fun and recreation. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) urges boaters and paddlers who enjoy the waterways to do their part to protect the Texas lakes we love from aquatic invasive species.
May 16, 2025 - Texas experienced an increase in hunting accidents with last year, with 18 non-fatal hunting accidents and one fatality reported in the 2024 Texas Hunting Accident Report.
March 19, 2025 – Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD)’s Inland Fisheries Division stocked nearly 27 million fish comprising 17 different species, sub-species or hybrids in Texas public freshwaters during 2024.
Roughly 7.9 million of these were stocked in rivers, ponds, and lakes associated with 50 state parks.
TPWD actively stocks waterbodies throughout Texas to enhance sportfishing opportunities. Its multifaceted statewide stocking program tailors fish stockings to individual waterbodies, with more than 400 unique waterbodies stocked annually.
February 13, 2025 – Heavy fall rain will mean anglers in east Texas should enjoy prime white bass fishing this spring, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) biologists predict, while results could be spottier in central and south Texas.
February 3, 2025 – The 2024 Toyota ShareLunker season reached new heights thanks to 371 anglers who entered a record 689 lunker largemouth bass into the program throughout the year from 89 Texas public waterbodies.

January 27, 2025 - The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approved more than $30.9 million in local park grants, a new record, to help create and enhance outdoor recreational opportunities.
January 14, 2025 — The Texas Hill Country is about to get more “enchanting” thanks to the recent purchase of a 3,073-acre property adjacent to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area in Llano County. This property will double the amount of publicly available land at one of Texas’ most popular state parks.
December 23, 2024 — The National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) confirmed the presence of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in multiple locations throughout the state. Disease experts indicate that HPAI is circulating among wild birds in Texas as waterbirds and waterfowl are on their wintering grounds.
Most recent detections have been found in Wharton, Galveston, and Harris counties.
