March 22, 2024 — Registration remains open until April 1 for those wishing to join more than 1,000 birders who will flock to the coast, forests, prairies and mountains of Texas to compete in the nation’s biggest, longest and wildest bird watching tournament.
March 21, 2024 – Less than a month remains until the highly anticipated total eclipse adorns Texas skies. On April 8, a total eclipse will shade 31 Texas state parks along the path of totality.
March 14, 2024 — Texas recorded a new all-time low number of hunting-related accidents across the state, according to the 2023 Texas Hunting Accident Report.
A new record low of 10 non-fatal hunting-related accidents and one fatality were reported in 2023. Texas’ highest record to date occurred in 1972 when the state saw 30 fatal hunting-related accidents. The staggering numbers recorded every year showed the need for more firearm safety, which led to the creation of the Hunter Education program.
February 27, 2024 - The annual white bass run, a treasured tradition for anglers across Texas, has officially begun.
Each spring, white bass run upstream from reservoirs into rivers and creeks to spawn, creating prime fishing opportunities for new and seasoned anglers. White bass can be targeted from the bank, motorized boat or paddle craft in multiple publicly accessible locations throughout the state.
Promotes Initiatives to Prevent Harmful, Non-Native Plants and Wildlife
February 23, 2024 – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) encourages Texans to take action against invasive species that negatively impact the state’s natural resources and economy. National Invasive Species Awareness Week (NISAW), scheduled for February 26 – March 3, is an initiative to raise awareness of the threats and provide solutions on how to prevent the spread of invasive species.

October 27, 2023 — Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) biologists expect deer hunters statewide to have plenty of opportunities to fill freezers this season thanks to widespread, improved habitat conditions.
October 20, 2023 - Next week, Texans will have an opportunity to head to their local voting centers and cast their ballots on several constitutional amendments, including Proposition 14. If adopted, Prop 14 would create the Centennial Parks Conservation Fund, allocating $1 billion from state government surplus to acquire and develop new state parks across Texas.
The Centennial Parks Conservation Fund would not create a new tax for Texans and, if passed, would be the largest investment in parks in our state’s history.
