March 26, 2017 - State Highway 7 West was the scene of a major two-vehicle crash Friday, March 23, 2018 that sent two people involved to a hospital in Shreveport.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the location at the intersection of FM 711 where a pickup truck and a trailer remained in the middle of the roadway on the eastbound side. Center Firemen and ACE EMS personnel worked to safely extricate the driver and passenger of the truck. Firemen utilized Jaws of Life equipment to gain access to the vehicle.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Jesse Fountain, at 11:45am a black 1993 Dodge Dakota pickup truck driven by Nicholas Brewer, 30, of Nacogdoches was eastbound on State Highway 7 (SH 7). At that time a black 2008 Dodge driven by Leonel Perez-Romero was westbound on SH 7 and failed to yield right of way when turning onto FM 711 in front of the Dodge Dakota.
This caused the Dakota to collide with the trailer being hauled by Perez-Romero which had a forklift, portable toilet and other chicken house equipment onboard. The collision caused the trailer to detatch from the 2008 Dodge and remain in the outside eastbound lane with damage. The Dodge Dakota came to a halt with major damage in the inside eastbound traffic lane.
No damage was received of the 2008 Dodge other than the trailer hitch being separated from the trailer.
Brewer and his passenger, Victoria Santos, were both flown by Life Air Rescue to LSU hospital in Shreveport.
Perez Romero and his passenger, Jose Pedro Perez-Cuevas, were not reported to have received any injury from the crash.
Perez-Romero was issued citations for no driver's license and failure to yield right of way.

March 23, 2018 - Cade Foehner, a Shelby County musician, auditioned in New Orleans with his family by his side and he will appear on American Idol on Monday, March 26th.
In an interview with Shelby County Today, Foehner spoke about his audition in New Orleans for the celebrity judge round where he performed 'She Talks to Angels' by the Black Crowes. Foehner said, "That was one of the first songs I sang in front of people, so it was something I felt like I wanted to do. It's a good singing song in general." "It was a long day. I got there at 7am and I was like some of the first people there so I thought this is promising and then I was one of the last people to go in. I think there were two people after me that night."
He spoke about the judges, "They were very pretty. They are good looking people, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Lionel is the smoothest guy in the world you will ever meet; he just floats in the room. And Katy Perry is very, very pretty; she is like striking and has good features. Luke Bryan is just a good ole boy; he's hilarious, he is hilarious. But they are all just super nice and very constructive and very wise, obviously, because they have been doing it a long time."
Foehner described the day as sitting around watching people come in and they are crying because they are devastated or because they are super happy. "It just makes you psyched out to watch every single person go. It was nerve racking. I kind of got to the point during the day where I was like whatever the Lord decides to do that's what it is going to be because there is no way I could make this apart from literally a divine intervention because everybody was just so amazing."
He continued saying, "I am really just super excited for people to watch it. It's different here in Center and Shelbyville because we all know each other. I feel like y'all are in this with me and its like a communal effort because y'all have watched me grow up basically, watched me when I do Poultry Festival and then now I'm doing American Idol."
Foehner said he has been working for the past two years on being a singer. "I've tried to teach myself to work my voice because my voice is really rough and kind of hard. There's a couple of people who have pointed me on my way but I kind of pride myself in teaching myself and having a more natural look at it rather than a taught look. Because people like B. B. King and Jimi Hendrix, when I would listen to their interviews growing up and they were just like we did it on our own and this is us. Its rough around the edges and that's my whole deal because nobody wants to hear something perfect. Its more real, its more realistic and people can relate to something that's not perfect, just on an emotional level. If its there emotionally, I feel like its there."
Speaking about his singing style he said, "I can't usually hit all the crazy high notes and stuff like that but I can screech and wale like a banshee, make you feel something. Because that was a cool thing about Robert Plant back in the day; he wasn't the greatest technical singer but he just, I don't know, something about the wrong notes that he hit were really fantastic and made songs like 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Dazed and Confused.'"
He spoke about all the nos he has received over the years, "Looking back it was the Lord stripping everything off of me. As musicians we have been given this gift so that we can give ourselves away in the music so they can point to Christ because he gave Himself away for everyone, all of us. So, that has been my goto thing. It used to be that I would just pray Lord let me make it through it and then He has just showed me - My way will be and rest in what I want for you."
In closing he expressed appreciation, "A huge thank you to everybody whose always bought my CDs that I've made. Just keep watching the show, I will be on and I appreciate everybody's comments and stuff on the internet. Have faith."
