May 8, 2018 - Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers investigated this afternoon a three-vehicle crash on SH 94 about one mile west of Apple Springs. The preliminary crash investigation indicates at about 2:45 p.m., a 1997 Ford passenger car was traveling east on SH 94. 

The Ford reportedly crossed over the center of the roadway and struck a 2018 Toyota passenger car that was traveling west. Moments after the initial crash the Ford was then struck by an eastbound 2002 Volvo truck-tractor semi-trailer. The truck-tractor then overturned in the roadway. 

The driver of the Ford is identified as Logan Alec, 30, from Livingston, TX. Alec was pronounced deceased at the scene by a Trinity County Justice of the Peace. The driver of the Toyota is identified as Kathryn Rogers, 58, from Apple Springs, TX. 

Rogers was transported to CHI St. Luke’s Hospital in Lufkin for treatment. The driver of the truck-tractor is identified as Alan Eddins, 29, from Center, TX. Eddins was also transported to CHI St. Luke’s Hospital in Lufkin for treatment. 

This crash remains under investigation. No additional information is available at this time. 

May 8, 2018 - Plans are underway to prepare for American Idol's trip to Shelbyville, Texas for the Home Town Visit.

American Idol visits the home town of the Top 3 contestants and Cade Foehner is less than a week away from making it into the Top 3. We are asking everyone to be ready! We want to show our support for Cade in his journey and outshine the other contestants home towns. Plans are tentative and will be announced Sunday night after the Top 3 are announced. Film crews will be here and Tuesday is the tentative date for the festivities which will include a parade and a concert among other events!

So have your #CadeFoehner #NextIdol signs ready and clear your schedule for the beginning of next week!

May 8, 2018 - Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers investigated Monday morning, May 7, 2018 a two vehicle fatality crash at the intersection of SH 21 and Loop 34.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates at approximately 7:20 a.m., a 1994 Nissan passenger car was traveling east on SH 21. A 2014 GMC SUV was traveling west on SH 21 and crossed the eastbound lane and struck the Nissan head-on. Initial reports indicate the GMC was attempting to travel onto Loop 34.

The driver of the GMC is identified as Courtney Bush, 27, from Center, TX. Bush and a three year old passenger were transported to Nacogdoches Medical Center in Nacogdoches for treatment.

The driver of the Nissan is identified as Thomas Williams III, 45, from San Augustine, TX. Williams and a thirteen year old passenger were both pronounced deceased at the scene by a Nacogdoches County Justice of the Peace.

This crash remains under investigation. No additional information is available at this time.

May 8, 2018 - The jury that has been summoned for Monday, May 14, 2018 for the 273rd District Court Honorable Charles R. Mitchell presiding has been cancelled due to the scheduled cases being resolved or passed.

Anyone receiving a summons for that day is released from jury service until they receive a future summons.

May 7, 2018 - Brittany Barber was arrested Friday, May 4, 2018 in Joaquin. Constable Pct. 3, Roy Cheatwood received information on Barber’s whereabouts and was able to locate her. Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Michael Griffin assisted in the arrest. Barber was booked into the Shelby County jail on warrants for POCS (F-3) $15,000 bond and Abandoning/Endangering a Child (SJF) $10,000 bond. Barber posted bonds and was released May 6, 2018.

May 4, 2018 - Shelby County Sheriff Willis Blackwell reports that Melony Anderson was found safe and unharmed in Batesville, MS on May 3, 2018 and three subjects were taken into custody. Elizabeth Sanford, 36, Laurel Smith, 22, and Shannon Leonard, 27, all of Center, were arrested by the Batesville Police Department (BPD) on warrants out of Shelby County for Kidnapping (F-3)

Elizabeth SanfordShelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) Investigators Carmen Fears, Chad Brown and Adam Renfro were able to ping a phone belonging to one of the subjects. The whereabouts of the subjects and Anderson was passed on to the Texas Ranger Jim Hicks who kept BPD abreast on their location.

Laurel Smith  Fears and Renfro will travel to Mississippi Monday, May 7 with Hicks to interview the subjects. They will be taken before a magistrate in Mississippi to sign extradition, after which they will be picked up by the SCSO and transported back to Center for arraignment on kidnapping charges.

May 3, 2018 - (Update May 3, 9:39pm): The Shelby County Sheriff's Department reports Anderson was located on Thursday afternoon, and she is safe. Additonal information is pending at this time.


(Update: May 3, 9:40am): Information we received indicates Anderson reportedly left Timpson High School May 2 at 3:30 p.m. in a dark colored early 2000 model Chevrolet Tahoe with a white male driver and a white female passenger. 
She is considered a runaway.


The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is seeking the whereabouts of Melony Skye Anderson. Anderson is 15 years old, 5'3" tall and weighs 130 pounds. She has blonde hair and brown eyes. 

She was last seen wearing a gray shirt with pink palm trees the word Hollister printed in pink letters on the front, camouflage jacket, jeans and sandals. 

She was last seen at Timpson ISD in the afternoon hours of May 2, 2018. Anderson may be in the Logansport area.
