January 9, 2018 - Another subject has been arrested in connection with the recent burglary that occurred December 11-12, 2017 at a property on Highway 59 North in Tenaha.
Aaron Jeffrey, 45, of Carthage, was arrested and taken into custody by the Panola County Sheriff’s Office on January 6. He is awaiting transport to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. Jeffrey is charged with burglary of a habitation
The Shelby County Sheriff’s is still seeking the whereabouts of Antoine Pierce, 33, of Marshall. Pierce is described as a 5’9” black male, and weighs approximately 200 pounds. He has brown hair and black eyes. Pierce has two active warrants for burglary of a habitation and burglary of a building.
If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of Pierce, please contact SCSO Chief Deputy Kevin Windham at (936) 572-1972 or (936) 598-5601.
If anyone is found to be hindering the apprehension, harboring or concealing, providing or aiding with any means of avoiding arrest or effecting escape, or warns Pierce of impending discovery or apprehension, will be arrested and charged in accordance to Penal Code 38.05 Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution, a Felony 3 offense.

January 9, 2018 - A Shelby County Grand Jury handed down 25 indictments involving 18 individuals on Thursday, January 4, 2018. The grand jury was impaneled for the January 2018 term of the 273rd Judicial District Court.
Nickloas Denetri Rushing was indicted for evading arrest, third degree felony. The indictment alleges, on April 28, 2017, Rushing used a vehicle to flee from Christopher Knowlton, a person the defendant knew was a peace officer who was attempting to lawfully arrest or detain Rushing.
Harold Delonn Glenn was indicted for tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, third degree felony. The indictment alleges, on November 1, 2016, during a traffic stop and/or narcotics investigation Glenn concealed drugs by discarding said drugs onto the ground, and with the intent to impair the drugs' availability as evidence in the investigation and/or in a subsequent official proceeding.
Alvin Earl Smith was indicted for burglary of a building, state jail felony. The indictment alleges, on November 24, 2016, with intent to commit theft Smith entered a building or portion of a building owned by Dr. Dixon Golden, the owner.
Jeffery Scott Fenley was indicted for evading arrest, third degree felony. The indictment alleges, on November 22, 2016, Fenley fled in a vehicle from peace officers Jim Blackwell, Chris Knowlton, Jacob Gross, and Keith Jones while they were attempting to arrest, or detain Fenley.
Bruce Edward Cohoon was indicted for burglary of a building, state jail felony. The indictment alleges, on December 4, 2016, Cohoon entered a building or a portion of a building, not then open to the public, without the consent of Patricia Annette Belrose, the owner. The indictment further alleges Cohoon attempted to commit or committed theft of a plastic bin full of misc. hand tools, water pumps, ladder, container with brass, Radio Flyer wagon, mountain bicycle, old metal antique car wheel, child's bicycle, shovels-rakes, and/or truck tire, owned by Belrose.
Timothy Paul Johnson was indicted for criminal mischief, state jail felony. The indictment alleges, on November 15, 2016, Johnson damaged or destroyed a television and a computer owned by Yvonne McCollister and poured bleach on McCollister's clothes without consent of McCollister, the owner. The indictment further alleges Johnson caused pecuniary loss of $1,500 or more but less than $20,000 to McCollister.
Barbara Jean McKelvey was indicted for burglary of a building, state jail felony. The indictment alleges, on December 13, 2016, McKelvey entered a building or a portion of a building not then open to the public, without consent of Allan Hogan, the owner, and attempted to commit or committed theft of property including a Poulan chainsaw, Honda three-wheeler, Coleman stove, Coleman light, jack stands, tools and tool box and/or assorted scrap items.
Justin Carl Haessly was indicted for burglary of a building, state jail felony. The indictment alleges, on November 7, 2016, McKelvey entered a building or a portion of a building not then open to the public, without consent of Allan Hogan, the owner, and attempted to commit or committed theft of property including a Poulan chainsaw, Honda three-wheeler, Coleman stove, Coleman light, jack stands, tools and tool box and/or assorted scrap items.
Ervin Wayne Parrie was indicted for burglary of a building, state jail felony. The indictment alleges, on November 2, 2016, Parrie entered a building or a portion of a building not then open to the public, without the consent of Hogan, the owner, and attempted to commit or committed theft of a weed eater, chainsaw, miscellaneous tools/items, welding machine and a red and white three-wheeler, owned by Hogan.
Joshua Steven Cooley was indicted for theft, state jail felony. The indictment alleges, on April 18, 2017, Cooley took a Magnum Light Tower MLT060K valued at $2,500 or more but less than $30,000, from Maximus Oilfield Service, the owner. The indictment further alleges this was done without the consent of Maximus Oilfield Service, with intent to deprive the owner of the property.
Joshua Steven Cooley was indicted for criminal mischief, state jail felony. The indictment alleges, on September 20, 2017, Cooley tampered with a meter loop (electric meter device), without the consent of Deep East Texas Electric Cooperative, Inc., the owner. The indictment further alleges, Cooley caused pecuniary loss of less than $30,000 to the said owner by tampering with the said property to divert or cause to be diverted, electricity from a public power supply, in whole or in part by placing the circuit fuse back in and wiring around the meter loop, holding it in place by zip-ties.
Danny Hayden Stone was indicted for tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, third degree felony. The indictment alleges, on November 19, 2016, while a narcotics investigation was in progress and an attempt to serve an arrest warrant was being made Stone concealed and/or destroyed a crystal-like substance found in a plastic baggy with intent to impair its availability as evidence in an investigation and/or in a subsequent proceeding.

Indictments and Information are not a conviction, and are a matter of public record. All individuals are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
Update from TxDPS - At approximately 3:50 p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) investigated a two vehicle crash on SH 87 involving a Shelbyville ISD school bus.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates a 2014 International school bus was stopped facing north on SH 87 with red lights activated and unloading students. A 2009 Pontiac passenger car traveling south on SH 87 reportedly crested a hill and attempted to stop but slid into the northbound lane and struck the front of the bus.
The driver of the bus is identified as Marla Denby, 54, from Shelbyville. The driver of the Pontiac is identified as Matthew Gamble, 16, also from Shelbyville. A passenger with Gamble was transported to a Center hospital for possible treatment.
This crash remains under investigation. No additional information is available at this time.
January 8, 2018 - State Highway 87 South was the scene of a two-vehicle bus versus passenger car incident Monday, January 8, 2017 at 3:50pm.
Just over a mile south of FM 147 a red Pontiac G8, which was traveling southbound, appeared to have crossed over into the northbound traffic lane and side skidded into the front end of a stopped Shelbyville ISD bus traveling northbound.
The Pontiac came to rest in the barrow ditch along a driveway, while the school bus remained in the northbound traffic lane.
School officials were at the location when emergency responders from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Shelby County Sheriff's Department, ACE EMS, and Shelbyville Volunteer Fire Department arrived.
The passenger in the Pontiac was transported from the scene by ACE EMS for treatment of minor injury and for observation.
Students on the bus were safely transferred from one bus to another. Some students were picked up by parents.
Injuries to anyone on the school bus were not apparent at the crash location, and were not reported at this time. Texas DPS Troopers Jonathan Stinson and Taylor Busters are currently investigating the crash. They were assisted at the scene by Troopers Jimmy Faulkner and Keith Jones.
January 5, 2018 - One suspect has been arrested following two burglaries that occurred December 11- 12, 2017 at a property on Highway 59 North in Tenaha. Two additional suspects have been identified and warrants have been issued for their arrest.
On December 11 two suspects entered a building on the property removing various tools, welding machine and a 4-wheeler. On December 12, one of the suspects returned to the property with the third suspect and forcefully entered the home. During the course of the burglary of habitation, it appeared that a chain was hooked to a large safe which was then pulled through the front door of the home causing structural damage. The suspects also took two televisions.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) released video surveillance and photographs of the suspects on their website, Facebook page and to media stations across the area. Within a few days, the Panola County Sheriff’s Office contacted the SCSO with a positive identification of one suspect. She was identified as Kiesha Allred, 36 of Henderson.
On December 14, SCSO Investigator Carmen Fears interviewed Allred at the Panola County Sheriff’s Office. Allred explained how the burglaries occurred and confessed to her involvement in the situation. At that point, Allred was served two warrants, arrested at the Panola County Sheriff’s Office and transported to the SCSO.
Allred was arraigned by Shelby County Justice of the Peace Pct. 5 Mike Crouch. She posted bonds totaling $55,000 and was released the same day.
The PCSO played a huge role in helping the SCSO with this case. PCSO recovered the majority of the stolen property from two of the suspect’s respective residences which has been returned to the property owner.
The SCSO is once again asking for help from the community. Suspects Antoine Pierce and Aaron Jeffery are wanted in connection with this case. Pierce has an active warrant for burglary of a habitation and burglary of a building. Jeffery is wanted for burglary of a building. January 5, 2018 - Shelby County Sheriff Willis Blackwell reports the arrest of Candace Harper, 24 of Center.
On November 7, 2017, Farmers State Bank contacted the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) in regards to an employee theft. SCSO Investigator Carmen Fears met with bank officials November 8 and was informed that Harper had allegedly stolen $14,142.25 during her shift on October 20.
Bank officials met with Harper on November 1 to discuss the missing funds. Bank officials told Fears that Harper wasn’t sure what happened to the missing funds but the till could have possibly been miscounted. Bank officials told Harper she was being terminated because she did not follow policy of reporting a shortage in her till before leaving. Bank officials gave Harper the opportunity to return the missing funds by November 3 without pursing any involvement with law enforcement. The money was not returned by that date.
Fears met with Harper on November 22 at the SCSO. During the course of the interview, Harper admitted to taking the money on October 20.
Warrants were issued and Harper was arrested on December 14. She posted $5,000 bond and was released the same day.

January 5, 2018 - The Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department responded to 56 emergency calls in 2017. The calls cover a wide variety of situations, ranging from assisting EMS to full blown structure fires. The breakdown is as follows:
- Motor Vehicle Accidents: 23 (5 of these involved extrication)
- Vehicle fires: 4
- Grass/ woods fires: 10
- Storm damage/ clear roads: 4
- Landing zone for helicopter: 2
- Special rescue: 1
- Structure fires: 11
Six of the calls listed were for mutual aid to neighboring departments.

January 4, 2018 - The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting accident on County Road 3373 in Joaquin on December 27, 2017.
Sheriff Willis Blackwell reports that a juvenile and a family member had been in the area hunting. After the individual finished hunting, the juvenile was attempting to unload his gun when the instrument accidentally discharged striking Francisco Gomez, 22 of Georgia, in the chest.
Gomez was pronounced deceased at 12:16 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Pct. 3 Margie Anderson.
This case was under the investigation of the SCSO and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

January 3, 2017 - Late Tuesday night around 10:30pm fire crews from Huxley, Shelbyville and Joaquin were called out to a house fire on FM 3172 just past the FM 139 split in Huxley.
When fire crews arrived flames could already be seen coming out of the attic. Fire crews quickly started battling the fire to try keeping it off a detached garage that firemen said looked to have some sort of living area in the back.
Fire crews were also able to keep the fire off of a nearby barn. Getting water to the scene proved to be a larger task as the fire department tanker trucks were having to return to the Huxley firehouse to refill.
According to firemen on scene the occupants were able to make it out; however, the husband was taken by private vehicle to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is unknown at the time.

The National Weather Service in Shreveport, LA reports a HARD FREEZE WARNING remains in effect from 10pm this evening to 10am CST Wednesday.
* EVENT...An arctic airmass will remain in place through tonight, allowing temperatures to fall into the lower and middle teens across all of the ArkLaTex.
* TIMING...Temperatures will fall into the lower and mid teens overnight, climbing above freezing by mid to late morning Wednesday.
* IMPACT...Precautions should be taken to protect pipes and provide warm shelter to people, plants, and pets through Wednesday. Prolonged exposure could lead to hypothermia and may harm pets and livestock.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Hard Freeze Warning means dangerously cold temperatures are imminent or highly likely. Prolonged exposure could be dangerous to humans, pets, and plants.
