November 27, 2023 - The SCSO is investigating the theft of a 2013 Artic Cat 700 Prowler. The side by side was taken from a hunting lease in the 8000 block of US 96 S between November 20 - November 23, 2023.

November 21, 2023 - Street improvement work contracted with Drewery Construction by the Street Improvement Corporation of the City was initiated today by a subcontractor without required advance notice to residents and City staff.
Streets obstructed due to construction activities today will be opened for normal traffic by Wednesday evening as not to interfere with regular traffic access during the Thanksgiving holiday and weekend.
November 21, 2023 - Shelby County Courthouse offices are scheduled to be open from 8am until 1pm on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, in observation of the Thanksgiving holiday..
The Shelby County Clerk’s office will be closed at 12-noon.
All offices will be closed until Monday, November 27 when they will re-open during normal scheduled hours.
November 21, 2023 - Shelby County Tax/Motor Vehicle office will be closing early for the holiday, Wednesday, November 22, at 1pm.
Our normal hours will resume Monday, Nov. 27th.

The water on N.E.W. WSC no longer requires boiling.
November 21, 2023 - On November 16, 2023, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the N.E.W. Water Supply, #2030034, to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
N.E.W. Water Supply has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes. We have also provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of November 21, 2023.

November 16, 2023 - Due to a major break in the line, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required the N.E.W. Water Supply Corporation PWS# 2030034 to notify all customers on FM 711, CR 202, CR 203, CR 205, CR 223, Harmony, Kellyville, Fountain Town and Woodland Acres Communities to boil their water prior to consumption (eg., washing hands/ face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc). Children, seniors and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions.
To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.
In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, the public water system will issue a notice to customers that rescinds the boil water notice in a manner similar to this notice.
Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received the notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

A strong thunderstorm will impact West Central Sabine Parish., East Central Nacogdoches, Eastern Shelby, Northern San Augustine And Northwestern Sabine Counties through 1pm cst.
At 12:22pm CST, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Bland Lake, or 14 miles south of Center, moving northeast at 55 mph.
Hazard: Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph and penny size hail.
Source: Radar indicated.
Impact: Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible.
Locations impacted include: Milam, San Augustine, Patroon, Shelbyville, Bland Lake, Neuville, Chireno, Huxley, Hurstown, Denning, Sexton, Calgary, Jericho, Toledo Bend Reservoir North, and Jordans Store.
Precautionary/Preparedness Actions:
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
November 20, 2023 - Tornado Watch outline update for WT 711 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 12:45pm CST Monday Nov 20 2023.
Tornado Watch 711 is in effect until 7pm CST for the following locations:
Texas counties included are: Angelina, Cherokee, Gregg, Hardin, Harrison, Houston, Jasper, Liberty, Marion, Nacogdoches, Newton, Orange, Panola, Polk, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, Smith, Trinity, Tyler, Walker.
Shelby County Commissioners heard a final update involving the Jackson Well Project, funded with American Rescue Plan Act funds (ARPA), during their October 25, 2023, meeting.
The commissioners discussed the payment for final expenses to complete the Jackson Well with the total for these items being $21,463.07. Eric Garrett with Paxton Water Supply addressed the court, ”I want to give come preliminary ‘thank you’s’ to all of you, to you Judge, to this court, to Ann [Blackwell] invaluable help,” said Garrett.
Garrett stated the tests are currently reflecting the well is producing more water than the system is already purchasing elsewhere, which will help them to provide stable water flow to current customers and is projected to cut costs monthly by $7,000 to $9,000. He said this will help them to repair current infrastructure that is in need of attention.
“You have blessed the people of our section of Shelby County and they’re going to hear about it in just a few weeks,” said Garrett.
He stated that starting November 6, Paxton Water Supply would have its own office with a phone to reach them and a secretary to take their calls. He also stated they would be able to pay their bills online on their new website.
A motion by Stevie Smith, Commissioner Precinct 3, to pay the final expenses of $21,463.07 was seconded by Roscoe McSwain, Commissioner Precinct 1, and the motion carried.
County Judge Allison Harbison presented a proposal to the commissioners for the replacement of fluorescent light fixtures with LED fixtures for all lighting located within the County Courthouse.
“I have a quote from 4C for the complete job, and we’re talking over 200 light fixtures here, of $22,693.26 for the complete job,” said Judge Harbison.
A motion by Tom Bellmyer, Commissioner Precinct 4, to take the estimate from 4C Electrical Service to replace all the lighting fixtures in the courthouse and the motion was seconded by Jimmy Lout, Commissioner Precinct 2, and the motion carried.
Clint Porterfield, County Auditor, remarked the funds were to come out of Fund 39 where there were $340,000 available Local Assistance Tribal Consistency Fund (LATCF) which was recently used to pay $43,000 for painting in the historic courthouse.
The commissioners discussed the lease agreement held for the Justice of the Peace and Constable Precinct 5 offices in Timpson. Mike Thrift, the manager of the property, wanted a new office lease.
Commissioner Bellmyer made a motion to approve the lease for a two-year term and Commissioner Smith provided a second to the motion and it carried.
The meeting adjourned at 10:17am.
Agenda items approved during the meeting include: 1. Pay weekly expenses. 2. Pay current Payroll. 3. Payment for final expenses to complete the Jackson well. Purchasing four additional sets of election equipment from ES&S with ARPA funds to support all elections in Shelby County.
November 14, 2023 - Nacogdoches Street in Center (State Highway 7) was the scene of a two-vehicle crash involving a Center Police Department vehicle and a utility truck on November 14, 2023, at 2:54pm.
Emergency personnel from multiple agencies responded to the scene to assist those involved. Center Fire Department and Shelby County Sheriff’s Department assisted with traffic control while Center Police Department officers assisted their officer and Texas Department of Public Safety State Troopers investigated the crash scene.
According to information released by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Troopers investigated a crash on state Highway 7 near Wulf Creek.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 2:54pm, a white 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Center Police Department patrol unit driven by Garrett Rocchi, 32, was traveling east in the outside lane, while a white 1998 International truck tractor driven by Kenneth Campbell, 35, of Center was traveling east in the inside lane.
It is reported that the officer conducted a U-turn in front of the truck tractor after observing a traffic violation on the westbound side and was struck on the driver side.
Officer Rocchi was transported to Nacogdoches Medical Center [Shelby Emergency Department] for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Campbell was not reported to have been injured.
According to DPS, this is an ongoing investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
Both vehicles ended up in the westbound ditch where the police vehicle traveled through a wall and the utility truck came to rest on its passenger side facing west.
November 14, 2023 - Nacogdoches Street at Wulf Creek in Center is the scene of a two-vehicle crash. Emergency personnel are currently investigating the incident and assisting those involved. Traffic is currently down to one lane of traffic. Travelers should consider an alternate route until the scene is clear.
November 16, 2023 - Mumbai, Maharashtra, Kilitch Healthcare India Limited is voluntarily recalling the eye drops products listed in the table below to the consumer level with all lots within expiry with expiration dates ranging from November, 2023 to September, 2025 for all the below mentioned products. These products are being recalled due to potential safety concerns after FDA investigators found insanitary conditions.
Risk Statement: For those patients who use these products, there is a potential risk of eye infections or related harm. These products are intended to be sterile. Ophthalmic drug products pose a potential heightened risk of harm to users because drugs applied to the eyes bypass some of the body’s natural defenses. To date, Kilitch Healthcare India Limited has not received any reports of adverse events related to this recall.
