Betty Jo Webb, 80, of Center, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 29, 2020, in Garrison.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 3, 2020, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Bro. Bobby Bressman officiating. Visitation with limited family present will begin prior to the service at Noon. Private family graveside will be at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center. The family requests social distancing be observed.
Betty was born in Hemphill, Texas, on July 19, 1940, to Carter Arnold and Connie White. She graduated from Hemphill High School in 1958. She married Robert Stephen Webb on February 9, 1963. Steve and Betty made their home in Center. They spent 50 years together until his death in 2013. Over the years, all the neighborhood kids could be found playing around the Webb’s house.
Betty started a career in banking and loved her job and customers. She worked at Farmers State Bank for 34 years until retirement. She loved the Lord and was a member of First Baptist Church of Center. Betty also served on Housing Authority Board of City of Center for over 20 years.
Betty loved her family and friends dearly. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and watching them grow. She always looked forward to a visit from her friends to catch up. She was an avid reader and loved a good book. Betty touched many lives and will be missed by everyone.

Marie Virginia Nail Humphries-Haltom, 96, of Crosby, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at her residence.
Marie was born December 7, 1923 in Center, to parents; Frank Dilliard and Ima Daisy Holt Nail, and has resided in the Crosby area since 1956. She was a graduate of Center High School, a former secretary for Crosby ISD, and held membership with Crosby United Methodist Church and Women’s Aglow Fellowship. Marie was also a licensed minister and volunteered at local nursing homes as well as Plane State Jail in Dayton. Marie also enjoyed quilting, gardening, and fellowship with others.
Mrs. Haltom was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Ima Nail, husbands: Joseph Alton Humphries and James Hubert “Red” Haltom, sons: Ronnie Humphries and Michael Humphries, stepson: Tony Haltom, and brother: Blake Nail.

Brigadier General Benard Wayne Gann, age 80, returned to his Heavenly Father on November 20, 2020. Ben was a great American patriot, husband, father, grandfather, and brother. We weep at the loss and at the same time are grateful to God that such men lived. He was a true hero.
Ben was born December 28, 1939 in Nacogdoches, Texas. He attended Center High School where he was an accomplished student and athlete. In 1962 he earned his BBA from Baylor University where he met his future wife, Genelle Amason of Corpus Christi.
In 1963, he began his Air Force career. He attended Air Command and Staff College, Air War College, and received a master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from Troy State University. He was an accomplished pilot and leader who accrued 6,000 flying hours. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam and Panama, commanded two combat bomb wings, and rose through the ranks to Brigadier General. Because of his courage and humility, he was admired and respected by those with whom he served. General Gann was awarded many commendations including the Bronze Star, the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the prestigious Defense Distinguished Service Medal.
In 1995, Ben, Genelle and their family moved to Tyler, Texas, where he became a financial advisor. He was very involved in the community and in the church he loved, Marvin United Methodist.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Genelle, their son Scott, granddaughters, Deven and Avery; son Mason, his fiancé, Doctor Angela Smith, twin grandsons, Miles and Matthew; daughter, Ashley Lowrance and husband, Jason, grandchildren, Wyatt, Everett and Catherine; his sister, Edwina Samford, nephews, Randall and Jeffrey, niece, Sherry Oliver and husband, Ben.
General Gann will be buried with military honors at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery with a private ceremony. A memorial service will be planned at a later date in Tyler, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Eternal Flame Fund at Marvin UMC, 300 West Erwin St., Tyler, Texas 75702.

Octavius Eulalee Bowers Epps passed away peacefully in the presence of family on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at Christus Good Shepherd Hospital, Longview, Texas at the age of 100 years and 8 months.
Octavius was born on March 15, 1920 in Center, Texas to John B. and Gertrude Hayden Bowers. She lived most of her life in Center, growing up on a large cotton farm just outside of town. She was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church. She graduated as Salutatorian from Center High School in 1937. That summer she moved to Houston to attend Draughon’s Business School. Her first job was in the business office of a trucking company near the Houston Ship Channel. Shortly after the trucking company closed, she moved to San Augustine where she had accepted a job at REA (Rural Electrification Administration).
While living in San Augustine, she met Calvin Maurice Epps. They were married on January 4, 1942, and soon after they moved to the Corpus Christi Naval Base during World War II. They lived in a 4-plex apartment on the base where their first daughter was born. After being honorably discharged, they moved back to Center where their first son and second daughter were born.
In her 100 years, she saw her family’s transportation change from a wagon pulled by mules to automobiles, the Great Depression, World War II, and man landing on the moon. She even vacationed in all 50 states!
Octavius was an extraordinary woman of strong character with a deep faith in and love for her Lord and Savior. She raised her children to love Jesus as well. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and she loved the outdoors, especially hunting. We thank God for blessing our lives with the gift of this extraordinary lady, who was our dear Mother, Mother-in-Law, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother, Cousin and Friend! She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Octavius was preceded in death by her parents, infant twin brother and sister, and her husband of 54 years.

Larry Reynolds passed away at his home in Center on Friday, November 27, 2020, just a few days after his 60th birthday.
A graveside service will be held at the Reynolds Cemetery in Dreka at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 4. Brother Lamar Denby, Jr. will officiate.
Larry was born on November 21, 1960 to Inez and G.B. Reynolds. He was a member of West Hamilton Missionary Baptist Church. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1979. He worked for Tyson Foods in Tenaha in the mechanic department for over 15 years which he loved. He would later miss his coworkers and his job when he had to leave the company due to Parkinson’s.
He will be remembered for his hearty laughter, his kind heart, and his love for his friends and family. He enjoyed listening to music (especially rock and roll), doing puzzles, going fishing, going to the beach, working on cars, hanging out with friends, and talking on the phone or in person to his sister, Paula.

Cleo Pratt Hines of San Augustine, Texas, passed from this life on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at his residence.
He was born in Pineland, Texas, on December 22, 1930, along with his twin brother, Clint, to Nathan Pratt and Alamay Hines. Cleo graduated from Pineland High School in 1948 and attended Sam Houston State University until entering the Air Force in 1951. He proudly served his country as a Flight Engineer on C-130 military transport aircraft during the Korean Conflict. Following the war, he and his brother returned to college and graduated with B.S. Degrees in 1956.
In his early working career, Cleo was employed by Temple Industries and served in several capacities including general manager of its retail lumber operation in Pineland. He later worked in the oil and gas industry as a pipeline inspector for various engineering firms. In 1992, he obtained his license as a nursing home administrator and served as the first administrator of Hines Health Care when the Clint L. Hines family opened its new skilled nursing facility in San Augustine (now Colonial Pines Nursing and Rehab).
Cleo was a special father to a special son and devoted his life to ensuring that Jason was happy, loved and that he unlimited opportunities to experience his life to its fullest. Cleo’s motto was always “LIVE WELL – LAUGH OFTEN – LOVE MUCH” and this is the type of life he lived. One of his greatest pleasures was having family and friends visit in his home while enjoying good food, fellowship and fun, or just sitting on the front porch to “spit and whittle.” His good humor and one-line jokes will be missed by all who knew him.

Charles “Donald” Cravey, 86, of Port Neches, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2020 in Spring, TX.
Born February 15, 1934 in Center, he was the son of the late Robert and Erma Cravey. After serving in the United States Navy, he went to work for Texaco in Port Arthur in the Accounting Department. After more than 30 years with Texaco, he served as the Business Manager for Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School in Beaumont. He was an active member of First Baptist Church Port Neches for 44 years.

David Ray Gutermuth, 73, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2020 in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born on February 3, 1947 in Fort Worth, Texas, to the late Aylette Gutermuth and Marta Louise (Gartrell) Gutermuth. Funeral service will be at 11am on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Laird Funeral Home, 2116 South St., Nacogdoches, Texas, 75964.

David lived a cheerful life as a humble and faithful servant. His love for his wife and family was evident to all who knew him. He enjoyed a good joke and harassing grandkids on who was better looking. He made sure everyone knew there was no better fisherman alive. The fish feared him…… in his own mind! David never missed an opportunity to share his love of Jesus. He led many strangers to Christ. There is no doubt he is by his side now.

Elmer Lee Edgmon, 87 passed away on November 11, 2020 in Nacogdoches, Tx. Mr. Edgmon was born on May 5, 1933 to the late Earl and Iva (Robinson) Edgmon.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Elmer was born in Comanche County, Oklahoma. He graduated from Walters High School with many athletic accomplishments and attended Southwestern University on a football scholarship. Covered in dirt after working in the fields he noticed a young girl living across the street and asked her to get a coke. Frances Verlene Park said yes, and they married October 19, 1952 and spent 68 years together. He joined the Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War in the Guided Missile Unit as a Forward Observer. They raised two children and made Garrison their home in 1969.
Elmer loved his family and friends and spending time with them. He never met a stranger and always had a story to tell. Some of his favorite times and ours were spent together at the deer lease. He enjoyed all sporting events, especially watching his great-grandson. Elmer believed in bowing your head, removing your hat, and standing for the Pledge of Allegiance. We never missed driving by a Braums without getting a strawberry malt – “Make it thick”. He truly enjoyed his early morning routine of making the rounds at Garrison Hardware and the Happy Cow. He lived a rich life which included giving the SFA Ladyjack basketball team a place to call home, cooking meals for the Garrison Booster Club, hunting trips in Colorado, and jobs that allowed him to ‘talk’ to people. He loved the Lord and was a member of First Baptist Church. He was always available to drive the church van when needed. He enjoyed life, there never was a dull moment when he was around and extremely quiet when he wasn’t. He touched many lives, and it is evident by the phone calls and messages we have received.

Harry Lee Murdock, 81, of Center Tx was born Febuary 23rd 1939 in Silver City, New Mexico to Charles Harry Murdock and Hazel Murdock. Harry passed away November 14th, 2020.
Visitation will be Tuesday November 17th at 1:00PM – 2:00PM at Mangum Funeral Home Center Tx. Funeral Service will be Tuesay November 17th at 2:00PM at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel Center Tx.
Harry served in the army and loved playing golf. He was a member of the Tenaha and Joaquin Masonic Lodge. Harry was also the owner of Harry Smoke House for several years, he always enjoyed BBQing. Most of all Harry loved spending time with family and friends.

Jack Bruce Brittain, 66, of Ft. Worth, passed away Friday, November 13, 2020, in Ft. Worth.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at Watson & Sons Chapel. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.
Born August 1, 1954, in Houston, Jack is the son of the late John Franklin Brittain Sr. and Ethel Mae Langston Brittain. He was an avid gun enthusiast and also enjoyed working on electronics and motorcycles. Jack was a member of Revival Tabernacle.
