Nacogdoches, SFA Coliseum on Tuesday March 3, 2020 –

The Tenaha Tigers varsity basketball team won a UIL Region III Quarterfinal game over the San Augustine Wolves by a 61-40 score.

The game was close early and Tenaha led by a single point, at 13-12, at the end of the first stanza. The Tigers outscored the Wolves 16-4 points during the second quarter and this gave THS a 29-16 lead at the midway break. Tenaha built on their lead in the third period and led 42-25 going into the fourth quarter.

The Tigers were led by Mike Hogg with 23 points, Erik Smith was also in double figures with 14.

San Augustine was led by Jayden Hicks with 12 points.

The Tigers are 23-9 and will next face the Grapeland Sandies in a Region III Semifinal at Bryan High School on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 6 p.m.

The Sandies beat Rosebud-Lott 75-62 to get to this point.

March 4, 2020 - On February 22, 2020 students at Self Defense America were invited to the Taekwondo rank testing. They are required to do techniques in striking, kicking, blocking, self defense, terminology and endurance. Each belt level has new techniques to learn and perfect the lower ranking techniques. Students worked hard and were promoted.

Students ages 9-99,  who tested were Hunter Gibson, Austyn Mahan, Kianna Moore, Jack Pham, Keven Maldando, Rain Smith, and Victoria Green.

Lil Dragons are the students in the white and purple uniforms their ages are 4-8 years old. Students who tested were Manson Sanchez, Ryan Moody (in splits) and Evelynn Lindley. We are proud of their hard work.

The Shelbyville Dragons varsity basketball team defeated the Gary Bobcats 89-59, on Tuesday, during a Region III UIL Playoff. The game was played at Stephen F Austin University.

The Dragons grabbed an early 9-2 lead in the first quarter and never looked back as they consistently built on their lead throughout the contest.

Shelbyville used 15 points from Jay Buckley and three 3-points from Jordan Boykins to amass a 30-13 advantage by the end of the first quarter. By halftime SHS had taken a 55-27 lead.

The third period ended with the Dragons holding a 31-point lead at 75-44. Coach David Schmitt was able to empty the bench during the final quarter as the Dragons cruised to the thirty-point win.

Shelbyville was led by Jay Buckley with 34 points, Jordan Boykins had 21 points, LD Coleman 10 and Kolby Parker 9.

The Dragons have a 34-3 record and will face the Crawford Pirates at Bryan High School next Friday, March 6, 2020 at 8 p.m. in The Texas Region III Semifinals. Crawford defeated Slocum High 42-36.

March 3, 2020 - The richest youth shoot in the world was held at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio February 13-16. Over 1,000 4H and FFA members from across Texas came to participate in modified trap, sporting clays and super sporting events. Along with the shooting competitions there were educational sessions for parents and students.

Shelby County 4H shooters had five members competing including Colton Gutermuth, Dawson McFaddin, Lance Holloway, Rex Payne and Megan Gutermuth.


Colton Gutermuth places 5th in Modified Trap

On Thursday evening Colton Gutermuth placed 5th in modified trap. He won a gun, belt buckles and several cases on shells.

On the final evening it was exciting as Rex Payne was selected to shoot under the lights and in front of a packed stadium for a chance at a Zoli shotgun. Congratulations to all these 4H members.

March 3, 2020 - Shelby County 4H Juniors - Jacie Lee, Camille Greer, Carter Greer, and Hannah Wages attended Livestock Judging contests in San Antonio. They also attended the East Central FFA contest, as well as the San Antonio Livestock Exposition.

At the East Central FFA Contest, Carter Greer placed 56th overall out of 172 Juniors. This was only his second contest to compete in since beginning Livestock Judging. The youth competed as a Team at San Antonio Livestock Exposition, placing 27th out of 109 Junior 4H teams. Hannah Wages landed 35th with a large group of 344 juniors judging the contest.

The Shelby County 4H Livestock Judging teams are looking forward to contests in Houston, Austin, and the District contest in College Station later this spring.

March 2, 2020 - The Shelbyville Lady Dragon softball game is cancelled for March 3 at Chireno due to the boys playoff game scheduled same day at 6pm in Nacogdoches in the Johnson Coliseum on SFA Campus.

 

March 2, 2020 - The Dragons Regional Quarterfinal playoff game will be Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 6pm in the Johnson Coliseum on SFA Campus versus Gary. The Dragons are the visitor. District Passes and Coaches Passes accepted. Adult admission is $6 and student admission is $4.

March 2, 2020 - The Tenaha Tigers Track and Field season will begin in Groveton with the Groveton Relays on March 5 in Groveton. 

Junior High athletes are scheduled to compete on March 6, also in Groveton.

Bryan High School on Friday, February 28, 2020 –

The Timpson Lady Bears varsity basketball team travelled to Bryan High School on Friday for a Texas UIL Region III elimination game with the Grapeland Sandies. Grapeland came out of the gate fast and led 20-7 by the end of the first quarter of play. The Timpson defense tightened in the second period and the Lady Bears were able to outscore Grapeland 7-5. The Sandies took a 25-14 lead into the locker room at the halftime intermission.

Grapeland built a bigger lead in the third quarter by outpacing Timpson 17-8 points. This gave GHS a 42-22 lead going into the final frame.

Timpson cut Grapeland’s lead even more during the fourth stanza. Brylee Behrens and Laiton Braddock hit three 3-pointers and teamed up for a combined 11 third-quarter points. This helped cut the Grapeland lead to just seventeen points, at 59-42, by game’s end.

Grapeland was led by Keaundria Harris with 15 points. Grapeland goes on to face Woden Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Bryan High School at 6 p.m. The Lady Sandies stand at 33-5 overall for the season.

Timpson finished their season with a 30-7 season record. They were led by Brylee Behrens with 13 points. Laiton Braddock had 10, Jaycee Campbell 8, Harlie Ware 7, and Claire Johnson scored 4 points.

February 27, 2020 - The Shelbyville Dragons are Bi-District Champs! They will play Friday, February 28 at Hudson High School in Lufkin TX at 8pm vs Broaddus in the Area Playoff round. The Dragons will be visitors. District and Coaches passes will be accepted.
