Joaquin Rams Gymnasium. February 14, 2020 –

The Joaquin Rams varsity basketball team won their final home game, by an 40-27 score, over the Martinsville Pirates on Friday. The Rams blew open a game that saw them lead only 25-21 at halftime by holding the Pirates scoreless in the third quarter while JHS went on a 12-0 run.

The third period saw Joaquin lead 35-21 and a Lorenzo Boogie Lane bucket at the start of the final stanza gave JHS a 37-21 advantage before MHS scored their first points of the second half.

Martinsville was able to outpace the Rams in the final period by a narrow 6-5 margin but this proved to be too-little-too-late.

The Rams were led by Lorenzo Lane with 13 points. The win boosted the Rams season record to 4-16.

The Rams will travel to Timpson for their final road game at Bear’s Gymnasium next Tuesday, February 18, 2020. Junior varsity will begin at 5 p.m. with varsity boy’s action to follow.

February 14, 2020 - Center ISD announces all events have been cancelled for tomorrow, February 15th due to field conditions.

February 13, 2020 - Tenaha Basketball games for Friday, February 14th are the JVB/VB will play in Garrison at 6pm and the VG will play in Timpson at 6pm.

On Tuesday the visiting Tenaha Lady Tigers Varsity Basketball Team trailed the Shelbyville Lady Dragons who led them 10-8 at the end of the first quarter. Shelbyville struggled with THS early, but fought their way to a three-point lead at the halftime buzzer, with an 24-21 advantage.

The third period saw Shelbyville extend their lead to 32-27 over Tenaha. The Lady Dragons held a 40-37 lead near the middle of the fourth period, and they went on a 10-0 point run in the late stages. This helped SHS take a 50-39 District 22 2A win. Timpson and Woden are the first and second seeds for the conference.

This was the final scheduled district contest and Shelbyville finished as the third seed with a 10-4 record for the conference, Tenaha and San Augustine are tied with identical 7-7 district marks and will need a tie-breaker game to be played on Friday to decide the District 22 fourth seed representative. Details will be made available at a later date.

Jonisha Thompson was the top scorer for Tenaha with 21 points. Brooke Elliott led Shelbyville with 21 points. Lady Dragon Kiana Bennett had 15 points.

The Dragons later defeated the Tigers 62-58 in boy’s action. The earlier meeting had led to an overtime win for the Dragons. This game was very close for much of the contest. The Dragons trailed 17-19 at the end of the first stanza but by halftime had gained a narrow 32-28 advantage.

The Tigers mounted a comeback in the third period and led 43-42 going into the final period. Shelbyville outscored Tenaha 20-15 in the fourth quarter to take the win with a 62-58 final score.

The Tigers were led by Hayden Jenkins with 19 points, teammate Mike Hogg chipped in 16. High scorer for Shelbyville was Jay Buckley with 30 points, LD Coleman scored 15 and Jordan Boykins 10.

The win was coach David Schmitt’s 600th win. This game gave the Dragons the best conference record at 11-1. Tenaha is currently at 8-4 with two conference games left.

The Tigers will travel to Garrison on Friday, February 14, 2020 where junior varsity boy’s action will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity boys play will follow.

The Shelbyville Dragons will host the San Augustine Wolves next Friday with junior varsity beginning at 5:30 p.m. and varsity action tipping off afterward, about 8 p.m.

February 10, 2020 - Tenaha basketball teams will play Tuesday, February 11th in Shelbyville with games starting at 5pm. Only three games - JVB/VB/VG.

February 10, 2020 - The Tenaha Girls Soccer game versus Carlisle in Price at 5pm has been cancelled.

February 10, 2020 - The SCBA will hold the first pre-tournament meeting of the 2020 season Tuesday, February 11th at the First Baptist Church Fellowship hall in Center at 7pm. Anyone interested in joining the club is invited to attend. The first event is scheduled for February 15-16th at San Augustine Park on Lake Sam Rayburn.

Friday saw the Tenaha Tigers Varsity Boys Basketball Team fall to the San Augustine Wolves by a 62-61 score. Earlier in the evening the Lady Tigers fell to the Lady Wolves by a 48-47 score.

The Lady Tigers took an early lead and held a 12-7 advantage over the Lady Wolves at the end of the opening frame. Tenaha held on to a 20-17 lead at the halftime buzzer.

The third quarter saw the Lady Tigers ahead 30-28 going into the final period. The Lady Wolves were able to outscore THS by a 20-17 margin to take the win by a single point.

Tenaha was led by Jonisha Thompson with 19 points, Addy Duncan added 12 points to the Tenaha tally. San Augustine was led by Jatoriya Barnes with 12 points and Lauryn Burrell with 11.

Tenaha is now 20-10 overall and 7-6 in District 22 2A conference action.

The boys varsity game saw the Wolves leading 17-14 at the end of the first stanza. The halftime buzzer saw the two teams go into the locker room with San Augustine holding a thin 32-31 advantage.

SAHS gained a 49-44 cushion by the end of the third quarter. The Tigers gained ground in the final frame but a 3-point buzzer-beater by senior Tijay Thomas-Davis clenched the game for a 62-61 win.

Tenaha was led by Mike Hogg with 19 points. Hayden Jenkins had 14 points and CJ Mays added 11 points to the scoreboard for THS. San Augustine was led by Larry Clifton with 17 points, Jeremiah Watts had 13, and Tijay Thomas-Davis finished the day with 10 points.

The Tigers are 20-7 overall and 7-2 in District 22 2A standings.

Tenaha next heads to Shelbyville on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 and Junior Varsity will tip off at 4:30 p.m. Varsity action will follow.

February 7, 2020 Update - Atention! Attention! Last and final late signup for Joaquin Youth Sports Baseball/Softball is 3-4 pm on Sunday, February 9th at Word of Faith Church. This will be the last signup.
