Center Roughriders Stadium on Friday, October 22, 2021 –

Early Madisonville Mustang turnovers kept the Center Roughriders competitive during Friday’s District 10 4A-2 varsity football game. A 20-yard touchdown pass from Emonte Cross to Brayden Britt helped give Center an early 6-0 advantage. Carlos Hernandez added an extra point kick and CHS took a 7-0 lead with just 1:33 left in the first quarter.

The second quarter saw CHS take a 13-0 lead when Jamarion Evans scored on a 10-yard touchdown run at the start of the second stanza but the Mustangs got a break when Lorenzo Johnson took a blocked extra point kick attempt the distance for 2 points which cut the ‘Rider’s lead to 13-2.

With 8:35 left in the second period, Blessing Ngene scored on an 11-yard touchdown run which cut the Center lead to 13-10 after a sucessful 2-point conversion.

Madisonville gained their first lead at 17-13 when Ngene scored on another touchdown run from 14 yards out with 3:07 left in the second quarter.

Center took a 20-17 lead, with 19 seconds left in the first half, when Timothy Davis raced into the endzone from 2 yards out, and Hernandez added another extra point kick.

The second half saw Center pin the Mustangs deep in their own territory at the 2-yard line. MHS drove 98 yards for a score and took a 24-20 advantage. They would never trail again in this game as they outpaced Center 28-20 during the remainder of the contest.

The Roughriders now stand at 1-7 overall and they are at 1-2 in District 10 conference action with two games remaining. They will host the Jasper Bulldogs next Friday, October 29, 2021 at Roughriders Stadium. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

October 20, 2021 - The Dragons cinched their place in the 2A Region III District 20 playoffs for the first time in the schools volleyball history. The Lady Dragons are 6-2 in district and are currently vying to tie Timpson for 2nd place in the league. The teams overall record this season is 23-12.

On Tuesday, October 19th, the Lady Dragons volleyball team played San Augustine in their second match up against the Wolves and won in three sets. The set scores were 25-15, 26-24, and 25-23.

The Dragons will next travel to Timpson on Friday, October 22nd for a 4:30pm game time. Then their last game before playoffs will be against #1 ranked Beckville on Tuesday, October 26 at home.

Last week saw all four of the Shelby County varsity football teams who played win their games.

The Center Roughriders gained their first win of this season as they beat the Shepherd Pirates for a 60-44 road win. CHS now stands at 1-6 overall and their District 10 4A-2 mark is at 1-1. This week Center will host Madisonville on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. in Roughriders Stadium. The Mustangs are 3-4 overall and they too have a 1-1 District 10 mark. Last week they lost at home to Rusk by a 31-28 score.

The Joaquin Rams enjoyed a bye week last Friday. They are 4-2 this season overall and they have a 1-0 District 10 2A-1 record. This week they will host the Shelbyville Dragons who defeated the visiting Garrison Bulldogs by a 32-26 score. The Dragons are 5-2 this season and their District 10 mark stands at 1-0 also. Kickoff at Rams Stadium is at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2021.

The Tenaha Tigers raised their District 11 2A-2 record to 4-0 with a 31-0 conference win at home over the Mount Enterprise Wildcats last Friday. Tenaha is 6-2 overall. They will travel to Cushing for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Bearkats Stadium on Friday, October 22. Cushing is 4-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Last Friday they won at Overton by a 42-6 score.

Timpson will enjoy a bye this week after beating the San Augustine Wolves by a 61-5 score last Friday. The Bears are 6-0 this year and they stand at 2-0 in District 10 2A-1 action. They will travel to Joaquin in two weeks.

October 19, 2021 - (Album) - The Center Rider Tennis Team defeated Lake Belton 10-7 in the Regional Quarterfinal tournament October 18, 2021.

In addition, this was officially the first day back for Coach Leon Dykes since his recent extended time in the hospital.

The Riders will now be traveling Thursday, October 21, 2021, to compete in the Regional Semi-finals at Texas A&M Consolidated High School.

October 19, 2021 - The Shelbyville Lady Dragon Volleyball team is currently 5-2 in District play and has an overall record of 22-12 for the season. In October the Lady Dragons have had three wins and two losses.

The Dragons traveled to San Augustine and defeated the wolves in three strong sets on October 1. In the first set Dragons won 25 to 18, second set 25 to 20, and ended the match up in the third set 25-10.

On Tuesday, October 5th, the Dragons welcomed the Bears to play at home. Timpson defeated Shelbyville in four sets for the Dragons first loss in District play. Timpson won the first set in a close matchup 25-27. The Dragons came back to win the second set 25-23. The Dragons couldn't rally another win in the second and third set losing both 25-21.

On Tuesday, October 12th, Shelbyville traveled to Gary and won in three sets. In the first set the Dragons won 25-17, the second set was 25-15, and the final set also went to the Dragons 25-16.

On Friday, October 15th, Shelbyville played Garrison at home and won in four sets. In the first set, the Lady Dragons won 25-15. The Lady Bulldogs came back in the second set to win 17-25. But the Dragons came back strong shutting down the Bulldogs in the third and forth set, 25-13 and 25-12.

The Shelbyville Dragons varsity football team opened District 10 2A-1 play with a 32-26 home win on Friday over the Garrison Bulldogs. The win gives SHS a 5-2 overall season record.

Garrison got on the scoreboard first then Shelbyville tied the game at 6-6 when junior Zay Cartwright scored on a 97-yard reception from senior Jakory Standley with 7:28 left in the first period.

Garrison regained an advantage with 3:24 still left in the opening frame when Ja’Christopher Shepherd scored on a 5-yard touchdown and Jasper Shaw booted through an extra point kick. This gave GHS a 13-6 lead.

Standley pulled Shelbyville to within one point on an 8-yard keeper run for a score with 3:16 left in the second stanza. After a failed extra point conversion, the GHS lead stood at 13-12.

Garrison wasted no time extending their advantage as Shepherd raced 42-yards on a weaving touchdown run which gave GHS a 20-12 lead with 2:23 left until halftime.

Cartwright and Harlen West scored touchdowns in the third quarter and this gave the Dragons a 24-20 lead going into the final period.

Garrison retook the lead at 26-24 less than a minute into the final frame when Brayden Davidson burst into the endzone for a touchdown on a quarterback keeper run.

Shelbyville drove 75 yards on a drive which saw Standley score on a 1-yard keeper with 4:28 left in the contest. A 2-point conversion gave SHS a 32-26 lead which they held onto until the final buzzer.

The Dragons will travel to Joaquin next Friday, October 22, 2021 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Rams Stadium.

The Rams are 4-2 and they are 1-0 in conference action.
