March 20, 2018 - The Piney Woods Photographic Society held their regular monthly meeting this past Saturday, March 17, 2018. There was a great workshop/class held on "photographing reflections," presented by member Jan Carter in preparation for the next meeting to be held in April. There was an outstanding group of people attending this workshop. The March Challenge featured 29 photos about "Pets" submitted by members for voting and a critique session. There was a lot of imagination and work put into these photographs. Congratulations to everyone who submitted a Challenge. Everyone did a winning job. The winners are as follows:

The PWPS meets the 3rd Saturday of each month at the First United Methodist Church on Porter St. in Center, TX from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Anyone interested in learning about how to take better pictures or something about a camera, is welcome to sit in on our meetings and give us a try. Membership fees are $35.00 @person and only $10.00 per each additional family member.
With springtime just around the corner, wildflowers are on every ones mind and there are workshops, fields trips, etc., coming up for 2018. March 20, 2018 - Mrs. Keli Chandler’s first grade class at Excelsior School enjoyed a visit from Newbern Masonic Lodge where members talked to them about tooth care and gave each student a toothbrush. Thank you Newbern Masonic Lodge for visiting Excelsior!


March 19, 2018 - The Golden Harvest Ministries Club met Monday, March 19, 2018 in the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church in Center, Texas at 11:30 AM. Center ISD Superintendent James Hockenberry and Matthew Mettauer discussed the next School Board Bond Election with information on the proposed projects for Proposition A & B. Proposition A will not require a tax rate increase, but is critical for academic campus improvements that will allow for grade level realignments, safety and security upgrades, and infrastructure improvements. Proposition B will be used for extracurricular band, agriculture, and athletic improvements. This Proposition consists of 10 million dollars.

March 17, 2018 - Lone Star Dutch Oven Society hosted their monthly cookout and the Boy Scouts of America Troop 119 joined this months cooking event. The scouts prepared corn bread, apple cobbler, cowboy peas, and peach cobbler. There was an great turnout and all the food was amazing!
The Toledo Bend Chapter of the Lone Star Dutch Oven Society will be cooking every 3rd Saturday at Boles Field outside of Shelbyville, Texas.
The public is invited to eat and learn about the art of dutch oven cooking and if up to the challenge become a member. Cooking starts around 9am and pots are on the table at 12-noon. Bring your lawn chairs and join us. Next meeting is Saturday, April 21st.

March 14, 2018 - I want to thank each and everyone of you who voted for and supported me during the primary election. Due to your vote I am now in the Primary Runoff Election which is May 22, 2018. I encourage everyone to get out and vote because every vote matters in our local elections.

March 14, 2018 - The Shelby County Cruisers car club elected officers and appointed committee chairs Tuesday, March 13. Pictured above (from left), Treva Rhodes was appointed scholarship committee chairman; George Horton was reelected to another term as vice president; Bennette Horton was elected secretary, Cindy Durham was elected treasurer and appointed to another term as communications chairman; Leon Aldridge was reelected to another term as president; and Jacquelyn Fountain was reappointed as “sunshine" committee chairman and also will serve as merchandising committee chairman.
The Shelby County Cruisers is beginning its seventh year with a membership of about 60. The club’s business meeting is the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at TR’s Steaks and More in Center. The third Tuesday night of each month, they conduct a social gathering “cruise” at the Sonic in Center. Visitors are always welcome.
The Cruiser’s third annual “Spring Fling” car show is set for Saturday, April 21 from 10am to 2pm at the Ivan Smith Furniture parking lot in Center.
