January 10, 2024 - The Center Woman’s Reading Club met December 7 with 11 members and 2 associate members present. As part of the business meeting Hope Jordan was welcomed as a new member of the club.

Following the business meeting, President Alease Copelin said that the club members were great supporters of literacy evidenced by their donations to the Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library and support of organizations such as Blue Santa and FL Moffett‘s Cookies and Cocoa. Reading Club members brought a great number of books to the meeting to donate to these two important organizations to promote literacy for students.

Every child who attended the event will get to choose a book to take home to promote reading in school as well as home.

This important program not only provides Christmas gifts to families but also gives each child at least one book as part of their gifts. The program is supported through the generous donations of individuals, clubs and organizations. Their hope is that each child can have a least one book to read at home.

It was her wish that students with disabilities have the opportunity to present a gift to their parents on Christmas morning. Mrs. Bussey funded this endeavor personally as she served the students of the district.

Center ISD sincerely appreciates the thoughtfulness and generosity of the First Methodist Church and local community members for providing this opportunity to the families of Shelby County students.
