June 20, 2022 - The Piney Woods Photographic Society held their June meeting this past Saturday at the FUMC in Center, Texas. There was an continuing lesson on post processing your photographs and also a workshop on photographing beautiful or unique reflections. Each month's workshop is a lesson on how to photograph next month's challenge. If either of these catch your interest, please feel free to attend our next meeting, the third Saturday in July. Visitors are alway welcome to attend.

PWPS is for camera enthusiasts of all skills and interests. Our goal is to help you become a better photographer and give you a place to meet others who share your passion for photography. Featuring programs and activities with information and instruction for all skill levels in an environment of support and cooperation.

The June challenge featured photographs showing "Motion Blur." Club members submitted 3 photographs using tips and techniques they learned from the previous month's workshop, for voting and discussions of how to better their photographic skills. June 20, 2022 - Congratulations to the 2022 Miss Frontier Days Queen Haylee Eaves and 2022 Miss Frontier Days Duchess Catherine Searcy.

Paul Smith, who is the Timpson Area Chamber of Commerce President, expressed appreciation, “These two young ladies stepped up to help carry on a long lasting tradition that has been dormant for 13 years. I believe these two young ladies will represent Timpson with grace, hometown pride, and honor. They are very intelligent and confident young women and it was a pleasure being able to spend the morning with them.”

A huge from the chamber ‘Thanks’ goes out to all who helped and donated gifts for these two young ladies.

June 16, 2022 – Citizens Bank is honored to announce the promotion of long-time employee Sharon Ratcliff to Vice President.

Ratcliff has spent over 38 years in the banking. She began her career First National Bank in Center, Texas where she was a dedicated employee for over four years. In 1988, Citizens Bank acquired First National Bank and Ratcliff became part of the Citizens Bank team. During her time in banking, she has served in various areas of operation including, Drive-Thru Teller, Loan Department Teller, Loan Assistant, New Accounts, and Banking Center Manager. 

Ratcliff is a graduate of Panola College and Stratford University with a major in Business. Through the years she has continued her banking education by attending trainings and seminars.

She is also an active member of her community, serving on several boards and committees including the President of the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, Shelby County Children Advocacy Board, Business and Professional Women, Center Emergency Planning, and a volunteer for the Center ISD Reading Program, just to name a few. She is currently serving on the board for Hope Community Medicine, the Shelby County Historical Society, and the Tri-County Community Action.

Ratcliff and her husband are active members of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where she has served on the finance committee for several years. Together they have three children, Michael, Brandon (Teresa), and SeKourtney. She enjoys spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren, SeKeydric, Victoria, MarKovan, Karsyn, and Jeremiah.

June 15, 2022 - VFW Post 8904 and Auxiliary celebrated Flag Day June 14, 2022, at the Senior Nutrition Site in Center.

Larry Hume, Post Quartermaster, led the program and Richard Lundie performed the ceremony of hoisting the flag.

Hume shared Flag Day is celebrated on June 14 every year and the inception of the United States Army is also recognized. This year it celebrates its 247th birthday.

Flag Day was officially established by Presidential Proclamation in 1916 by President Woodrow Wilson.

Following the raising of the flags, the Pledge of Allegiance was then recited by all present.

Hume reminded everyone the current flag pole, which was donated by the Post and Auxiliary with a dedication, was placed in memory of Pam White.

White was the executive director of Shelby County Outreach Ministries, of which the Senior Nutrition Site operates under the umbrella. She held the position from 1995 until her passing in 2014.

June 14, 2022 - Vanessa Renteria-Lopez received her SSP - Specialist, School Psychology degree during the 2022 Spring semester at Sam Houston State University.

Vanessa is a 2015 Center High School honors graduate. In 2016 she was inducted into the Phi Beta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society while attending Panola College. At Stephen F. Austin State University she was named on the Dean's List multiple times before graduating with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.

June 14, 2022 - The Center Noon Lions Club would like to thank the many businesses that donated to make the Center Noon Lions Club Chicken Dinner Fundraiser a great success.

Endless Possibilites Catering, H & S Discount Food, Tyson Foods, INC., Wal-Mart Supercenter, and Whataburger No. 964 each contributed generously.

In addition KDET-AM Radio, Shelby County Today, and The Light and Champion helped get the word out to the community.

Thank you to the Center Fire Department for use of their fire pits to cook the chicken as well as the building to stage the lunches and the John D. Windham Civic Center for use of the kitchen.

Having businesses that support Lions truly helps make Center, Texas such a great place to live and raise a family.

Center Noon Lions will continue to use the funds raised wisely and efficiently to help those in need. Over one million dollars have been raised by the Center Noon Lions Club thanks to the help from local businesses.

Again, a heartfelt "THANK YOU" from the Center Noon Lions Club.

June 13, 2022 - Brittany Hicks and Milagros Luna, both from Joaquin, Texas, were among students named to the Spring 2022 Dean's List at LeTourneau University. The Dean's List recognizes students who have achieved a grade point average between 3.50 and 3.99 for the semester.

Brittney Hicks is pursuing a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies degree and Milagros Luna has achieved a Bachelor of Business Management degree.

June 13, 2022 —  LeTourneau University held spring 2022 commencement services recently for around 200 graduates who received bachelor's and master's degrees. Among them was Milagros Luna, a 2017 Graduate of Joaquin High School, who graduated with a Bachelor of Business Management degree.
