July 8, 2016 - The President of the United States has issued a proclamation ordering the flag of the United States to be displayed at half-staff from now until sunset on July 12, 2016. Remember to lower all flags that are being flown with the US Flag as no flag should be higher. Flags that cannot be lowered can have a black cord or ribbon tied to the top of the staff to show respect.
June 13, 2016 - The President of the United States has issued a proclamation ordering the flag of the United States to be displayed at half-staff from now until sunset on Thursday, June 16, 2016 as a mark of respect for the victims of the act of hatred and terror perpetrated on Sunday, June 12, 2016, in Orlando, Florida.
June 10, 2016 - Mrs. Lynn Silvey was selected as Teacher of the Year by Shelby County Memorial VFW Post 8904 and was also the VFW District 19 first place winner.
June 3, 2016 - On June 6, 1944, 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. General Dwight D. Eisenhower called the operation a crusade in which “we will accept nothing less than full victory.” More than 5,000 Ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by day’s end on June 6, the Allies gained a foot- hold in Normandy.
May 12, 2016 - Shelby County Memorial VFW Post 8904 & the Auxiliary will hold their annual Memorial Day Program on Monday, May 30th, 2016 at 11 am in Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church, 211 Porter Street, Center, Texas.
Names of all Shelby County Veterans killed in action from the Civil War to today’s War on Terror will be read. The memorial wreath will be decorated by those in attendance as the names are read.
May 23, 2016 - Shelby County Memorial VFW Post 8904 Commander Gene Hutto recently received from State Commander Dan West a replica WW II 1943 M1 Garand Bayonet in recognition of the post reaching 100% plus 1 in membership for the year 2015-16. The award was presented at the VFW District 19 meeting in Nacogdoches on April 30th.
May 18, 2016 - Cassey Fowler who is the Library Assistant at the Fannie Brown Booth Library here in Center has set up a couple of Memorial Day displays for kids and adults. She is continuously adding items so if you have something to share contact her.
May 18, 2016 - Past District 19 Commander Gailon Fletcher of Nacogdoches VFW Post 3893 installed the officers of Shelby County Memorial VFW Post 8904 at the post meeting on Monday, May 16th, 2016.
May 17, 2016 - At their monthly meeting on Monday, May 16th the Auxiliary to Shelby County Memorial VFW Post 8904 installed their new officers for the coming year July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2017.
